Thanks for sharing! I live in Taipei, there's only one black swan here from what I know, I've been friends with her for 2 years. I've been told that her husband disappeared without reason nearly a decade ago, so I do my best to keep her company, and in the meantime, I've researched plenty about their customs and habits. But hey, your video taught me plenty that I didn't know about them, so props to you there! One thing I'd like to add though, is that for my friend at least, her calls are certainly not the "swan song" in the traditional sense, ie her last call. She calls all the time, as if she understands everything I'm telling her and she's talking with me, she even expresses her displeasure that I'm leaving too soon. I really to hope to visit Western Australia someday, to see black swans in the natural habitat. I hope they can understand me when I see them, and that my swans calls are accurate enough.
I also have a single black swan lady friend close to my apartment on the North Shore in New Zealand and her call is the same as you describe when she sees me to feed her Lucky Duck seeds and being sad if I leave too soon. She has no white feathers, just like skinny white bones, so I presume she cannot fly. Love her to bits and visit as often as I can❤
I live on the south coast of the UK. I saw 4 black swans on a lake today. Never seen them before, but apparently, they are not very common. Beautiful birds though.
Black swans have been introduced around the world. One place in the UK they were introduced to was Dawlish in the 1940s. They are native to the southern part of Australia but are mostly found in the southwest, centred around the city of Perth where the main river that runs through it is literally called the Swan River. In fact, the city was originally founded as the Swan River colony. They're relatively common here and other parts of southern Australia but rare elsewhere. There are an estimated half a million of them worldwide, mostly in Australia.
In my area of Northern TAS you see them grazing along with dairy cows. There's also a family that seems "semi domesticated" at the seaport, they come to see you and talk to people in their Swan ways.

Hi, do you know why a black swan has no white feathers and only skinny like white bones in stead? And is that the reason it cannot fly?
??????????
Jadi pengen meliharanya
I would not say a swan’s call is melodic
Thanks. Just like music Rock v Funk v Punk v Rap v classical. But very melodic
State bird of Western Australia
I'm pretty sure that "anseriformes" is Latin not Greek.
Good pick up yes Anser is latin for Goose. Thanks. Bruce

Thanks
why did the Dutch never settled parts of Australia despite that they discovered it much earlier than the British?
I suspect they saw more profit in Indonesia!
