We didn't have an Against the Odds poll last week (don't worry, it's back at the end of this article), which means we're having a special episode this week to wrap up Dominaria season! Somehow, we made it through a month of episodes without playing the new Panharmonicon-Naban, Dean of Iteration-so we're fixing this problem this week with a deck I'm calling Nabanamonicon! The deck is pretty simple: we're basically a mono-blue Wizards Panharmonicon deck with a massive seven copies of Panharmonicon between Naban, Dean of Iteration and Panharmonicon itself, backed by a ton of tricky Wizards with enters-the-battlefield triggers, and even an infinite combo for good measure! Can Naban join forces with Panharmonicon to compete in Dominaria Standard? Let's get to the video and find out!

I'm still going to hold off. The impending collection wipe is just going to be too brutal. I can't imagine grinding a collection knowing someone is going to light the whole thing on fire.

The deck is so janky that no one is expecting it, much less prepared to deal with it xD This seems to be exactly what Blue was designed to do. Not win through power. Winning through irritating the other colors into submission; tapping creatures, bouncing creatures, countering spells, flickering guys for evasion, drawing cards... and then, somehow winning by poking the enemy to death with a bunch of wizards as the opponent just questions their life choices :-P
It is the perfect blue deck.
Seth (PBKASO), you can't say conquistador but you can you CAN say Nabanamonicon? How can this be?
EndPixel this one is easy to sound it; it alternates vowels and consonants and uses standard English pronunciation. Conquistador isn't English in origin and has that -quis isn't a natural pronunciation for an English-only speaker
because of the value of panharmonicon and the low value of the conquistador-hawks

and because "Nabanamonicon" isn't a real word
It's much easier to pronounce a word you invented. However you say theword, it's deemed correct

Bernabe Barrera-Palacios agreed, 100% better when basically every creature can enable it, syncopate may be more flexible but "counterspell" is so much more efficient
tando but Seth literally boarded it out against a Scarab god deck, idk if that was a misplay, or 4 seems to much in the 75. And countering scarab god normally also removes it for good.
they don't have any one drop wizards so they can't hold up a wizards retort turn 2 if they feel it necessary.
Bjosx makes sense, but I'm sure the deck would want to play one of the 12 two-drop wizards than leave up a censor.
Why not run MIrage Mirror to copy Panharmonicon so you can have Miranabanamonicon?
The best part of these video's aren't even the amazing strategies that are being presented but the absolute joy it bring Seth when they go off and crush tier one decks.

Why did you scoop match 1 game 1? Couldn't you have flashed in Trickster to mute the Marionette Master?

Trickster is just until end of turn. They can sac etherium cell and ballista at instant speed, so they can wait until the ability goes away

Can't we just hold the trickster to answer the sac though? I mean, not the sac, but the ability itself. Opponent sacs token, we answer by casting Trickster, opponent answers by growing and sac'ing Ballista into a 2/2, we take 6 and stay at 1, Trickster resolves, cancelling the Token drain. No?
Aquificae the marionette master trigger is already on the stack because you can't respond to mana abilities

Not that you'd know what this is, but I'm fairly certain that Naban was heavily inspired by Marvel's Doctor Strange. Ignoring their visual similarities, his flavor text references the Dormammu scene from the film.

My LGS may have most of the cards for this. I was thinking about mono blue fliers, but this is going to be so much funnier.
Seth has been making content for MTGGoldfish for over 3 years and I've never heard the dude pronounce "Serra Ascendant" correctly once. He builds a deck called "Nabanamonicon" and nails the name every. damn. time. I call shenanigans.

I would add something to protect Naban, such as Siren Stormtamer, Spell Pierce, or Dive Down.
Kyle Hart I agree. Naban dies too easily to matter without protection.
ehhh but then you will have those in your hand when you want a merfolk to draw with and have ultimately less triggers for when it does live. The aim of the deck is to be proactive, not reactive. I personally opt to throw in a few cards specifically as removal targets alongside synergistic support cards, so when they do stick they give better value. Whats the point in fighting the removal if it weakens the synergy?
Mitchell Boyd What's the point of having synergies if they are destroyed by a removal spell. You just get so much advantage by countering a crittical removal. And spell pierce is too reactive for the deck with sinc...?

I love this list! Been playing it online for the past couple days, I made some adjustments and splashed red for 3 Wizard's Lightning. With Naru Meha, one of our etb modifiers, and Illusionist's Stratagem we can make infinite lightnings with magical christmas land on turn 5 and later with proper setup. I put some fight with fire in the side, but not 100% sure about them. Any input on the changes?

There are a couple of reasons people keep commenting on your early scoops that I would like to point out. You play Magic for a living (now that's living the dream!), but your watchers do not. Many of your viewers are novice and/or moderately skilled players who have not seen all the cards and do not know all the synergy it can create. Additionally, you are actually a teacher of sorts. By watching you play, peeps are learning the more intricate interactions of the game. I personally would like, in many cases, to see the game play out (perhaps as long as you're not playing a slow player). I think we very much all appreciate your fast game play, yours are far and away the best games to watch on UA-cam because of the near perfect pacing (that, and your excitable nature). Of course you want to always win, but many of your viewers may actually root for the other players in some games, particularly if they are playing, or planning, a deck that's similar to your opponents. I notice you do sometimes explain the results as you scoop, but it's not as good as seeing the actual game play out, particularly if there is a chance, no matter how slim, that you could come back, and that brings up the other reason to finish the game. There is no game as fun to watch as when a player comes back from what seems an impossible situation. I have seen you do that in some games and it was quite exciting, but I think too many times you give up to early and seem to be a little too planeswalkerphobic. All that said, I am not indicating to never scoop, I am just saying perhaps give some consideration to new players who are not so familiar with the cards, maybe go just one extra turn if it's been a good game up to the inescapable "scooppoint".

Then you'd have potential lethal via combat next turn with Maru Meha?
I probably should have done it to see if the opponent messed up, but in that case they should just wait until our upkeep when Master gets its abilities back to sac the token and Ballista.
I don't understand getting rid of naru meha against aaprolings when it makes your 2/1 wizards able to block tokens and Slimefoot both. Given that the ultimate goal is tempo beat down the instant speed anthem effect seems awesome.

None of the three-drop red wizard that shocks the enemy? That seems like a dream curve after Naban.
i feel that would significantly affect the consistency of the deck since much of it requires double blue. its still good but itd have to be a very different deck if you wanted red.
You can add eight dual lands that enter untapped, at least.
Not always we can not assume they enter untapped at all times which is already a consistency issue and you'd be spending 40 some dollars on lands just to add that 3 drop. I will say I have nothing against the idea of it. However the deck that'd run that seems like it'd be very different from this one, since if I'm running red id already rather have wiz lightning and probably adeliz and at that point why even bother with naban over the lavarunner.

MTGGoldfish Agreed! Mind you I've actually really been enjoying the Arena specific metagame. The best of one and missing block makes deck building really interesting. I tried your Esper Flash list, then UW Control, then modified Esper Flash with less Raff and more removal that can deal with legends which got me a couple 7 win leagues and then last night tried your BW Knights and barely even needed any wild cards for and that deck is awesome and really fun to play. Really been enjoying Goldfish Gladiators and Arena in general

I feel as if Retort > Syncopate in the mainboard.
The Exile effect and that it can counter for 2 mana without needing a wizard out probably.
Ryan Chon you always have a wizard, and the exile is usually the same as a counter.

I made a deck very similar to this TWO DAYS BEFOR EIT CAME OUT- 'cept it had red burn wizards and was called Panharmonaban

Maybe I missed something, but in M1G1 when your opponent played tezzeret why was that a concession? You already had both creatures locked down with watertap weaver to go for an attack next turn.

That was fantastic! You did have a few seemingly early scoops from some opponents, but I guess playing an annoying janky deck will do that. But I have to ask, Seth, what are you going to do when Panharmonicon rotates out of Standard this fall?????

Wizards should go ahead and make Panharmonicon one of those cards that is constantly reprinted in Standard. It's not particularly competitive so it doesn't really affect the meta, but it's great for janky, fun, casual decks. They should do it in honor of Seth. :-)
Andrew Marinkovich but what of it does break something? Negate and things should as they're answers, but never combo pieces. That's playing with fire.
I'm hoping for a Core 19 reprint.
