Thank you for this reminder. I’ve been taking care of a husband who had an awful accident in summer of 2022. I took a nice walk this afternoon and I’, getting ready to set my timer for 5 minutes and do nothing. I’m constantly taking care of one chore or errand and I need to just breathe. Blessings!

Hi Diane. I love your clothes. You have such great fashion. Its inspiring me to get out of my pajamas before the day is through, make my bed, clean the sink and get dressed to shoes. I am recovering from severe trauma that caused head injury, kidney injury, spinal injuries as well as external injuries to arms, legs. In addition from severe dehydration that led to kidney infection and kidney stones. I was attacked on August 21. I previously had head and spinal cord injury and have been disabled many years now. Head injury and spinal cord injury stopped my motivation and was so overwhelming I never knew where to begin. When another FLY lady, who is a friend sat me down to watch the first 21 days of your program three days ago, my world felt an instant cure in the brain. What seemed like a mounstain to climb as high as the heavens suddenly changed into something I thought I could actually accomplish. I had instant healing neurologically. It changed my whole life into HOPE. After watching the first 21 videos three days ago, I bought good sneakers because I have trouble walking. and, have always realized over the years the brain connection of shoes with ties and its impact to get something done. But, I am in a foreign country right now so I dont have much at all and am unable to return to my country due to the injuries. The woman happened to be selling beautiful dresses that her daughter no longer wanted. So, I bought a few so I could look beautiful instead of wearing pajamas. She gave me a journal and sticky notes, too. I left her home with the sneakers, the journal, the dresses and the sticky notes 3 days ago. I implemented making the bed, dressing to shoes, and shining the sink. But, I was too tired to do the dishes so I set them aside out of the sink to soak overnight. The next day, I did dishes, clean sink, and decided to get dressed in the beautiful new dress with the sneakers to celebrate my new journey as a beginner FLY baby. I am so very inspired and have been writing ways to adapt this specifically for head injury people or people with disabilities who have additional issues to manage every day. I found that your program really is a fantastic approach for head injury and people in trauma or disability who feel so much chaos its hard to know where to start or end. Nutrition, hydration and physical therapies, prayer time along with medication administration are all part of my morning routine and I am trying to find how to put it all in order. So, I am getting up, making bed, taking medications, having coffee, cleaning sink and then going to garden for physical therapy and prayer. After that I have to rest. I am tired. Then, I am dressing to shoes. Next, preparing my morning fruit smoothie and hydrating. It takes me a long time to do all this because I am in much pain and fatigue at this time. But, I told myself I will just do what I can and love myself enough to rest when I have to. But, my brain feels like it came out of chaos by watching your videos. Out of a fog and to a place I wanted to reach but just did not know how to. So, you have really served to aid me in a neurological healing. I have not had anyone in the 21 years I have suffered from head and spinal cord injury help me to find a way out of brain fog and back to order. I feel I came out of some coma...I mean a real healing. I am not exaggerating. I wish I knew this method many years ago. Thank you for all you share. You are an amazing person. and, your approach is so unique that it makes me feel I can do this and I am. I am a Catholic and believe in miracles. I want you to know you have served to do this for me by the grace of God. I wish I could send you some photos of me celebrating this in my new dress. Is there a way? God bless you. Peace and much love. I love you from deepest part for changing my world in one afternoon in the first 21 videos I watched.

Dearest Diane, I am a newbie and I am a 63 yr old widow. Today 5/5/17 is my Day 5. I've had a couple of very rough nights sleep-wise. So starting the morning well-rested and raring to meet the day is rough. I also work full-time. I'm shining my sink, swishing and swiping my own bathroom only, and laying out my next day's clothes. The sweet birds chirping in the background are not a distraction and you always look so pulled together and chic and fashionable. Always. You have a calming voice. So thank you for your time. It's appreciated.

So I found you this evening while I was relaxing after a hectic day at work (as a wedding coordinator) and binge watched the morning & evening routines and then onto the 31 steps and after step two I thought about the shiny sink and got up off my sofa and went and washed up the dinner dishes etc (in fact the whole days dishes!) Whilst watching the other steps up to here and now I'm sat down with a cup of tea and feeling very smug about my clean kitchen and not having to face the dishes tomorrow morning! :)

You are so on point with everything it’s like you are in my mind lol. I used to get makeup and clothes on every single day and in the last 5 years have really let myself and my house go and I realize it can be quite depressing. Before my illness I was a very organized person. It’s hard when you have a chronic illness ( I have Rheumatoid Arthritis) to be able to get out of bed in the morning. I honestly feel if I start to get my appearance up to par daily it will really help

These short step by step videos are great! I'm in Australia and I suffer from low Vitamin D. I find when I take 10 mins of sitting in the sun (with a timer and with as little as possible on, even here, in winter, that means it's only rolling up my sleeves) my whole outlook on life improves and I start feeling great! Thanks for all the little reminders, can't wait to watch the rest :-)

It was always dirty. Now my sink is clean each day, I keep it clear of dishes, and I feel proud and empowered. So many other things in my life are flowing more easily. I have a young son and never learned to keep house. Thank you! PS I love the love birds.

I crashed and burned (of course lol) because I didn't take the time to slowly build routines. I'm back again, trying it the right way! So far so good!

I can imagine why this is so difficult. Most other tasks can be picked up again when we get interrupted, this one is so hard to get back to and ringing phones, doorbells, and children's needs are sure to interrupt. However, since I can see how necessary it is I will put it into my daily routine starting today. However, I think I will add a caveat- Because I live in a country of paradise I am going to force myself to sit on my lovely porch and enjoy the birds and flowers outside! Thank you so much for your videos. I did fly lady about 15 years ago and boy do I have some stories to tell. However 15 years later and living in a foreign country and I have found creeping chaos and my house has become neglected. So, I am returning to the basics which helped me so many years ago.

Today is my day five. I have found your videos so very helpful in understanding the system.
I live in Japan with my husband's family. Just yesterday, my husband told me how impressed his father was that the sink is so shiny in the morning. This really pays off.
I am figuring out the shoes part of dress to shoes, because Japan has its own culture. I asked my husband what he imagines a high-class house wife in Japan wearing on her feet, and now I am going to get me the kind of footwear I need. Dressing up has helped a lot, but my normal bare feet makes me feel half-dressed. I used to play all the time outside in bare feet, so it just doesn't have the impact on me mentally. Socks don't work, either, so it is a pair of comfortable slip-on house shoes that won't leave mark on the floors and still adhere to the Japanese culture that I will purchase.
On the plus side, I have gained the habit of sitting by myself for 15 minutes and relaxing since last year, so that part is down :)
I have been looking ahead to prepare myself mentally (and sometimes get a room or a thing ready that hasn't seen love in a while). Can't wait for day 6. Unofficially started on it, but am waiting for the day to add it to my list.
Thank you again for these videos. They are so helpful.

I've always taken most of my time for myself--thus the messy house. Raised two lovely sons, and the house always came last. Now I am housebound due to illness, not old age, and I need a clean home to keep me sane and happy. Even still, most of my time has always been for myself, but I need to have a clean home since I never get leave it! And I can't do a lot at once, so "for fifteen minutes you can do anything," even me. I love LOVE your videos more than anyone's! You are such a good communicator, believable, and down to earth. Hi Diane,
I just have one problem. I get sidetracked very easily. When I take a break, and believe me I do.....it ends up that way for hours and before I know it, the housework isn't done, cooking isn't done .......
I get sucked into the internet and I just dismiss my timer
Would be great if you could guide me. I started watching your videos last week. I binge watched all 31 videos in one day and then realized how overwhelmed I was. So, I started over from day 1....And hanging in there

    • @Nyx773
      @Nyx773 5 років тому +4

To avoid dismissing my timer while I am on the internet, I don't use the timer on my phone or laptop. I set the timer on my stove. That forces me to get up to turn it off. Usually that is enough to bring me out of the hypnotic state and do something else.
I also will drink a lot of water, which will also force me to get up.
What I do with Diane's videos is watch only one video at a time, then go do that task.
e.g. Watch "Day 1", then shine my sinks. Then watch Day 3 and work on building my control journal for 15 minutes. etc.

I also bought the book and started reading. It fit good together.
I thought I need 5 minutes for me at home and I especially need 5 minutes for me (for example looking through the window) at work. I often don't give me the allowance to have a break for a minute. I need it so much.

I probably do sit with a cuppa and it would be rare for me to not read before bed...but I'm not thinking about it, it's autopilot, which means it doesn't feel like a treat, so I'm going to try and be more mindful...oh, there's that try word! As Yoda says...do or do not, there is no try!! I shall do better!! Thanks Diane xx

    • @DianeinDenmark

There is no specific or set time to do it, Kathy - just make sure you are taking a break "just for you" everyday. It's so easy to feel that we have to keep going all the time and we only end up getting tired and angry. When we take time for ourselves we are recharging our batteries.

Hi Diane! On day 5 and can see a difference in my kitchen and my attitude already! Can't believe it actually. May I ask what time you get to bed and wake up if that is not too personal. I am a nighthawk and find I don't normally go to bed early, but as all these other steps are making a difference, I am wondering if getting started earlier in the day and therefore having to get to bed earlier will help with my overall schedule. What do you think?

Because of a chronic illness I’m a lot at home. I have less energy than an average person and I have more time for myself. This is difficult to handle too. I never know ‘how many spoons’ I have in a day and it’s not easy to make a structure. Being tired and being bored can sometimes feel the same. And the structure of doing tiny things in 15 minutes will help me to do some things even on my very bad days. So, in the better days I can enjoy them more because there is not so much work I have to do than.

I don't understand why not to wear flip flops. I live in Florida. That is about all we wear. Flip flops or sandals. When I go outside, I wear crocks because we have chickens that free range and poo everywhere. In the winter, I wear sneakers in the evening to go outside. It's just too hot to wear them during the daytime in the summer.

    • @Nyx773

I would make sure that the soles of the sandals have good structure, including arch support and cushion.
Almost all flip flops are bad for the feet (and knees and back), ask any podiatrist.
Good support leads to less fatigue and more accomplished.
