  • The second instalment from the late Bill Cotton. His programmes were a Saturday night 'experience' in the 1950's and 60's, not to be missed! Oh the nostalgia. It floods back when you watch this VT, shot of course in glorious monochrome - OK Black and White then if you prefer! The Copyright in this video segment belongs to the BBC. © 1964 BBC

What a wonderful song, beautifully sung. RIP Kathy.

I also wish this was released on DVD. Kathy Kay's version of "This Is My Prayer" is so haunting, I had forgotten just what a wonderful singer she was. May she rest in peace. It's a pity that today's TV shows have nothing in the way of talent when it comes to entertainment after watching this video, thanks for posting.

My pleasure Dave. I was 10! What a easier and gentle sense of life and fun we had in the 60's! I remember sitting in front of the telly with the family ( I am the youngest of four) every Saturday night waiting for the show to start. It is a cliche -but in very many respects 'Those were the days'...

I too remember sitting & watching this with the family, together with Saturday Night at the London Palladium and The Black & White Minstrels Show. That 'Wakey Wakey' intro brought it all back. Innocent times! Thanks for the upload.

Always been a Frankie Vaughan fan, what an entertainer, with his trademark top hat and cane

I would kiss the tv screen whenever Kathy appeared... later in Life I met her when I was performing on night.... she introduced herself to me as she'd seen me before... it is a meeting I will never forget for the rest of my life.... I love you Kathy Kay xxxxxx

Such a different style, almost a forgotten era, not by many of her fans though. Thank You for your comments.

I have been trying to find as much as possible about Billy Cotton's Band Show (I remember it so well), because Colin Dobson, a dear friend, has left our world and his family wanted to have the 'celebration' of his life to take place tomorrow night at our Farnborough Jazz Club (Kent). Colin played trumpet in Billy's band. So if any of the band are still with us and live close enough to come, the family would love to meet you (as I would too). I just love UA-cam for finding these lovely bits of treasure- as to the BBC. (love the song 'Friends') Diane, Farnborough Jazz Club, Kent, BR6 7BA

Thanks for sharing your memories. I am pleased to know that others, like me, still appreciate the 'Old Days'!

@GLFVIDEO Thanks - I stand corrected. A quick google and I find that Jay Kays mother is in fact singer and comedienne KAREN Kay

I'm sorry but they will not do so. BBC Worldwide (the BBC's commercial operation), would only do so if they thought the result would prove to be very high sales. Of course that would not happen - but I do agree with you.
Thanks for taking the time to comment.

Amazed to see my old girl friend of 50 years ago in the credits. Jacqui Daryl went out with her 1960-62. Wonder where I can get a DVD copy of the full programme do you know? She was in film Summer Holiday with Cliff Richard too. Oliver Reed figured in her life too. RMD

Consider yourself corrected!. Kathy had three sons, Stewart, Don and Ken. She contracted Alzheimers disease in 1990 and died peacefully with her sons at her side in 2005.

Thank You for your comments. You have wisdom far beyond your years. When I was 15 in 1969 we had just three tv Channels, no Internet, PC's PC games or mobile phones. We didn't mind we knew no different then. The world is a much less friendly place than it was then. Not that I am against technology - far from it. People were gentler and nicer to each other, the pace of life was slower, but it wasn't all good! If you like these old progs you'll find a few more on My Channel.

Kathy Kay - correct me if I'm wrong but she isn't she the mother of Jay Kay who is the lead singer with Jamiroquoi?
