In 1974, Astor Piazzolla recorded some compositions in the studio, among which ‘Libertango’ was first introduced to the world. This piece became one of Piazzolla’s most famous and widely recognized works. Libertango marks a pivotal point not only in Piazzolla's career but also in the history of tango music. This piece signified the birth of ‘Tango Nuevo’, a revolutionary style that breathed new life into traditional tango, combining it with elements of jazz and classical music. The title ‘Libertango’ is a fusion of two words: ‘libertad’ (which means freedom) and ‘tango’.
‘All my life - it's a sad tango. Not because I am sad. No, I am happy, I love good food, good wine - I love to live! My music has no reason to be sad, but it is sad simply because it is tango. It has drama, but no pessimism.’
