@@fyszen9767 My ISP doesn't allow port forwarding so my only option is to use a VPN which kind of defeats the purpose of running my own server(free). Could be your issue as well I was told it is becoming more common.
I'm sorry if I indicated that it is a necessary requirement. Most PCs and networks have it configured just fine, but if all else -- call your ISP and ask them what your default DNS addresses are. There should be 2)
Top Notch guide. I have done this with Ark Manager, but this doesn't take as much resources as the Manager does. The drawings are great, and the port forwarding for people is a great explanation. I knew the information. But enjoyed the way you went over it. Great Job cheers

OMG thank you so much my dud. This was sooo helpfull. I followed numerus of guides and the one problem I had was that my friends cound not join my server (they did not find it) even tho i had it listed under local. I tought it was something wrong with my port forwarding or my firewall setup, turn out the only thing i needed to do was to send them the public IP for them to add the server.
havent watched the whole thing but sent it to my mate who has run a few servers in the past for him and his mates, he been thinking about making a gen 2 server
what -NoTransferFromFiltering does is to block the transfer of items and dinos from others servers out of the cluster with a diff IP address, that way no one can bring anything :) great tutorial!
This is still super relevant to even the lost island update. Thank you for such a great and well-edited video, very easy to navigate and time-saving with the time stamps for "I just need to remember that one part again" current Ark Version: 341.33, I just updated to windows 11 and the only change was to *show more options when renaming a file.
This was so much fun to follow and so helpful but sadly I thought all was working well but I was wrong. My wife could play with me on our network but once our friends tried to join we quickly realized port forwarding isn't working. It appears to be a well documented AT&T issue. Calling them has yielding no results and I've even disabled Windows firewall (temporarily) to confirm the AT&T gateway is the issue. Old forwarded ports work fine but new ones will not function properly. So if you have AT&T fiber you may want to consider just renting a server instead as this may not work for you. I'm attempting to copy everything over to Ark Server Manager and see if that will bypass my port forwarding issues. Thanks so much for this guide though, it was so much fun messing around with this stuff and learning some of the syntax for the batch and ini files.
Whats great about you and this video is no one asked you to make this... no one asked you to make this and yet you set it upon yourself to make the video... My server doesn't show up in the unofficial list and if I try to connect by IP it just take me to the main menu
i have the same problem
mee too, hope he reads this...
Maybe you didnt open a port
@Brandon Breedveld what error does it give? And have you tried looking it up and seeing if you could find a fix?
I had that issue, but I forgot to open the 7777 port. I opened it separately, and my server worked.
Such a great video! Me and my friends have been paying for server hosting for years and now that won't be an issue! Thank you so much my dude
pls tell me how do you invite your friends?
@@nissepisse4761 did you find out
@@fadi2734 i dont remember sorry, i dont play ark anymore but i know that i didnt host a server because i needed to have a port open and thats not good for your network security
Thank you so much, you're the only tutorial I've found that mentions Epic. Everything is working so far, and I only own the epic version of Ark, I don't own a copy on steam. I just have to wait for server/update to finish downloading and then I can test joining the server with Epic :D
Very noob question: once the server starts running, if no one is joined to the server, will the in-game clock still run? Like if I start the server and then it takes me and my mates an hour to all get ready and joined, will an hours worth of in-game time have passed? If that makes sense...
Yes, time moves in-game even if no players are online. And I'm glad it helped.
@@NeddyTheNoodle I figured it would but needed to confirm haha. I'll reply back and let you know if we get it up and running successfully. You've been a massive help, and are really good at explaining this stuff like others here have said :) keep it up!
Edit: I made the mistake of saving the steamCMD folder in program files, so I’ve had to create a second bat file that manually navigates to the server exe, but it the Saved folder shows up now :D
Don’t save SteamCMD folder to program files, kids! It might feel organised at the time, but it’s not worth it lol
So I don't have to own a copy on steam to make a server?
Because I only have the version on epic too.
This is the best tutorial for building a server. Thank you very much for your knowledge. I’ve had to watch it several times over cause I’m a muppet and keep making mistakes.
You're very welcome!
awesome guide following this was easy for me and got the server setup in less than an hour but im coming across a problem where my server isnt showing up for my friends im familiar with port forwarding so im sure i did that right allowed both ark and shooter games through my fire wall but i cant seem to figure out what the problem is any help would be greatly appreciated
did you figure it out?
Have you find the solution?
Thank you for making it so that all of my friends can play ark on the same server! We spent like 4 hours trying to figure it out and you saved us! Thank you!
How did your friends join the server? Mine cant find it anywhere.
@@nonope5096 smae here pls lemme know if u find a solution
@@d_moon.g8407 no luck :(. My best guess is that it has to do with fucky port stuff, but i couldnt figure it out and have since moved on. Good luck though!!
Great vid but how do you update mods?
Sad that both these vids on this subject have nearly 300k combined views with not even 6k likes . . Surely more than 6k people INCLUDING myself have been helped by this tutorial. Thanks for helping me with this ned and may the ungrateful people that can't take the second to at least hit the like button come back and hit it to show their appreciation for this guide. thanks, dude, very well put out.
Whenever i add the server to my favorites, the map is called "ShooterEntry". How do I fix this?
You might have forgot to set your server name in the batch file
so calm, so nice sounding, it really made it easy to understand.
This was an absolutely fantastic video, thanks for putting it together! I know a lot of time must have gone into this!
I followed your steps and was able to get my own server launched, get the Ports forwarded, and have been able to have another friend join using my public IP and the port number. However, I have another friend who is unable to join. We both use steam, but no matter what he puts it won't show up inside of the favorites, and neither will it show up trying to search for it in the unofficial lists inside of Ark itself. Any recommendations to anyone?
I'm having the same problem. Did you figure it out?
@@mattwilson5503 I'm also having same issue any fixes?
@@fyszen9767 My ISP doesn't allow port forwarding so my only option is to use a VPN which kind of defeats the purpose of running my own server(free). Could be your issue as well I was told it is becoming more common.

Thank you for this video, it was so informative and explained this so perfectly. Server is up and running.
what is this dns address setup thigny you said we need to do to make clusters work?
*cluster does not work
yeah, i tried to look for it on the intenet and cant find it
I'm sorry if I indicated that it is a necessary requirement. Most PCs and networks have it configured just fine, but if all else -- call your ISP and ask them what your default DNS addresses are. There should be 2)
Thank you so much man it still works to this day if anhyone is wondering
how did your friends join your server because my friends cant find mine
@@potatosfordrugs1382yeah me too, i cant even find mine on favorites even though the server is up
Just started playing ark again and this guide really still does it good !
Top Notch guide. I have done this with Ark Manager, but this doesn't take as much resources as the Manager does. The drawings are great, and the port forwarding for people is a great explanation. I knew the information. But enjoyed the way you went over it. Great Job cheers
dude i absolutely love your content this has to be one of the greatest channels ever thank you so much
Thank you man, I spended 3 hours but it works!
spended?
Nice job this will be useful to so many people
What an amazing explanation and such dedication!! Thank you very much for all of your effort!! 😊
Best tuto that I had seen on UA-cam ! Congrats from France :)
Wow. This video has helped me IMMENSELY. Thanks so much!!
Thank you, Ive been wanting to play ARK again for a while but didnt want to do official or deal with anyone elses server and I had an old crappy PC that I actually created a running server for my twin and I :) Great Job
Thank you very much for making this, this is comprehensive and extremely helpful!
I'm inviting you to my birthday party, you rock! This video has made my day.
amazing tutorial - i'm used to running other servers such as cs:go and mc, and this tutorial is straight-forward and good.
Thank you so much for this video it has helped me so much I could not have asked for a better video.
Perfect tutorial format, very helpful thanks!
I finally got to fix my problem, ty for the amazing guide, can now finally play with my friends, just earned a sub ned!
I just started on PC ark last week on Friday and I'm pretty good not a pro but good so I'm glad I found this so I can host my own
Wow! Awesome video, thank you very much sir. The video was long but well worth it.
Thank you. This helped a lot with setting up my own server. Keep up the informed videos.
Nice Really helping the community here thanks man👍
OMG thank you so much my dud. This was sooo helpfull. I followed numerus of guides and the one problem I had was that my friends cound not join my server (they did not find it) even tho i had it listed under local. I tought it was something wrong with my port forwarding or my firewall setup, turn out the only thing i needed to do was to send them the public IP for them to add the server.
really good video, just got my server running!! been wanting to do this for awhile, thanks!!!
is it a dedicated one ??
havent watched the whole thing but sent it to my mate who has run a few servers in the past for him and his mates, he been thinking about making a gen 2 server
i appreciate your time and effort you put in this video, my friend. helped me a lot. thank you
Awesome Video Ned, thank you so much :)
👍
Thanks for the video. Much better than the instructions on the wiki page
You are an absolute LEGEND! Thank you soooo much!
what -NoTransferFromFiltering does is to block the transfer of items and dinos from others servers out of the cluster with a diff IP address, that way no one can bring anything :) great tutorial!
Is it just LostIsland or is it anything weird like Lost_Island
i need help at 14:03 how do i "start" the file
@@BooDeeSniffa double click it?
@@khapotea have you gotten a answer?
glad this is working for everyone else.
Thanks for uploading this!
Whats great about you and this video is no one asked you to make this... no one asked you to make this and yet you set it upon yourself to make the video... Like holy crap, thank you man, thank you so much this video from start to finish is what i needed to get my ark server going! like you the MVP in my books, thanks! I wish youtube paid people like you more.
