I just bought my son a baby Guinea pig for Christmas without doing any research. I had an old used standard size pet store cage leftover from my stepdaughter, along with many supplies that my chinchillas were not using. My chin’s dietary needs are somewhat the same as Guinea pigs except they don’t eat vegetables. That afternoon I started doing research. I found Saskia’s channel and you. I immediately went back and adopted a second Guinea pig that night, which was before I knew how bad shopping was compared to adopting . Here we are a few weeks later and thanks to you a lot has changed. They are temporarily in an 8 square foot cage while my husband builds them a custom cage. They have been to an exotic vet to treat their upper respiratory infections. Also, they have my love and adoration because in my 45 years I never realized just how stinkin cute piggies are. I have named them Honey, Bee. These are not easy first time pets. I have three allergy prone shar-peis, a three legged Rottweiler and a pit bull who require way less attention. In fact, the piggies are housed next to my desk so I can interact with them all day. They are officially mom’s babies as I have officially hijacked them from my son 😂😂. All this to say without your help Scotty my two piggies would still be in a small cage, with a not so great diet and still sick because I thought the sneezing was allergies. You have made a huge difference in my piggies lives, so thank you!!!!!!
This is so lovely to read! My 2 were for my daughter and I...she moved out and left them with me. Nearly 5 years later I am obsessed w8th them, they're totally spoilt. I have also been a piggie Foster mum for 2 years so my house is completely taken over with cages HA HA. I hope u have so much love and joy from them ❤❤xx
Now that's what I'm talking about!! Great work piggy-moms!! I'm fairly new at this and I've become a true guinea pig nut! I've learned so much from Scotty, and Saskia... Can't imagine managing this piggy undertaking without their wonderful knowledge sharing and fun videos and Live events!
Thank you for sharing this, we are all on a learning journey with these sweet little piggies. In regards to the husband's custom cage, I will always recommend C&C cages because they are easy to modify, inexpensive and especially they are lightweight. Don't spend too much on heavy materials that make it difficult to clean and move or modify. Everyone wants to get creative with the cages, but C&C cages are extremely flexible.
You put a lot of effort into this and I’m sorry it didn’t work out for you and the piggie. You’re still making a difference and having a positive impact on on these little ones. If these animals could talk, they’d thank you endlessly and tell you how important you are in the rescue world. ❤️🐾
You work so hard and you help so many. Videos like yours on proper care are more available than ever. The adopter may see one and decide to give all their piggies better care because of it. And then they may pass that info on to even more piggie owners. You don’t see the true impact of all the good you do. ❤
I am guilty of buying a pet store cage at ffirst. I did more research and came across videos like these and fixed it real quick! They now have a 2x16 cage for 6 girls and the bottom of the old cage is now thier hay box 😂
Please don't beat yourself up Scott. You do so much for the animal rescue community. You can only do so much. You can't control what others do. Your info that you provide is invaluable. ❤🐹
I'm so sorry you weren't able to pick up the skinny pig, but I hope my comment is encouraging. Ever heard of the starfish story? It's a story about an old man who encounters a young boy walking on the beach. The boy is throwing starfish back in the ocean after they get washed up on the shore. The old man tells him there's so many starfish washing up on the shore that he can't possibly make a difference. The little boy looks at him, picks up a starfish, and throws it into the ocean while telling the old man "I made a difference to that one!". This is a story that's been comforting to me whenever I come across situations like this. I can't save all the guinea pigs (and it doesn't mean I shouldn't try), but I can work to make a difference in the lives of my guinea pigs and spread awareness for the better of the guinea pigs I can't directly save. You're making a difference, way more than you probably realize.
That is a wonderful story! I told my daughter something similar when our very first piggy died after being with us for a month. We were all devastated by his death, because we loved him dearly. I told her at least he knew love and affection for the month that we had him, and he didn't die in that awful pet store.
Scottie I got given a pair of Guinea pigs from a workmate that got given them by their friends. I held onto them because I had the capability but I never truly understood and loved them. Once I came across your videos I couldn’t stop binge watching them. Your passion and love for Guinea pigs is real and it sparked a passion in myself. Now I have a great relationship with my piggies. They run up to me when I come to their enclosure and I can give them head scratches. We love cuddling together and I’ve really enjoyed getting to know them. I love and understand Guinea pigs more than ever and last year became a fosterer for neglected and abused Guinea pigs for my local rescue. This would’ve never happened without you sharing your passion and knowledge. Thank you for what you do and please never stop ❤️
Ppl like you and saskia helped me learn more about my piggies and i thank you for that! They are spoiled rotten now and have a huge cage and thats the way it should be!
They most certainly are NOT low maintenance! We did tons of research before we got our wee piggies; five years later I can 100% say they are tons and tons of work. It is soooooo worth it! :)
We're all proud of you no matter what, Scott ❤ It's natural to feel guilt even when we know the situation wasn't our fault and that we did all we could, but try not to beat yourself up ok ❤️🩹 So many piggies are alive today because of you
Piggies need you to have the time to spend with them. You want a pet? Love it!❤ Dont leave it alone all day by itself get it a friend. We all could be less lonely ❤
Scotty I feel so bad for what you’ve been through with this little skinny pig 😢 you always try your best, you go above and beyond for all the piggies - you are amazing at what you do and hopefully the shelters will start to listen to you
Keep it up Scotty! You are a great advocate for the guinea pigs. It’s tough when you cannot save them all but look at all the ones you were able to save.
Scotty... man I wish the animals of this world had more humans that cared for them like you.. it would be a much better place to be bud. Keep up the good work Sir.
Scott the reason you let yourself get wrapped up into these kind of situations is simply this. You have a heart and the fire for these animals you love these animals you care about them. You don't want to see them in any pain or hurting. You just want them to be happy and healthy and to find a good home. That is a reason you let yourself get wrapped up into these situations. You care. And that's not a bad thing.
You are a great person Scott, you help so many piggies. Sometimes, we can't save them all which is heartbreaking. Unless someone will really clean an appropriate cage in school and feed them on time, it is not a good idea to put them in classroom!
You tried your very best brother! I pray that all shelters are forced to learn and research proper care for all the animals that they have. It is selfish and evil to not give animals the best of the best care that we can. Bless your big heart Scotty! We all love that you love animals especially piggies 😇🥰❤❤
Scotty it's the same over the world. Don't be sad. YOU did what u can. The next Piggie will be thankful for your help. It's hard that not every Piggie can be rescued. I'm a bit worried about you. To be a Hero and that's what the People at the Rescues all are, is a hard and often thankless Job. You can only do what you can and not always win unfortunately. Think about all your successful Cases u had. And who knows maybe the Piggie come back and you have a new Chance. Or the Shelter learn one Day about it. Please take Care of you. Don't forget yourself about it and I know who has Guinea Pigs has not really Vacations. But maybe you can have some for a few Days to get new Energy for your Pigs and next next ones who's waiting for your Help. Or take Rest for a few Hours. Play Guitar with a good Friends and ride a Harley maybe😉 Do u know the Video on TikTok where a Owner cry very loud. U can see Piggies who run in a Carrier Box. And a Comment: When I want go in Vacations and the Pigs are happy to go to the Forster care for this Time. 😅 I laughted. And I' m actually still sad bc of my loss. Maybe this gives u a Smile too for a Moment. Bc I think every loving Piggie Parent know what meant in this Video lol. And I got a little Healing Process when I write this for myself. That are Advices I should give myself bc of the Losses. I always ask myself why and what didn't I see what did I do better for more Lifetime for the Pigs. I beat myself very hard mostly and recognize I did what I can and I still learn I can't help always. And that's in the Rescue the same. You can only try what is possible. Sometimes it seems it shouldn't be😢 but u are a smart Man. You know that. Please stay positive, ok
Your efforts to save animals truly make a difference, even if things don't always go as planned. The compassion and dedication you show inspire others to care as well. Sometimes we can't save them all, but every attempt matters and leaves a positive impact. Don't lose heart. You're making the world a kinder place, one life at a time.
Scotty, all hope is not lost, yet! You could ask the shelter to follow up with the new adopter and have them provide your contact info to them asking that they communicate with you about providing optimal care for Mitch. It may cost a bit out of pocket but you may be able to help. Even better would be if the shelter were to contact the adopter and advise them that you would like to help ensure the best life for her new adoptee (in whatever form that may take) and they could ask if they could share her information with you so that you can get in contact. You could sweeten the attempt by offering (again it will cost you) an adoption care package that might include a proper sized C&C cage, hay, pellets, water bottle, fleece, etc. People tend to be more open to suggestion if they think they are getting something for being open. I am heart broken as well but where there is a will.....❤
I'm so sorry, Scott. This is so frustrating. I'm gonna say "Don't be so hard on yourself," but I know that's not how you, I, or anyone who watches your channel actually works. You did your best and went out of your way to travel to the shelter and back *twice*, because you care that much. You have touched many lives and I know you'll touch many more.
The hardest part of what you do is that you cant save them all. To keep an open heart to those you can recieve, that doesnt close against those you cant. You see their fate as well. Or worse, imagine it. Its Epic. There is no more formidable struggle in human existance than this, and only those with the strongest souls, or who can grow one, can stay in it and stay intact.
I'm sorry you tried❤ I hope the adopters reach out for help if the new piggy doesn't adjust. Keep up the good work❤ we know you always try to do the best for animals & their care❤
I am a middle school teacher who abhors classroom pets! I have purchased upgraded houses for many classroom pets in other classrooms. A few years ago, my students begged for a classroom pet so I purchased island cockroaches. These are the most amazing pets to have in a classroom. The kids could hold them while they did their math and science and I can keep them in a container that is sufficient for them and does not limit their life quality.
Oh Scotty....you tried so hard. This piggie touched me cuz he's a skinny and his name is Mitch. Jupi and I will be sending prayers out for the best outcome. I am worried, as you, about a 3 way boy bonding, tho i had one with a skinny. but you always worry about how easily the skinnies can be injured....sheesh, I use a dremel to smooth Jupis nails after a trim so he doesn't scratch himself!!!🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏 you tried, sweetie...now we just pray.
I am so sorry you weren't able to rescue that piggie. I hope it works out better than we expect for the little guy's sake. You went above and beyond on this one. Stay encouraged, and help the ones you can today. Hugs!
I think you’re doing a great job. It’s heartbreaking but you tried. That’s all you can do. My daughter has two female piggies . She got them at 8 weeks old and they’re 5 yrears old now and doing great. She turned me on to watching you. She loves your channel. Thank you for all you do.🙏🥰
Here is some encouragement for you. I adopted a single boy and took the chance that I could bond him with the pair of boys I already had and you know what? It worked! They fuss but they never fight. I wish I could leave a photo of my three amigos because they are so cute. It might be rare to have three boys live together but it is possible.
I can see the disappointment and frustration in your face, I'm so sorry. I was thinking maybe, just maybe you could give your phone # to the shelter to offer to the people that if things don't work out to please give you a call... usually when people see a post like this on FB or elsewhere like that it is an impulse "buy" or adoption and they very soon loose the desperate need they initially feel. With a bit of prayer from all of us maybe they just might reach out to you... Yes, give them your phone # and your youtube channel info so they can see what good care looks like and either try and provide it or decide he's better off with you. Big hugs, chin up you are fighting a good fight!!❤
Scotty, you have no idea how my heart is breaking for you and that piggie. But hopefully they will call you next time so that it doesn't happen again. On another note, I started out with my first piggie almost 8 years ago. She was 3 and due to bad sexing of other piggies, she had 3 back to back litters before I found her for free at a garage sale. I knew nothing about piggies. But I knew she needed a loving home. So after I failed at buying her a pet store cage, I stumbled across you and Saskia's UA-cam pages and dove in head first. I learned she needed a friend so I adopted a baby and bonded them successfully! I learned what they should and shouldn't be eating and soon 2 more piggies found their way into my home. I was in love with all 4 of my girls who quickly had my living room turn into their home. I kept watching your videos and built them a huge c&c cage, found out how to see their cage liners to get out of using paper bedding, and eventually had another piggie that needed a home come join the herd. My girls were happy, healthy and such a joy for many years because of what you taught me. You do so much good that you have no idea about. I currently have lost all of my piggies and I miss them every day. Unfortunately my situation has changed and I'm not able to care for piggies anymore due to my health. But I still watch your videos to keep seeing the difference you are making out there! Keep your chin up!
Thank you so much for sharing this. I'm grateful for your kind words, support and that you would share your story here. I wish you nothing but the best, health happiness and love.
I’m so sorry Scotty. I had 11 Guinea pigs 6 months ago. I had 3 mommas and a daddy. Two mommas had 3 babies and one had four. We had what we thought were four girls, but one was a boy and that is what led to our babies. We have a large home, and a wonderful Guinea pig veterinary clinic, I grew up on a small farm, we gave away 6 babies in pairs, and kept 4 babies. They were all born within the same week, during Covid. Our four kids were home from school, they were in their teenage years, and it was a wonderful experience for our kids and our entire family. Sadly, in the last 6 months, we lost 6 of our guinea pigs. Four of them died before age 5, so earlier than we expected. They had huge cages with plenty of toys, hay, water, pellets, fresh vegetables daily, and the vitamin C recommended by the LA Guinea Pig rescue. We played with all of them every day in the Guinea Pig room. Now, we have adorable coffins with 6 sets of ashes inside, each of the Guinea Pigs we lost, however, I am still heartbroken. My heart and prayers go out to you Scotty, I know how wonderful these animals are, and I feel your pain.
So sorry you couldn't save this one. You just can't save them all and you have made so much difference to so many piggies lives and I admire you for that. You did your best and that is all anyone can ask of you. Unfortunately you have no power over other people's actions. Just keep doing what you are doing and educate as many as you can. If you throw enough dirt at a wall some will eventually stick, lol. not that your advice is dirt, but I think you get what I mean. ♥♥♥
You did what you did in the end we are only human and we can't save them all :( . Scotty don't beat yourself up. There's a saying if Miss one you can still save 100 so don't hurt yourself over this one. Miss. There's other guinea pigs out there that need people like you so don't give up Scotty
Awww Scotty my heart hurts for you. I can feel your disappointment and the pain you're feeling worrying about little Mitch. You are truly the kindest, sweetest and most caring man. I wish everyone could have the love and compassion for animals like you Scotty....this world would be a better place. Sorry you just missed out rescuing this little fella. You did everything you could Scotty xxx 16:33
You did everything you could, Scotty. You keep fighting the good fight. Hopefully the people who rescued him will do some research and see your work and be inspired to give him a better life and give him the care that he needs. That's all you can hope for.
It is extremely hard when difficult situations like this happens and feeling very upset shows how much love and care you have for him, put that love and care into the next Piggie that can be helped, with volunteering, helping Piggies and having your own there is always a next 1 that needs your love and care, put that energy into them and help them, you can't save them all but you can learn from certain situations and/or know that you did everything you could do to do right by that Piggie
I know exactly how you feel and it's heartbreaking when you can't save them all. I can't tell you all the nights I didn't sleep due to situations just like this one. When rescuing fails, I blame myself, I know I shouldn't, but it kills me to think of an innocent piggy that is not going to be cared for properly or is going to be living in substandard conditions because people just won't do any research into the proper care of Guinea Pigs. As bad as it makes me feel, we have to keep trying to save these little souls, knowing that the situation is not going to change any time soon, if ever. The only thing we can do is our best and hope for a positive outcome. You did your best, Scotty that's all you can do. I know I'm obsessed with trying to save every piggy that I can and take it very hard if it fails. Thank you Scotty for doing everything you can possibly do to save these little souls.
People like Scotty and you, I don't think you actually realise the true impact you have. I tell everyone who loves animals, or has piggies, about Scotty, his, website and yt channel. I'm *just one person. My friend is also a big fan of his, and tells her friends about Scotty, and teaches her grandchildren about the kindness and proper way to treat animals. Plus she educates them on guinea pig care, and shows them his videos. You wonderful people don't just inspire and influence us to do our best, but younger generations, people around the world, even petshops workers, begin to take an interest in you. You all make such a huge difference, for generations, and you might not realise it! ❤
Scotty I think without watching your videos for the past few years, I wouldnt have gotten the heart to adopt more piggies. I wear my heart dangling off my sleeve when it comes to my animals, so in the past when they eventually pass away it really affects me deeply as I love these little critters with my whole heart and soul. Your channel inspired me not to only get more guinea pigs and open my heart again, but to do it the RIGHT way this time. With your instructions I built my piggies a massive 21 square foot C&C cage. And when my newly adopted guinea pigs started exhibiting symptoms of hay mites I was able to diagnose and treat them for it using oral Ivermectin at Saskia's advice. Because of YOU, my Nugget and Jasper are thriving and such spoiled guys. You made me realize not only how to properly care for piggies but how to spoil them rotten. If they could talk they would thank you for all that you do for guinea pigs. I was thinking maybe you should have a small pamphlet / brochure made explaining proper guinea pig care. That way you can send it to these shelters through email, or through snail mail and suggest to them that they give the brochure to every adoptee of guinea pigs that comes through their shelters. Because youre right, people are so misinformed. I was misinformed too when I had guinea pigs I kept them in those awful petstore cages because I didn't know any better. People need your information badly!! Youve saved and massively improved the lives of countless guinea pigs with just the information you give.
So many more new owners are waking up to all the good advice out there and you are the best your videos WILL BE SEEN and if not by Mitch's folks then by many many others who will learn from you Scotty just like i did and still do
I learned my lesson the hard way, trying to bond one bonded pair to my existing bonded pair. I thought they would be one big happy herd. Not only did the new pair not bond with my existing pair, but my existing pair's bond started breaking down. Now, I have a condo cage where each pair has their own space. Words of encouragement, Scotty: Many of us not so educated piggie owners starting out, want the best for our pets when we realize we don't know what we're doing, and we reach out and find people like you, and we get educated, and do better by our piggies.
Those people need to be put in tiny rooms to see what it's like to like in small cramped areas. I try and free roam my pets Rabbits and guinea pigs or give a large gate in area to run around all day in. I made hamsters cage out of 6 ft long containers with wire lids so they had room to run because they need to run not climb in tubes.. This is just heartbreaking. I'm glad there are people like you out there trying to educate people.
Oh Scotty, I hear and see your pain. I am so sorry this did not go well. But maybe, just maybe they will decide they do not want him and bring him back to the shelter. And hopefully if this happens, the shelter will reach out to you. Scotty you are one of the most caring individuals I have ever known. If it weren't for you, my girls would not be having the great life they are leading. My heart hurts for you but I look at all the piggies YOU have saved and am so thankful, as are all the piggie owners that follow you. Unfortunately there are always going to be people like the ones who adopted the skinny. Just hang in there. And know you are needed! Keep up your great work! 💕
Does that shelter profit from adopting them out? If so, there lies one of the main roadblocks of them learning the correct care and who should/shouldn’t adopt guinea pigs (or other animals). You have such a wonderful caring heart. ♥️
They have never charged me, and I pull specifically in association with a nonprofit rescue. But I do not believe Mitch had an adoption fee. To be clear, I believe everyone that works there has the utmost integrity and concern for the animals, They are a city run shelter it is not for profit.
As much as we can try and save them all, it sadly isn't possible to save all of them. All we can do is put in our best effort, which you clearly have done.
When I inquired about adopting a guinea pig from a local rescue a few years ago, the foster told me that she had rescued him from a shelter in New Jersey that had him and three other pigs that he constantly fought with in a cage the size of a cat carrier, and they were feeding them and several just as neglected rabbits cat food. She'd come in to look at some of their rabbits to help relieve them of crowding and when she saw that, she ended up leaving with twelve rabbits and all four guinea pigs. I ended up having the adoption approved and went home with him because my pig ended up being the only one out of I think she said nine other pigs that they tried to pair him with where they didn't immediately try to rip each other apart. He got lucky that I found him when I did. They were absolutely a perfect match for each other and I miss them both terribly.
@ScottysAnimals You are more than welcome! We go to mediation Monday with our insurance company and praying they see the light and give us some money. And then I can send a little more! 🎉🎉
I’ve worked in animal rescue for 60 years and it can be a thankless task with other humans. I feel for you but please don’t give up! We move on to the next opportunity to make a difference, even if it’s only potato sized 🤗
I'm so sorry you weren't able to save him. I wish you could have. I'm glad to see how much you care for these little animals, and make sure they all get great homes they deserve.
We don't know what's going to happen with that skinny pig. The person may realize that they don't want to clean two cages and surrender him back to the shelter, or they may try to sell him on craigslist, or wherever. I hope the rescue put a fee on adopting him because alot of people troll sites like craigslist, looking for things, including animals, that are not expensive and turn around and sell for a lot more money. I think that you are wonderful for trying to save him. 💙🐹
You get wrapped up in each individual life because you are compassionate, it's who you are. It does sound extremely frustrating, and you must face these situations so much. The way you've helped so many, many people and animals, we're here because we care. Every time when I see people who have piggies on social media, I direct them to you and LAGPR. It happens more than I can remember. I'm not the only one who shares your channel, etsy shop and website. Even those with red eyed rabbits and rats I've mentioned there's a great song by you on yt. You're having this affect on so many people in such a positive way, and I know it's slow progress, but your ripples will become waves. Every animal deserves to have proper care and real love, it's sad that this isn't always the case. It's even more so for you because you put yourself out there, and that's not nothing. Scott, that's everything! Thankyou for always trying, thankyou for always caring for every individual. I'm deeply sorry that this didn't go well. We all love you. I always write really long paragraphs when I'm here, there's so many great things about you to say! ❤
Thank you for your message, and the Love and caring way you try to do the best you can. I'm so sorry for that little Piggy. God Bless you for all you do ❤❤❤❤❤
So sorry to hear. I adopted a guinea pig last Summer from the shelter to bond with my girl who lost her friend. They live in a 16 square foot Guineadad fleece lined cage and I just spent $800 at the vet testing them for possible UTI's from excess sludge. Words of encouragement, I can only think to say is sometimes the shelter pigs end up in really good situations, and at least he didn't go to the office. If nothing else the person seemed to care about guinea pigs. But I agree totally, they are not starter pets and that is why there are so many abandoned!!
You did your best and that is all you can do. It is very frustrating. As a skinny pig mom I can say they definitely require special care, eat almost twice as much (and poops twice as much). They are a big commitment. Also frustrating is our skinny pig Luna has been the most social (and vocal) of all our guinea pigs over the years. No human visiter is a stranger to our precious little bald alien piggy (no one is permitted to pick up our piggies-only pets or a snack is permitted from guests). She boldly runs up to everyone. Her haired sister is more aloof with strangers. We have them in our great room in a raised C & C cage. They are the center of our world. I cannot imagine any piggies in an office setting with no access to fresh veggies, barely any attention and stuck in a tiny cage. Unthinkable.
Thank you so much for caring and trying so darned hard to save Mitch. The best we can hope for is that you can somehow someday save Mitch from a life of misery by the people figuring it out that he needs to go to a different home and you snatch him up. There are good days, Scotty. Days like when you show funny videos with gorgeous Grape and the nutty shenanigans on Gizmo's Gotcha day. There are good days, and you will know when you look in Pippy's eyes. There will be bad ones, unfortunately, but as long as you are on this earth, there will be good days. You have a heart of gold and you are an angel on earth. The way you care for all animals and your patience and compassion and pure soul show that there is good in the world. I truly love and adore you Scotty. Even when you are mad and on a rant (righteously). You are a special soul and your piggies at home show us. Please go home and hug all your nutty pigs and BiBi. They know that you love them - you are the bringer of hay.
You still rock! All we guinea pig enthusiasts can do is promote proper care as much as possible. 😊 I believe it's called "modeling". Which you do excellently with every youtube post. The work continues.
I'm so sorry, Scotty!! Is there any way you can reach out to the shelter and have them send a friendly email to the girl that bought Mitch and see how he's doing with the other pigs or if he's in a cage by himself next to them? Sounds like she really wanted the three of them to be together and since there's a good chance that all three wouldn't get along and she had to separate them, it might not be very ideal for her. So I was thinking they could send her an email to say that there was somebody that really had their heart set on Mitch and me too long trips out there to get him, but was too late. So just ask her if it's not working out with him and her other piggies, then he would have a very loving home with you. As you know, a lot of people will adopt and then a few days later or shortly after change their mind and want to bring them back where they got them, it's definitely worth a try! Last April I was trying to find a younger male for a friend of one of my boys and I totally fell in love with this one male but he looked to be a little bit older, so I didn't know if they would get along. I couldn't stop thinking about him. He had what it looked like a little piece of orange and his ball and something told me..... what if a family with kids adopts him and they never know to give him any veggies or his piece of orange and he never has them again after this .. . uuuuuggghh. I waited a few days and then I rushed back there to get him and he was gone! I cried my eyes out the whole way home and was so mad at myself for not getting him when I could. Something kept on telling me me to call that place and ask them if somebody adopted him. I thought that would be a strange call to make but I couldn't get this weird feeling out of my head to just call. Well sure enough the lady that adopted him and his friend changed her mind and brought them back a few days later and they were ready for me to take them home! I still can't believe how my intuition and something in this universe flat out told me what to do and I'm getting the same feeling to tell you. So I hope and pray maybe you could try this?! I know I told you this story before. Anyways, you really tried hard to get this cute little guy and I am just I'm getting a feeling like that girl might change her mind about it and if she knows she can bring him back to give him to you, then everything would work out fine. Sending big hugs, I sure know how you felt when you left that place.
You are so right about uneducated people not knowing about the pets they choose. I'm not meaning that the people are uneducated in other ways. Please don't take that statement wrong. When I was young, I had pets that I didn't know enough about. When I lost my pet unnecessarily, it broke my heart and it still makes me sad. After that, I researched any animal I got, and checked with my vet to know how to care for my pet of choice. 😢
I researched before I got my guinea. She was a re-home from a private party. She's healthy and happy girl. Her cage is 2x5 grid panel. I still think I need to go bigger.
Maybe you can reach out to this person online or in person and educate them. Maybe someone sends them your video. At least they know guinea pigs shouldn't live alone
I'd love to give them the benefit of the doubt. But if they think adding a skinny pig to already bonded pair of boys is a good idea who knows what else they are wrong about
I am amazed at the lengths that you go! You are making a difference & I commend you for that. You have done the very best that you can. Hopefully the person that took the piggy will see any of your videos & do the right thing. You rock, dude!
Keep a close eye on the shelters posts, in a cage that small, poop and smell is going to build up so fast with a skinny and they might get fed up of cleaning, or he will probably end up injured from the other 2, and he may well end up being returned in the next few weeks. If you can, let the shelter know you want to be notified immediately if he comes back.
Sometimes people don't think of the overall happiness of a pet. They dont imagine how they would feel if they were alone in a tank or in a cage by themselves and so if you dont have the money to afford your pets happiness and well-being then save up til you can.
I’m so sorry Scotty; you do so much good with you channel. I hope you can find some solace in that - but I have some idea how hard it is to miss a rescue. I hope this time that the shelter has taken your words on board an will come to you first next time. Hugs from Vancouver, BC, Canada!
I saw the comments on that post and some pictures from the family that got mitch. The 2 boars they already have appear to be very young. I know they've said the 3 are currently getting along for now, but did you ever reach out to them any further, or were they somewhat decently knowledgeable or receptive to your guidance for information? Their pictures didn't show the full cage, but i could tell it was one with a hard plastic bottom. I hope they look into the correct information and cage them appropriately, especially if the bonds break as those babies grow older.
Aw I’m so sorry. I can’t wait the video rn, but judging on the thumbnail and title, I’m guessing you lost a baby. :( I just lost my 8th piggy within the last 12 months. I adopted all of my piggies in 2018/2019, not putting thought into, oh I’m getting them all at the same time - that means they’ll all age alongside of each other and potentially pass around the same time. It hasn’t gotten any easier, but knowing they lived full lives filled with love/care/comfort, and I provided all that I could to them medically, and especially when I’m able to ensure a peaceful transition, it softens the blow of the loss for sure. I have no doubt your babies receive all of the above from you as well, so I hope you find comfort within that aspect. Sending you all of my love!
I m so sorry for you. I lost my two a few weeks ago. They Was in different ages and from different places but had the same genetic issues. I m still heartbroken and shocked about and can't imagine how u feel for 8. That's so hard. 😢 do u have some right now?
Not related to video: But we just had to put one of our piggies down last night because he couldn’t recover from anesthesia. We are worried about our other piggie (who is dealing with his own crisis!) we dont know the best plan of action. Im mad at the vet for sending our zoomie home when he was non responsive. It is hard to find the best vets for guinea pigs. I have been everything I have been to help my 2 boys. The living piggie is dealing with an abscess that burst open. The one that passed had dental surgery. 😢
Thank you for sharing with us. This is unfortunately a very common thing.
🎉😊🎉@@ScottysAnimals
You put a lot of effort into this and I’m sorry it didn’t work out for you and the piggie. You’re still making a difference and having a positive impact on on these little ones. If these animals could talk, they’d thank you endlessly and tell you how important you are in the rescue world. ❤️🐾
Thank you Robert! Your support means so much to me. I'm looking at the mallet you gave me.
You work so hard and you help so many. Videos like yours on proper care are more available than ever. The adopter may see one and decide to give all their piggies better care because of it. And then they may pass that info on to even more piggie owners. You don’t see the true impact of all the good you do. ❤
Thank you for saying that
I am guilty of buying a pet store cage at ffirst. I did more research and came across videos like these and fixed it real quick! They now have a 2x16 cage for 6 girls and the bottom of the old cage is now thier hay box 😂
He's helped me over in the UK tonnes with my furbabies❤
Please don't beat yourself up Scott. You do so much for the animal rescue community. You can only do so much. You can't control what others do. Your info that you provide is invaluable. ❤🐹
Remember you're just one human being, you can't save everyone. I really hope the person who adopted him does more research.
Don't ever stop caring, Scotty. That's what makes you so AWESOME at what you do. 🥰🥰🥰❤️❤️❤️
Ppl like you and saskia helped me learn more about my piggies and i thank you for that! They are spoiled rotten now and have a huge cage and thats the way it should be!
You always do everything you can Scotty🥹❤️, thank you for being there 🙏🏻🙏🏻❤️❤️❤️
They most certainly are NOT low maintenance! We did tons of research before we got our wee piggies; five years later I can 100% say they are tons and tons of work. It is soooooo worth it! :)
You always do what you can. You can't do any more 💔 Stay strong 💪❤️🫂🙏
No Scotty, God will make it so you find him , and will get him back!!!!❤️💕💕
So sad, lets hope they return him and you get a second chance ❤
When one door closes another window opens. You will rehome more and more piggies. Keep up the amazing work.
Scotty I feel so bad for what you’ve been through with this little skinny pig 😢 you always try your best, you go above and beyond for all the piggies - you are amazing at what you do and hopefully the shelters will start to listen to you
I would love to be a local piggie Professor and help those learn how to properly care for a piggie so they thrive! ❤in my area or maybe online❤❤
Play Guitar with a good Friends and ride a Harley maybe😉
Do u know the Video on TikTok where a Owner cry very loud.
Thank you, I will stay positive. There is a good news story happening right now so stay tuned
@@ScottysAnimals❤
I’m sorry you weren’t able to get to Mitch. Hoping his new home will work out for him. Hugs 🫂
Thank you all for the love , kindness and dedication to helping guinea pigs, I wish that Mitch had been able to experience life with you. ❤
Keep going, Scotty! All you do, is being so appreciated by those piggies. ❤❤ You are a godsend.
Youre a good man doing Gods work ❤
You did your best!!! I wish you could safe them all but you have to know you have given you 100% on this one and it was out of your control ❤❤❤
Thank you for all you do.🙏🥰
You tried your best. You always do. Unfortunately, you can't save them all. Sending you big hugs ❤️.
Thank you
Here is some encouragement for you.
Don't give up if you have to go back and get that guinea pig
So many more new owners are waking up to all the good advice out there and you are the best your videos WILL BE SEEN and if not by Mitch's folks then by many many others who will learn from you Scotty just like i did and still do
Im so sorry 😢..we know you did everything you could ..💔
This does sound extremely frustrating. Humans are endlessly annoying when it comes to looking after animals. We hear you, Scotty!!
You are great Scotty thank you for all the good work you do
What’s wrong with those shelters you have in your country?
I am very sorry! You are doing your best and did everything you could! Sending you hugs!
I wish people would do their research!!! And I wish the shelter knew not to adopt out to someone with a tiny prison cell cage 😢
Thank you Scotty! Our piggies Zilla, Kong, Roe, Mecha, and Butternut want to say Thank you for helping all of their piggy friends.
I'm so sorry for you and this little guy. I wish they would contact you or Valerie. Why don't they? 😢
As everyone else has said, you go above and beyond. Sometimes, one gets left behind, but the intention and heart was still there. Keep on keeping on.
Thanks!
Thank you Mary, my friend!
@ScottysAnimals You are more than welcome! We go to mediation Monday with our insurance company and praying they see the light and give us some money. And then I can send a little more! 🎉🎉
Im so sorry Scotty 😢 we appreciate your efforts for always going to try help these little guys
I’ve worked in animal rescue for 60 years and it can be a thankless task with other humans. I feel for you but please don’t give up! We move on to the next opportunity to make a difference, even if it’s only potato sized 🤗
You did your very best.
I'm so sorry you weren't able to save him. I wish you could have. I'm glad to see how much you care for these little animals, and make sure they all get great homes they deserve.
You did all you could. It’s happened to me also. I understand the heart break.
We just have to keep going and do the best we can
We don't know what's going to happen with that skinny pig.
God Bless you for all you do ❤❤❤❤❤
You have good and bad days. It's not gonna go the way you planed but look back at guinea pigs you have helped and how good it turned out
So sorry to hear.
I hope your piggy start feeling better. Thank you for taking such good care of them and for sharing your kind words of encouragement
@@ScottysAnimals they are doing much better thanks!
You're still a rock star trying to help that guinea pig and others under your care.
I'm so sorry dude. Keep doing what you do and pray that they step it up.
I am so sorry this did not work out for you. U did your absolute best
You are so knowledgeable. I wish you lived closer to me. One of my piggies just hates everyone. Would be nice to have an expert opinion. 😮💨
Hopefully the little cage is just temporary, sounds like if they already have a bonded pair of boys they at least understand cage requirements.
I'd love to give them the benefit of the doubt. But if they think adding a skinny pig to already bonded pair of boys is a good idea who knows what else they are wrong about
You do a wonderful job, keep doing what your doing!! X
Thank you for what you do. We all do the best we can and you do more than than most and many of these animals need people like you.
I just lost my 8th piggy within the last 12 months.
❤
😢❤❤❤❤❤
Not related to video: But we just had to put one of our piggies down last night because he couldn’t recover from anesthesia. We are worried about our other piggie (who is dealing with his own crisis!) we dont know the best plan of action. Im mad at the vet for sending our zoomie home when he was non responsive. It is hard to find the best vets for guinea pigs. I have been everything I have been to help my 2 boys. The living piggie is dealing with an abscess that burst open. The one that passed had dental surgery. 😢
