Mixed Media Tutorial - Tree of Life.

Grab your art materials and create alongside me.
Watch me create this mixed media collage piece, adding different elements as I go and bringing them together to create this unique piece which can be personalised by adding significant words or names of your choice to the leaves along with musical notes or anything that has meaning to you.
I use acrylic paint, my very favourite pencil which is a black Stabilo 8046, and Galleria Matt medium to stick the different elements down.

Hi Lisa, my pleasure, thanks for commenting. I use acrylics in a water colour way if that makes sense.. that way I can add layers if I need to.

Love this. I have a few questions😀. When you did the birds did you just use diluted acrylic and water ? And how do you protect or varnish such a beautiful piece? And one more. Where do you get your stencils? This picture takes me to a happy place. Thank you!

Hi there, thanks so much! Yes, I used diluted acrylic and water for the birds. I protect my pieces with matt medium once finished and then I add details with pencil once the piece is completely dry and has preferably sat for a day or two.. Finally I spray a couple of coats of fixative to fix the pencil detail. So pleased you enjoyed watching.. ☺️

... I didn’t actually use any stencils in this piece.. I tend to just jump in and draw it out and then maybe cut out my pieces and position. 😊

Hi, thanks so much for your comment. I drew the flowers and butterflies onto watercolour paper and then wet painted with acrylics. Some I painted and then cut out and stuck onto the piece and others I cut out and stuck down before painting.
