Alvin reminds me of a squirrel I rescued and rehabbed as a kid, some 50 years ago. Long before the INTERNET made info readily accessible, I relied on (old) library books and my own "common" sense to take care of her. Thankfully, it worked out well. The following years, she would bring her babies to me for food and socializing. Such a rewarding experience!
To the people wondering why Alvin wasn't released in the wild. He is too imprinted on humans, which means he does not fear them and probably wouldn't be able to find food on his own since he's always been provided it. A huge reason would be his lack of fear of dogs and cats. Even though it's sad that he can't be a wild squirrel. He is truly living the best life with a woman who cares so deeply for him.
I'm not so sure about that. I rescued a runt squirrel off the highway, raised him to 14 months, and then transitioned his cage outside. After a couple weeks I just left his cage door open. Not long after that he moved all his bedding out and presumably up a nearby tree. We saw him often, and he even ended up with a lady squirrel. (We knew it was him because his tail never filled out entirely and he had a chewed left ear, he stuck out like a sore thumb) He had lots of human and dog interaction while he was with us, preferring to hang out on my shoulder or in my shirt pocket. Once he was free, he didn't seem to want much to do with us, and would scurry away if approached, just like any normal squirrel. Instinct is a heck of a thing. 99 times out of 100 it'll kick in and the animal will just go and figure it out.
I honestly think that when people release animals that they’ve reared at home, it’s cruel. Any animal would choose not feeling fear or hunger and enjoying belonging to their family of humans, should that be what they are used to.
Hi Cynthia, To all the folks commenting, Cynthia is an incredible and amazing person who takes care and rehabs many many Squirrels 🐿️ and wildlife . Cynthia and her family are incredible and loving people that make this world 🌎 so very special.🐿️❤️🐈🙏👍🐕 🐀
Thanks for sharing this Robert. I live in a rural area and have squirrels in my yard. I quite love them. God Bless Cynthia and the dear lady who rescued him and gave him to Cynthia. Love the name Alvin....that funny little chipmunk!
Alvin has a perfect mom and a wonderful family. The fact that animals live shorter lives in "the wild" says something about that experience. . I think city animals have different challenges than forest animals. There was a time when we had choices. To a great extent those times are gone. I'm glad Alvin can enjoy his family.
He's an agile little so-and-so. Squirrels are amazing. A friend showed me how to make their mating sound. It works -- a squirrel will suddenly stop what he's doing and look around. It gets old after a while
Alvin has the best mom with a loving and caring heart. I can vouch for the hundreds of squirrels she rehabs and releases. She has compassion for all animals. :) Love ya Ms. C
You were the perfect person to receive the squirrel as a pet. You do a fantastic job ! What a great life you’re giving that squirrel ! Your squirrel, anybody can see, loves you so much and you love him so much! A great match. You’re giving a lot of attention to this squirrel and probably your other animals as well! You have a wonderful animal daycare! ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
Alvin is adorable. But I do agree with his mom that squirrels don't make good pets. He is too imprinted on humans and would probably die if released. I am just glad that you provide him with a great home and that you give him lots of attention and love.
Wow, I didn't know that squirrels could live so long in captivity. What you are doing for Alvin is amazing and inspiring. Blless your wonderful heart for giving him such a loving home. He's very cute and adorable. Thank you for sharing his sweet story. ❤❤
My Roscoe P Coltrane lived 21 years and I can confirm they are expensive to take care of but well worth every penny. When he was a baby we had a tornado and the nest blew away, I found Roscoe on our front porch on the chair swing. From them on him and I where pretty much unseparable
They love avocado. They can't have the skin. Blueberries. Head minds since 2015. She lost half her tail with is how they communicate. I have five cats and Pitbull Dalmatian mix. All of them play together.
Alvin is just beyond adorable!! I'm so happy for him that he has such a rich & loving life in captivity, being that he can't be released. And, how lucky is this lady?!! Thank you for sharing your (& Alvin's!) story 😍😍😍❤❤❤
This is how we humans should treat the animals we share the world with. Bless all those who passion and calling is to protect, help, support, rehab, doctor, love the world animals
🤧 aww he's so gorgeous, bless you for taking him on and giving him a terrific forever home with fur siblings. Cracking good video thanks for sharing 🖤😎👍
i know my neighbors dont like squirrels but i love them and used to feed them much to the chagrin of my neighbors.....i think the squirrels talked and came from all over.
There's a list of reasons why feeding squirrels is bad for them. It sounds like your neighbors explained why, and you decided doing what's best for you was more important than doing what's best for the animals. :/
@@Prism_ism my neighbors did not have a conversation about it...if anyone had spoken to me then i would have taken that into consideration...this was a long time ago before the age of enlightenment of feeding wildlife or not as the case may be. if someone had talked with me i would have listened cos i dont like annoying ppl
I rescued a baby squirrel that was laying lifeless at the trunk of a tree and he crawled right into my hands and i nursed him back to health throughout thw fall and winter and he was affectionate and playful but when spring came around and his hormones started kicking in i started to let him outside for the day and he would come back before it got dark and sleep in his nest in a box in my closet but then he started staying outside for two or three days and then this past May he left our house for good but he still comes by every once in a while and still knows who I am and he's got a mate now too.
This was so nice and I have watched some other videos of squirrel rescues that were very much like this one and the focus was always to let the squirrel live as much in the outdoors when they wanted to but always have a place indoors and a big cage for them connected to or very near the house until it was time for their release or not.
Alvin doesn't seem to be a typical squirrel. This makes me love squirrels even more. When she was trying to kiss him an he stopped her with his hand, I thought, this guy has some cat behaviors too.
Cohabiting with predators is always something people should never do with rodents. (Cats, most often.) That being said- Alvin and his mom are the sweetest thing ever

I love that!! Real research; what a concept, right?
What was her name ?😊
U are one lucky person ❤❤❤
Bless you 💖!
Once in a lifetime experience.
You and Alvin were, are special.
Realize gone now, still . . .
Lucky squirrel to find such a loving Mom!
What a wonderful squirrel mom. Just adorable.
The hardest thing about squirrels is their intelligence. You have to stay on step ahead!😊
Oh, what a sweet, precious, unconventional baby. I'm so glad he has such a loving home.

What an amazing little guy.
I had no idea squirrels lived that long. It's a good thing cuz you're very attached to him.
Alvin puts his paws up on her face as if to say no...😅
My cat does the same 😊
Wow what an honor to experience this. Enjoy him ❤
What a lucky boy to find such an awesome forever home.

This precious squirrel says "I don't want to live in the wild, I want to live a life filled with love with my 'hooman'."
Alvin: Mooooom! No kissies while the phone is filming me. It makes me feel embarrassed. I'll give one later before bed! 🥰🐒

Again, I hesitated, watching a video about a squirrel, and again I was wrong! This was a great video!
😍
Squirrels will catch off guard and make you fall in love with them 😂

Where I am from we didn’t have squirrels 🐿️ so I was 21 the first time I saw one. I was fascinated 😍😍😍😍
I was today years old when I learned "indoor" squirrels can live 18-20 years. 🤷 🐱
Himbs too cute! 🥰😭😄🫠🫠

How do squirrels do on the mirror test?
Sweet.
May you both enjoy each other’s company for a very long time.
Does he ever bite?
Thank you.
Alvin the squirrel 🐿 ❤❤
So funny how everytime she tried to kiss him he would put his foot on her lips like "nope" .. then in the end she snuck one on him sideways 😂
Huh. I was not expecting that 18-20 years lifespan in captivity. TIL

Aaaand... cue the start of squirrel self-domestication. At least if he were a female. Were she a female, she'd probably have her own little ones, and raise them to be friendly to humans just like she is.
I love seeing animals happy, and Alvin is right where he's the happiest he can be.
Alvin knows what's up!
Meanwhile here I am fighting with squirrels chewing up the roof of my house.
