i love he's like "right," when she says she has been inspired by homer. before she answered i was thinking "ancient greece! homer! myths! dionysos!" and it is actually evident in her work, i guess.
One can enjoy something and still be able to recognize it's silliness. I think it's rather wise to not blindly hate something. Even if that thing has caused so much unnecessary suffering.
Oh, but I think she is; just not in the way you think. Despite their gods, idols, and sacrifices, the Greeks were not religious in the way we think of today. There was no institutionalized religion, no "Thou shalts". It was much more raw and pure, untethered and unmediated. I'm certain she's had religious experiences, from moments of wisdom bequeathing clarity offered by Apollo, to Dionysian exuberance and loss of self during a creative spurt.
Not sure if the two necessarily have to correlate; case in point, I'm a staunch atheist (one might even say an anti-theist), but I've studied theology for years, it's a fascinating and beautiful subject. You can hate religion in practice but still find it interesting in theory, from a historical, mythological and/or sociological perspective.
Her voice and pronunciation and everything is so perfectt

So in love with that woman and her books are sublime.
