Some of my fondest ark memories: 1. getting picked up by some dude on a pteranodon and dropped to my death 2. picking random nakeds up with my pteranodon and dropping them in the ocean then watching them get swarmed by sharks 3. knocking people out with clubs and putting them in cages 4. having a random encounter with a carno and thinking my wooden base would protect me from his wrath 5. getting jumpscared by raptors 6. being deathly afraid of going near any wooded area
Listing things i remember before watching the video: 1. Giga saddles actually reducing the rage they get from being damaged 2. Body bags. Being able to load unconscious bodies with caps of materials with no weight cost to a quetz. 3. Ascendant rocket launchers. 5. Ascendants used to be red. 6. Half of Ragnarok missing 7. Griffins being able to fly up into the sky super quick so they could re-dive bomb 8. Upgrading movement speed on fliers 9. Upgrading movement speed on players 10. Quetzals being able to regenerate stamina in mid air 11. Ice wyverns having the lightning wyvern model 12. Ice wyverns on Ragnarok were invisible for the longest time, the ice deathworms in the ice cave were also invisible 13. All the old dino models 14. Rexes used to be able to fit through normal dino gates 15. Having to trap tames in order to breed them as you had to enable wandering 16. The atrocious kibble system and having to farm eggs from every dino 17. Old UI 18. Managarmrs one shotting players off tames, even those in racer boxes 19. Pre nerf managarmrs in general tbh 20. Dino leashes used to prevent managarmr ice breath 21. You used to be able to bring gigas into boss fights by throwing a cryo pod last second before teleporting into the arena 22. Old island volcano 23. Not being able to pick up ANYTHING 24. Rare mushrooms being an elite food source 25. Floating babies to make them eat less food 26. Putting babies in water to make them eat less food 27. Not being able to breed things like wyverns 28. Extinction titans being able to crip walk any base regardless of tames, turrets etc, and were able to be downloaded INSTANTLY. 29. Could be wrong, but I don't remember titanoboas being tameable? They are now 30. No death markers 31. Giant and tanky vaults 32. Max level of tames being 120, not 150 33. Server transfers are now 15 minutes long. IIRC they used to be around 45-60 minutes long! If you missed the timer, you weren't goin to whatever you were wanting to go to 34. Swamp fever used to be curable simply by transferring servers 35. The giga roar sound has been changed numerous times 36. Plant species X used to sway back and forth causing massive lag 37. I could be misremembering, but I swear the Island used to get snow covered during the Christmas time 38. Players only turrets used to do nothing. You were able to be on the back of carbos (turtles) and would not get shot off your tame. This was the meta.
I feel old. I remember everything you showed in the video. The only thing you forgot to mention was back at launch you could put plant x on platform saddles.
oooh those good old days where you couldn't land on flyers xD forgot about that one... this brings back lot's of memories, sometimes I forget I've been playing this game for so long
When I was quite a bit younger playing this game, I always used to think the hot (not overheating) icon was fried chicken, it actually took several years to realise it was a flame... I was a slow kid
To explain 50/50 further (had a base sitting on the cliff across from it for a long time on official); EVERYTHING in the game used to default to 50/50. You could sit there and watch wild dinos, tames, eggs, even players fall out of the sky all day at 50/50 and just fall down into the free for all. If the game game ever lost track of something or didn't know where you should be, it teleported you to 50/50 at the top of the sky box. Some people weren't nearly as nice, and would make turret boxes at 50/50 to kill anything dropped in and try to block any new Quetzal taming though....
I remember them adding stat inheritance to breeding. Initial breeding generated you a new dino of a level somewhere between the two parents, but the stats were just RNG. Struggle to remember when this was, we had the swamp but not the redwoods, and old volcano still. Somewhere around the time wolves came in maybe
I just loaded my dinos' inventories with stone so they were literally too heavy to move but they game still considered them "wandering" when set to wander.
how i remember all these and how far ark has come makes me feel old. should add on to the body finding that when you did die you only had 1 try to get back to your bag before it was gone
Man, I miss the first Winter wonderland... I remember how HARD it was to start out new during the holidays back then. As happy as I was when they returned the map to normal as I wasn't freezing anymore, I kinda miss that challange. This maybe the reason why I adore the Wonderland theme so much, as it basically reminds me of my first steps in ark on my first own PC back in the day...
I remember all of those things... My PC was to weak so I watched my brother play and as soon as it got to Xbox I couldn't stop playing. I remember when the giga came out, it was OP and it's roar was better. They changed its roar when they nerfed it I think. Great vid for all that nostalgia
I'll never forget making a massive as hell base on the west side of the island. When the swamp got added my whole base got shunted in the air and had to figure out how to move everything out of the swamp. What a cool and wild time.
I still remember finding all the new dinos that got added being excited learning the game mechanics and everything when this game first released. This game has changed so much(for the better) and im happy to experience the beginning. I didnt play during early access but i remember pre ordering it and playing the beginning. I also remember when the center was playable with friends 🙄 our favorite map as a kid
You could whistle the dinos while they were wandering to make them stand still while mating. Dino levels capped at lvl 30 when the game first launched for early access. They slowly raised the level of the dinos to 60, 90,120 and eventually 150 now.
wild to my brain that these are considered old and og I can distinctly remember exploring the old island map w/ no redwoods and big snow and seeing the warnings that the devs put up telling folks to avoid building in that zone, as well as admiring all my t rexes and argies after the tlc upgrades. I even still have some of those saved worlds on a usb I swear that was just like 3 years ago, time really flies holy
man the longer I watch the more and more stuff there is that I swear doesn't feel like it should be og stuff but I guess it is lmao I still get excited when I see a titanboa egg, nevermind the kibble AND taming update lol and speaking of that usb, my og world should still has some floating structures over the volcano since I had a small mining base there
You missed a good amount of things sadly, some of the memorable ones for me were dossiers which you partially included, however tameable creature dossiers could only be acquired through taming and every other creature dossier was by killing the creature. Then there’s ascendant not being obtainable without using commands, which was a big one and I remember telling some of my mates I was playing with about it and some of them being sceptical, then there’s another major one being mating getting added (which has been implemented over multiple updates as well) because the first update only included some terrestrial creatures, then they added the aquatic mating as well (making frogs and other amphibious creatures and also most of the aquatic creatures), third I believe was adding the invertebrates (excluding mantis’s which came later on) and then ofc last IIRC was creatures only obtainable by stealing eggs becoming mate able. There’s also the fur/feather update which changed the look of many creatures for the better (which was super weird to experience). Then there’s also one that was significant in terms of the use of sabers, being when they were nerfed a ton which happened a bit after the swamp and snow area were added (the saber I had fx had 10k hp pre nerf and after the nerf it had 4,5k). Eels were also insanely deadly when they were first added because if my memory is correct they had more of a lightning wyvern like breath which also had an aoe effect dismounting players leading to them being nerfed a ton as a result. Doedics being added was also a big one as you had no way to efficiently gather stone with creatures before then. There’s also tranq darts being added and then much, much later harpoons and shocking tranq darts. There’s definitely more that I don’t remember but there’s so much stuff that’s changed through the years.
Been listening to your videos in the background while I'm doing my resource farming. I have to say it's a lot of nostalgia (not always good memories) while listening to this one. But you are killing me with how you pronounce "similar". Sim-U-Lerr is how you say it, but it's Sim-Ah-Lerr. Just had to tell you that you are bringing out the old man in me while I wave my fist in the air. Enjoy your videos all the same. 120 was max level on The Island for a very long time after The Center came out with 150 max level. If I remember correctly it took some mod to increase it before it eventually became a server setting to override max level for The Island. But I want to say it was after Scorched Earth came out before it was made as an official setting option for servers.
The volcano change was a tragedy at the time, took them a while to add enough metal to be comparable to before. Went from being able to fill up an indy and a half to a little less than 1 by clearing nearly the entire map of metal on the old official rates
I thought I would know most of these concidering I started playing in 2018/2017 (not sure which one) and I only know like 30% of these, great video though!
I'll never forget, how my brother inlaw wanted a Polar bear, but we were playing on Crystal isles so we couldn't find/get one. So we settled to tame a dire-bear, before I knew it he painted it all white!
Originally, in the very first weeks, Pteranodons had no creature inventory. Fish gave regular meat and fish meat was added later. For those of us not watching patch notes...the addition of the piranha was a bit of a surprise. It was suddenly not safe to swim across the rivers.
Quetzals was so accurate at 50,50 we built big traps they would fly right into with behemoth gates on a pillar tower high up in the air. Took a long time to build, but once made it was easy peasy to tame as many as you needed as they all went right to that location.
i remember the old kibble system too well. I got a base together with my girlfriend on a privat server we shared with alot of friends and she forced me to tame a male and female of EVERY fing dino to make all the kibbles... also the base was rediculous in size so 20 seconds after flying in there were still structures loading in
Really great video man! This was a blast from the past. I played since the original beta. But dude, you gotta turn away from the mic or something when you get done with a sentence. Every time you finish talking you let this really weird breath out into the mic my dude.
with the flyer nerf from what i heard. it was because wyverns where being pumped with speed so fast they could clip into Tribes bases before it could render once rendered they could just wipe every thing out from the inside
Hey man I loved your video, nice work compiling all that info, I started playing on 2022 and I definitely knew very little from experience but I’ve read about it. PS: About the Quetzal 50/50 I’ve tamed quite a number of Quetzals back on The Island and Crystal Isles specifically and I can definitely say they go somewhere around the middle of the map. They don’t fly straight to 50/50 but always end up there somehow. I recall on Crystal Isles you always found them at the savannah or emberfalls biome, and they always ended up at the central river with the copper peaks/red tree forests(not redwoods)
I remember one of the tricks for dealing with dinosaurs wandering away from each other when mating was to fill their inventory with something heavy like a bunch of stone or something to make them too heavy to move. Then enable wandering for the game to think they are wandering around despite them physically not being able to move. I think I remember one of the reasons why they nerfed flyer speeds was because you could make your flyers soo fast that you could move faster than the world map could load/render and it would often cause the game to break/crash (if I recall correctly) so they nerfed it so players couldn't make their flyers fly at like 300x speed. XD I think one issue that old/original players might remember was the "pillaring" epidemic that use to plague online/multiplayer severs. Where you would have tribes that would claim entire sections of the map by building random wooden pillars everywhere essentially making it so no one outside of their tribe could build anywhere remotely close to their bases. I remember one of the first and only times I ever played on an open public server and I slowly starved to death because there were soo many wooden pillars scattered over the map that I couldn't build a simple campfire to cook my meat to keep myself well fed. Players in those tribes would often log on just to take a flyer to sweep the area of their pillars to reset the decay timers on them and keep them forever but I think the devs eventually nerfed it so the timers didn't last as long. Though, that combined with the fact people would often build spike walls around the spawn locations meaning that new players were often starting games and spawning in circles of spike walls unable to do anything was more than enough issue that I just never bothered with online.
I remember all of these so clearly except for the original island, I distinctly remember an ice area in the months leading up to the centers release but I hadn't played it after until 2 years ago and my head honestly broke with the swamp and red woods on the island.
I remember when swamp fever first came out and the treatment was absurdly tedious to get. So it was just people in global going "Dont go towards [Map loction of a clan base] they're infected"
I still color my ascendant gear with red! I can't possibly see it as any different. Man, the old ui brings me back. The game really has changed so much over the years.
I am not an og, I'm not even going to pretend that I am. Now, I do remember some of this stuff, because I started playing somewhere between Aberration and Extinction, and I did watch some older videos before that, so I do remember some of this stuff, like the sky and the breeding system, though the phoenix and the volcano threw me for a loop.
I remember the Dossiers at the one point there was an achievement for Taming all 100 dinos to get the dossiers and you’d get a complete book when you get them all. But you had to tame them you couldn’t just kill it. Unless it was a fish or the Titanboa
Dude, I remember when the spino got added lol. Been playing ark for so long, played a lot of pvp, seen the Metta change, seen Dino’s be busted, then nerfed, I’ve seen it all…
That attacking sound 10/10. The dino level at launch was actually max at 30. Also there was a massive tame dino nerf i remember it was possible to get a rex to 100k hp (breeding didnt exist)
Op turtle soaking. Ascendant rocket launchers. Quetzal weight glitch with a ladder or ramp and anky. Nerfing the club’s effect against flak and most armor. Quetzal’s with turrets, plants and auto-turrets. Griffins changing ground pvp. Kishko god of foot pvp. No map markers.
I remember always using the centre as my main map until they added an update that made it to where you couldn’t play on the centre until you ascended on the island
Number 43...... Yes I remember winter wonderland. It was epic, brutal for low level players though. Whole map had the low temps like in the new snow areas. I started a week before Fear Evolved 1
I remember farming titanboa eggs, i built a pen of a hill with hatchdoor ceilings so i could walk underneath, 3 walls high no roof, just dropped snakes in with my argy
I played about a few hours of Ark a little after it first came out, then never played it again, so seeing videos of how it is now is strange sometimes (though I didn't get to see much in those few hours anyway)
one thing i remember back in the day was when bats and snakes was cave only creatures and if you tried to take them out or (admin spawn) them in the wild it could crash the game
12:40 i have that now cuz im playing on ps4 that was my frends ps and i have one too But he didnt have ark and i have so one day i bring my ark to him when we Tried to turn it on i just go to og ark and after 5-10min it sey disk is dirti or not vorking and i get sed then cuz hi have tras ps and we canot play on his ps😢

5. getting jumpscared by raptors
6. being deathly afraid of going near any wooded area
Listing things i remember before watching the video:
1. Giga saddles actually reducing the rage they get from being damaged
2. Body bags. Being able to load unconscious bodies with caps of materials with no weight cost to a quetz.
3. Ascendant rocket launchers.
5. Ascendants used to be red.
6. Half of Ragnarok missing
7. Griffins being able to fly up into the sky super quick so they could re-dive bomb
8. Upgrading movement speed on fliers
9. Upgrading movement speed on players
10. Quetzals being able to regenerate stamina in mid air
11. Ice wyverns having the lightning wyvern model
12. Ice wyverns on Ragnarok were invisible for the longest time, the ice deathworms in the ice cave were also invisible
13. All the old dino models
14. Rexes used to be able to fit through normal dino gates
15. Having to trap tames in order to breed them as you had to enable wandering
16. The atrocious kibble system and having to farm eggs from every dino
17. Old UI
18. Managarmrs one shotting players off tames, even those in racer boxes
19. Pre nerf managarmrs in general tbh
20. Dino leashes used to prevent managarmr ice breath
21. You used to be able to bring gigas into boss fights by throwing a cryo pod last second before teleporting into the arena
22. Old island volcano
23. Not being able to pick up ANYTHING
24. Rare mushrooms being an elite food source
25. Floating babies to make them eat less food
26. Putting babies in water to make them eat less food
27. Not being able to breed things like wyverns
28. Extinction titans being able to crip walk any base regardless of tames, turrets etc, and were able to be downloaded INSTANTLY.
29. Could be wrong, but I don't remember titanoboas being tameable? They are now
30. No death markers
31. Giant and tanky vaults
32. Max level of tames being 120, not 150
33. Server transfers are now 15 minutes long. IIRC they used to be around 45-60 minutes long! If you missed the timer, you weren't goin to whatever you were wanting to go to
34. Swamp fever used to be curable simply by transferring servers
35. The giga roar sound has been changed numerous times
36. Plant species X used to sway back and forth causing massive lag
37. I could be misremembering, but I swear the Island used to get snow covered during the Christmas time
38. Players only turrets used to do nothing. You were able to be on the back of carbos (turtles) and would not get shot off your tame. This was the meta.
I feel old. I remember everything you showed in the video. The only thing you forgot to mention was back at launch you could put plant x on platform saddles.
I hated the Spino TLC because we lost our puppy dog running animation 💔
Kraken's Better Dinos changes it to use that animation
Oof
oooh those good old days where you couldn't land on flyers xD forgot about that one... this brings back lot's of memories, sometimes I forget I've been playing this game for so long
oh the memories , good video brother
When I was quite a bit younger playing this game, I always used to think the hot (not overheating) icon was fried chicken, it actually took several years to realise it was a flame... I was a slow kid
😂😂😂 Tbf when i first played ark i had no idea what the icons meant except for the obvious ones
Can’t forget about old breeding levels. Used to pop out lvl 596 rexes with insane stats before they removed all Dino’s over lvl 500
Oh yeah and the imprinting was introduced! How bout when gigas too 15 days to raise 🤣
Ark's og combat music is so epic, it makes me nostaligic
Most of us didnt make elaborate breeding structures; we just U whistled....
I can still hear it....
Accidentally hit follow all…
@@shanem8957 to this day, why i still manually put nearly all tames on Ignore Group whistle.....***shudders***...the memories....
I just loaded my dinos' inventories with stone so they were literally too heavy to move but they game still considered them "wandering" when set to wander.
love your channel dude keep it up
how i remember all these and how far ark has come makes me feel old. should add on to the body finding that when you did die you only had 1 try to get back to your bag before it was gone
That UI hit me 🥲 man I miss the beginning days of Ark!
They slowly raised the level of the dinos to 60, 90,120 and eventually 150 now.
wild to my brain that these are considered old and og
I can distinctly remember exploring the old island map w/ no redwoods and big snow and seeing the warnings that the devs put up telling folks to avoid building in that zone, as well as admiring all my t rexes and argies after the tlc upgrades. I even still have some of those saved worlds on a usb
I swear that was just like 3 years ago, time really flies holy
man the longer I watch the more and more stuff there is that I swear doesn't feel like it should be og stuff but I guess it is lmao
I still get excited when I see a titanboa egg, nevermind the kibble AND taming update lol
and speaking of that usb, my og world should still has some floating structures over the volcano since I had a small mining base there
Sir, rare mushrooms REMAINED my main food source even after it blinded you. The trick was to just eat 4, and not go anywhere for around a minute 😂
Yup, easy abberation food till meat isn't any problem
Underrated video.
I still play Ark Survival Evolved, I don't like Ascended as much, I never got into it.
I started playing back in 2017 and haven’t had played in like a year this brought back so many memories
I'll never forget, how my brother inlaw wanted a Polar bear, but we were playing on Crystal isles so we couldn't find/get one. So we settled to tame a dire-bear, before I knew it he painted it all white!
I am a returning player and i just used this video as an update to figure out what wildcard added over the years lmao.
I have so many pictures and videos of way old ark... pre SE... hell, pre Argy...
Oh God that old battle music brings back memories
I remember the jump puzzle on the center map in the underworld that would award you with ascendant gear if you got to the end
You can turn flyer speed leveling on in settings.
i remember the old kibble system too well.
Every time you finish talking you let this really weird breath out into the mic my dude.
mammoth had a b hole and they removed it on tlc...
Sabertooths had junk on their early models too
19:00 I won't lie, seeing ptera attack on ground surprised me a lot. I never use them so I never saw it coming. (I use argy only)
Flyer nerf coincided with when I stopped playing for no specfic reason
with the flyer nerf from what i heard. it was because wyverns where being pumped with speed so fast they could clip into Tribes bases before it could render once rendered they could just wipe every thing out from the inside
I miss old ark and old friends we all made along the way. I have a feeling we'll meet again someday. :]
XD
I think one issue that old/original players might remember was the "pillaring" epidemic that use to plague online/multiplayer severs.
This just gave me hella nostalgia
Meh, same, i started a month or 2 after scorched
I remember the Dossiers at the one point there was an achievement for Taming all 100 dinos to get the dossiers and you’d get a complete book when you get them all. But you had to tame them you couldn’t just kill it. Unless it was a fish or the Titanboa
Ahh, yes the good old days! I've been playing since the game came out in 2015 😢
Bro I remember all of these I got the game like 12 days after it came out and have played since so crazy how far it's come
Dude, I remember when the spino got added lol. Been playing ark for so long, played a lot of pvp, seen the Metta change, seen Dino’s be busted, then nerfed, I’ve seen it all…
The explorer note for the moss chops still says they can’t ride or attack anything
Surprised you didn't mention some of the quirky stuff back when like scorched earth first came out the morelatops saddle was still named "camelsaurus"
The old knockout sound for your character was top tier. Still mad they changed it
That attacking sound 10/10.
I swear when Quetzs were originally added they didn’t have the Mohawks. But I might be wrong there
I remember always using the centre as my main map until they added an update that made it to where you couldn’t play on the centre until you ascended on the island
I still remember the old rates. It'd be 0.5x nowadays. Where a low-level trike would take several hours to tame with berries. Not missing that one bit
one thing i remember back in the day was when bats and snakes was cave only creatures and if you tried to take them out or (admin spawn) them in the wild it could crash the game
12:40 i have that now cuz im playing on ps4 that was my frends ps and i have one too
But he didnt have ark and i have so one day i bring my ark to him when we Tried to turn it on i just go to og ark and after 5-10min it sey disk is dirti or not vorking and i get sed then cuz hi have tras ps and we canot play on his ps😢
for the first winter wonderland event i just keep freezing to death constantly xD the megaloceros and penguins across the entire map was cool tho
You forgot the most significant change in Arks histroy... the billy goat Pachy noises 😪
This is nostalgic❤
For the old breeding, all I did was have them follow a stationary Dino with the closest range possible and enable wandering. It worked and no need to build a pen.
