I hope this observation on how Mr Bieber sings helps you figure out how the voice works better, so you can learn how to make smart choices in your own voice.

“It’s been really hard for me to admit I’m not Justin Bieber” 😂😂 this whole part got me... but I understand what you are saying. 💗
funniest moment ever 🤣🤣
Katja Döhne I know right ☠️
i've decided to continue to support you even after learning that you aren't in fact justin bieber
it sounds like he was singing with a backing track during the chorus but during the verses it was 100% live. probably because of the choreography
Agreed, it's very hard to dance and sing at the same time :)
@@RedRoseSeptember22 exactly
I think this performance was really impressive, bc:
1. He is live (or half live)
2. He dance
3. He has lyme dissese and chronic mono and he is still killing dance / singing
Anol A allegedly...
Robert Barlow see his documentary on here - you can see his journey.
I was just telling my boyfriend how JB is my ultimate guilty pleasure since at least 2010. His sound has changed but I think he's more talented than people give him credit for.
When you were talking about you not being Justin and being fine with it, I suddenly had a flashback to when I realized I would never sound like Beyoncé 😂
Valeria 😂😂
Yep I feel you
@@fennecfo Not only my voice is light, but I can't even imitate her tone 😭 It was stupid, but I really wanted to have her voice 😂
@@JustMe-ym5rv I don't think it's stupid, but I do understand what you mean. She has extraordinary voice
As a Bieber fan, I easly recognize when he's lip-syncing or not. The verses and that final falsettos are 100% live, and he has that backround voice at the chorus, but he sings the chorus too.
You're not Justin Bieber, you're not a recording engineer, YOU'RE NOT A PRODUCER?!
It feels like we hardly know you anymore!
Krpi came here to comment the same thing 😂
Hes a voice teacher ;)
F
I don't think it's lip synching either, it's just a background vocal. You can tell when he's singing and when he's not. I'm actually fine with it so long as the performer gives a high energy performance 😊
Seems to just be the chorus, when he drops mic in the verses his voice actually goes away
exactly :)
Except they get paid to SING. Not to only perform.
Therefore he's falsehood, and there's so much autotune when he actually does sing. A huge fake that needs to be forgotten.
@@Afireinside912 Not true. Listen to when he sang Yummy acoustically on Ellen and you'll see that's just how he sounds, it's not autotune. Or when he did Intentions on SNL for that matter (the background vocal is much lower there).
@@Afireinside912 it depends on the singer, genre, etc. For a lot of pop music, performance is what people are buying when going to concerts, not entirely the singing.
Sam: gives very intense talk about live singing and intent for the channel
2 seconds later: bopping along.
Justin’s voice is so shockingly pretty sometimes
Miss.Frankie he’s literally a beautiful singer lol...
cutevirgo1996 that too 😁
Miss.Frankie he’s so good like truly...in all my irritation surrounding him I could never deny how truly talented he is
Cat Evans I agree He is quite talented. I never really understood the hate toward him, I always thought he did typical teenage stuff like the house-egging or whatever but there’s lots of teens that do that stuff.
But I kind of live under a rock so maybe there’s something I missed. 🤷🏻♀️
Can’t deny the talent tho.
He really sounds like an angel sometimes, and he really did when he was younger. If you listen to "U smile" slowed down 800 percent he literally sounds like a heavenly creature, haha (there is some clips of it here on youtube)
I am living for Sam blowing through his hands clapping like butterfly wings 🦋 to demonstrate the workings of the vocal folds/not cords/definitely not chords.
It's also super impressive, even though I dont really listen to him, he has so much energy in his performance even while battling Lyme disease.
That alone should make you wonder if all these celebs actually have lyme disease..
@@MK-ih6wp If you watch his documentary you'd see there is no denying he has it. He has just learned how to get his energy levels up, plus he gets alot of adrenaline from the audience on stage :)
@@jagelskardey I haven't watched the documentary but I have worked with a lot of drug addicts. His behavior & physical appearance is similar to theirs
@@MK-ih6wp I suggest you do, especially episode 5. He's very honest there about his previous drug history. He has stopped with drugs now but his brain is still damaged from it so he has hired brain doctors, health coaches and all kinds of people to get better.
Angelica Linde it‘s episode 5, i guess
I really don't like Bieber, but I'm here to find out what caused Sam's facial expression in the thumbnail ahahaha
Shelly Rambor what did. Cause it
Same.
Lol, that's what draws me in too. 🤭 👊😎👌
Lol same
Saaame
Awww, Sam. You don’t need to be Justin. We already have one of those. Just continue to be the best Sam Johnson you can! We love you!
He's not trying to be like him
5:00 "One thing that I've noticed about myself over the years is that I'm not Justin Bieber. And it has been really hard for me to admit that I'm not Justin Bieber"
Made me laugh so hard, thanks for that, hahahaha
Also thanks for a great review, I've been so excited to hear what you had to say! /Belieber
I feel like most people judge him for who he is and not his music. I'm not a fan of his music but has a nice voice. Shouldn't judge a musician's music because of the who they are but judge the music based from actual talent.
Sam exhibiting what happens in the throat with his whole body when sound is being produced is why I come back to these videos. lol
My belieber ass is quaking 10 seconds in
Update: I finished the video, I am satisfied
Thank you for that image of a vibrating ass...
Gross
Admitting we aren’t Justin Bieber is one of the things that brings us all together.
He has a lovely voice, but 99% of Male singers in the last 40 years sing with their larynx up to the moon at times.
Make warm sounds cool again
@@SamJohnsonVoice Justice for warm sounds ha. Am I right in thinking Michael Jackson had a big influence on this trend??
Italian Pills tea
@Italian Pills He had a great musical interpretive wit and was a supreme entertainer. However he spoke about wanting to sound like Diana Ross and very much raised his larynx to achieve that feat.
@Italian Pills im a voice student and in examples of singers who use a slightly raised larynx, and he really didn't have perfect technique evidence by his voice burning out sometimes especially in his high raspy vocals. But he had excellent breath support. And also has Good technique. I know double standards
Recently saw an American Idol audition clip where the judges asked the singer to perform a second song, WITH OPEN EYES, and thought of you. 😂😊
when u r so early the videos name is “justin final”
He was probably singing with a back track to support his dancing, so it wouldn't sound "empty"?
You're my favorite Channel that does "reactions" Sam. Mostly because your personality and editing continues to get more funny and entertaining - but also bc you do give helpful feedback on technical stuff. Also I know you're a good singer yourself based on your older videos. I would love to hear another cover or song from you sometime.
Sam's like "you guys are derailing my channel", but then Sam's like "the customer is always right!" Ooh, actually I feel icky about that comparison I just made. Never mind!
On the subject of video requests though, Dave Grohl or Josh Homme? No idea what songs. This request is half-baked. No thought was put into this... Ooh, that's Kurt Cobain. Ha.
There's plenty of Dave live around about the place. I'm tempted to say Everlong.
Why is this my favorite video of his? 😂😂 he has so much personality (Sam does) that he didn't have (probably because he wasn't as comfortable) in his earlier videos, but yeah. I Love him lol he's funny and I always learn something
Picturing Sam standing in front of a mirror and giving himself positive reinforcement about NOT BEING JUSTIN BIEBER and he’s okay with it. 😁 You go, Sam. You do you.
Would love to hear your vocal opinion on Jonghyun's ''million roses'' or ''end of the day live''💗
ua-cam.com/video/S_p2-1JmsI8/v-deo.html
You should do a reaction to Falling in reverse- the drug in me is you reimagined live version! A lot of people are reacting to it from vocal teachers to rap and metal reactors even though its basically a ballad. Never knew Ronnie Radke could sing something so beautifully.
Please don't regret not being Justin Bieber
One Justin Bieber is more than enough
I am so glad you are Sam
(you could try the "pornstache" though, and see how it looks)
Someone is sassy today. 😆 Great video. 😊 Hi to all the Alexes out there. 🤪
I really appreciate your kindess and generosity when you "react". I've struggled my whole life to not try and be Celine Flippin Dion. Lol. And I have a smaller voice.
I’ve also had to realize that I don’t sound like Chris Cornell. 😬😂 but when I lean into my own sound and stop trying to sound like someone else, my voice sounds so much better!
I loved this video, as a belieber for over a decade I give it a 10/10. Just want to say the playback is really only on during the chorus, at 9:15 he pulls the mic away and you can hardly hear the playback if that.
Sam, you should totally check out "The Drug in me is Reimagined" by Falling in Reverse!!!
Your facial expressions are reaching Jim Carrey levels and I'm here for it!
On a more serious note you're one of the only vocal coaches I watch on UA-cam because I'm a fucking nerd and I'm here to learn, so thanks for doing what you do.
5:00 I cried so hard through that part.
Okay the next part was hilarious too, though still informative lol.
Let's just say the entire video made me laugh a lot, at this point it doesn't make sense anymore to point out the parts.
A lot of artists do performances with doubling, this is usually done when they have a dance choreo which goes with the song. The major example of this right now would be BTS. You can hear when justin moves the mic, when his live voice leaves or enters. The fact he is dancing means it is the preferred method to 'beefen up' his vocals instead of doing it on his vocal track in the mixer, because it would be very awkward if his vocals stopped when he started doing his dance moves. Just imagine that while watching!
I started laughing so hard during your you vs. Bieber speech. I was at school. People stared. Can’t deny this is the quality content I crave.
Sam Johnson: ...like Believe was right in the middle of that change and he did a killer job on it. And then what was the next one the one that everyone liked...

Sad music with contemplating life decisions 🤣 love when you let your personality show! And this video is full of it
I’m gonna keep posting until you do Ben Platt singing “Somewhere” live. Also you’re amazing and I love watching your videos as a vocalist myself.
Total felt you at 12:10. I understand you do these videos to satisfy (some of) your viewers but you pose a 100% valid question. It's a credit to you to still be able to deliver insightful and constructive comments on what is (in my view) an entertaining video but with limited technical value.
Sam, you entertain me thoroughly. 🤗
"He likes to jump. That's cool." 🤣
Hi Sam Johnson! Is it possible for you to react to a Malaysian singer, Ernie Zakri, particularly her very performance of 'Ku Bersuara' at AJL34? I'd like to hear your detailed thought on her use of head voice and the mix :)
he was singing live but he has backing track when he sings with a particle lines or part
Dear Sam, I would really really like to understand what Ben Howard is doing with is voice in basically all of his live performances, i.e. the "Small Things" Solo Session or especially "The Wolfs" at WFUV. Also Daughters performance of "Smother" live on KEXP would be interesting! It's probably too unpopular, but I at least want to try and mention it. Love your channel
I think that the "EEEEE" works for justin as it is... could use improvement though. But alot of us wouldnt be able to get away with the thin high "EEE" notes. Doesn't usually sound good.
Tell the truth....you are going to re-watch this numerous times and then practice the choreography around the kitchen
'tricking people into knowing more things' is the funniest way of saying teaching lol
If you may pretty please react to The Drug In Me Is You Reimagined by Falling In Reverse. I would really like your thoughts on it cause I feel like it's such a beautiful rendition of the original.
Good reaction!
You can say many things about Justin but the dude is very talented, he has one of the most unique voices in the industry.
🤣🤣🤣 I enjoyed this video so much
I’d love to see you react to Billie Eilish no time to die live at the Brits because I remember hearing you say that you’d love to hear what Billie sounds like less breathy and she belts live in that vid
Can you please react to Million Roses by Jonghyun ❤ I'd love to hear your analysis about it ❤❤
i'd like to see his performance of crazy (guilty pleasure) analyzed!!!
@@user-tk7hg6ty5q he has so many great performances, I have hard time picking one ❤ Crazy performance is definitely one of them for sure! ❤
When I hear Autotune, I feel like I'm being cheated. I believe there is a place for it, but it is so overused today. I do agree with your question to your audience about what do you want from me when evaluating vocal quality of a presentation that is obviously being artificially manipulated. I want to see videos of live music and get your feedback on those so I can learn from that.
Hii please react to Ernie Zakrie - Ku bersuara (AJL34) . Thank you in advance 😁
Hey Sam, will you react to ernie zakri #AJL34 award :)
If anyone is interested in knowing more about 7:03 the cricothyroid muscle.
Your addams apple is actually cartilage that lays closer to the surface than your trachea. The cricoid cartilage is just underneath the thyroid cartilage and if you find the soft spot between your addams apple and cricoid that’s the place where you see medical shows cut and put a tube in to help someone breathe
Hi Sam! Greetings from Malaysia.. Can you react to Ernie Zakrie's performance of Ku Bersuara for AJL 34? We Malaysian hoping to watch your opinion of her performance.. 😊
Please react to Ernie Zakri singing Ku Bersuara AJL34 .. she is the singer from malaysia🥺 pleasee!!
Sam, the unexpected and highly energetic thumbs up made my Monday a much better day.
I loved the rant, BTW. Very informative and very clear, thank you!
Sam has so much attitude in this video and I am here for it.
12:16 Hey, who has claimed that the No Time To Die release was live?
I agree that there's usually no point in you analyzing nonlive vocals ❤
Really digging the editing
Oh my gosh I totally understand. I also have come to the realization that I am not Justin Bieber either 😔😢
please react Ernie Zakri - Ku Bersuara AJL34 TV3 and Hafiz Suip - kisah cinta kita AJL34 TV3 and please let malaysian know which one, Ernie or Hafiz should win Best Vocal
Hii james please react to Ernie Zakri-Ku Bersuara🥺 at AJL34.. she is the treasure of malaysia 🇲🇾
ernie zakri reacts ku bersuara ajl34
Nice vocal
No one:
Not one soul:
Sam: I am not Justin Bieber.
*sad piano*
Right back into critique like nothing happened.
We have an icon on our hands folks.
I do want to learn about live voices... Thanks for your hard work and dedication, Sam!
Hi Sam really love watching your video... Could you please give a reaction for Ernie Zakri - Ku Bersuara AJL34 as i really would like to see your reaction to her performance
The buckle up noise 😂😂😂 Okay so the cricothyroid thing you are talking about...when it is optimal it thins the vocal folds to enable higher pitches, gotcha. So you are not talking about the sound itself being thinner, like in resonance, but as a symptom of this optimal musculature configuration? Or does that end up being the same difference?
The alternative pulled chest voice thing--so how do the high pitches still happen if the folds aren't stretched optimally? Like, what is the nonoptimal alternative and why is it bad?
Yeah most singers who dance have a playback track during choruses or bridges because that's when they start dancing the most, so they want the vocals to still be playing. Like Usher, MJ, Bieber, Chris Brown, and everyone else pretty much.
the best informative and funny channel ever😂
I’d love to hear your thoughts on Matt Corby singing Brother live at Triple J!
The quote of the day... He likes to jump... that's cool. ♡ jsjsjsjsj love that
Great vid, i just wanna say i love what you do so muchhh 😍😍😍
I think Justin only have background voice on chorus part.
Please, please, pleeaaase, react to Falling in Reverse’s song ‘The Drug in Me is Reimagined’. I would love to hear your thoughts on it!!
Please react to "Million Roses"' cover by Jonghyun 💙 also "End of a day" live performance and "She Is" live performance, he's such a great vocalist 💙 hope you'll react to him more 💙 love your channel and vocal analysis 💙
I like this video
I wish I could meet you and you give me a one on one teaching. Lol I just love your energy, man. And your videos. ❤️
They werent lip syncing and i am surprised you couldnt notice that. there was a playback only on the chorus and he was always singing on top of it. in the each verse he was singing live
Not a fan of his music...but I will say he does sound good. Great video sam!!!
The self deprecating edits are fun. I like it.
Please react to Million Roses by Jonghyun
I really liked this video. It fell into my app algorithm. I’m starting to live my life due to my past. This video was really fun and as a visual learner although you were honest on your singing I still understood what you meant and it helped some thing I was doing wrong. So thanks. I subscribed.
He definitely had a back track in the chorus but not on the rest of the song, as a Justin fan I watched like a 100 performances of him and I can notice when he is singing live or lipsyncing
This is exactly why I listen to LP and Dimash.
chord deals with music and cord is either like what you said a rope and it is also a unit of measurement 1 cord equals 3624.56 Liters
Please react to Ernie Zakri singing Ku Bersuara from the #AJL34.
Million Roses by Jonghyun please, he sounds so good while performing, please react and analyse it ❤
Forgot to share link lol, this is the best quality I've ever found of this performance ❤
ua-cam.com/video/S_p2-1JmsI8/v-deo.html
You are sharp, though. Lots of singers go sharp when they go up. Some can't get there, some get there by hoarse(pun) and some get reedy(thin). I have noticed that Bieber goes up fuller when he is just standing still, or sitting.
Great job with the teaching lesson!
I bet Justin would meet you and get a lesson from you. He seems to respond to genuine people.
Please react to Mariah Carey Nodules Day vs Vocals on Fire! I think there’s a lot of teachable moments in that video. It addresses areas of weakness, but also showcases some stunning vocals!
The Drug In Me Is Reimagined" by Falling in Reverse....... Please
I would love to hear your opinion on BROCKHAMPTON's (American boy band - Rap/Pop/R&B) live performance of their song 'SUGAR' on The Ellen Show. I think it's fair to tell you that two parts are with Autotune as a voice effect (Dom, who raps the 1st verse, has it also on the recorded version. Kevin, who does the bridge, likes to pitch his voice up or down on recorded versions and performs it live with Autotune. There is also natural harmonizing at Kevin's part.).
I would also love to hear your opinion on their (actually only one member, Bearface, sings it) cover of Alicia Keys' 'Un-thinkable (I'm Ready)' on Triple J. He is my favorite member and I would love to hear a professional opinion on his technique and voice in general.
Most importantly, I love your videos and I appreciate your knowledge. It's crazy how in depth you go in your videos. Keep it up!
Love BROCKHAMPTON! Bear face is my fav too :)
@@anbar It's always nice seeing other fans of the group! Hopefully for us Sam sees this and finds it interesting enough to do a video :D
