I was pissed and sad hearing about KXTN! they sold out. But I saw it coming when Univision took over. Univision buys out tejano stations and shuts them down to make way for there bull shit. Tejano music is so underrated but so influential that we as a industry are vertically ignored by the mainstream. But in my opinion tejanos have the best music, style, and rhythm. Hands down.
San Antonio has been playing they had a music before it was even call stay high no music way back in 59 sign in the sunglows your birthday is in the Blue Notes Jimmy Edwards Joe Bravo Richie in the Reno bops the Royal jesters Sunny Asian to Twisters the list goes on and that's why I San Antonio it's called but they have capital

What you mean what happened to Tejano radio? KXTN might’ve died after they fired Johnny Ramirez but KSAB in corpus is still going. And I tune in everyday.
KEDA is a conjunto station and always has been. They did play some Tejano music, so they passed themselves off as Tejano on the less quality AM radio frequencies. KXTN kept their so called Tejano music on the AM band. They are in San Antonio.
Its sad tejano music has basically died.i think a lot of it is the 70s and 80s were just great creative times with all our talented singers and groups cranking out some awesome stuff.but like all good things things stagnate and stop.plus univision begin buying out the mom and pop radio stations and changing the format to what our south of the border cousins liked.anyway im thankful for you tube and my spotify to preserve my good memories.
I totally agree.. It started with Univison. as Tejanos we need to be vocal and keep visible. Maybe we need produce a Chicano flag back again or a bumber sticker , Viva la raza chicana. If we dont be careful the people that are invading our border will change and even take over our culture..
You're absolutely right when you mention Intocable. They came on the scene and then that's all that was palyed. You'd have three songs every hour. On a tejano station from a non tejano group. People liked the non tejano and so those people were catered to with formate changes. Intocable and terrible DJs who played boring shit like Borracho de Besos all the time. Ain't nobody trying to hear that people are trying to jam. Shitty DJs wouldn't make it happen. Borracho de Besos or Intocable? Hell I'd even say Intocable...!
gringo viejo what is carnival music I'm originally from ft Stockton tx,grew up with tejano music little Joe you know, now reside in Illinois but go down their yearly
Where in Wa are you? Several stations cater to a couple hours. But if you want your fix 24/7 your best bet is internet radio. I'm with Tejano Lippz. You can find us on Tune In app.
I remember Mando Sanroman in the mornings at KIWW with Filemon "El Raton". His saying was "Right on Cacheton!!" I would hear them every morning on my way to school and they would really cheer up my mornings!! Miss those days!
I personally think that the Tejano audience is very small compared to the Regional audience. That’s why the new Tejano conjuntos choose to go the regional route bcuz that’s where the feria is. And like I said bfore the new Tejano generation doesn’t seem very interested in la onda tejana, most of these chavalos wanna be morenos so bad 🤦🏽♂️.
Y’all take it easy on my comment, it’s just MY opinion.... So What happened to Tejano? That a lot of the tracks were so repetitive, boring and ESPECIALLY corny! I’m sorry if I offend some folks, I love Tejano, die hard fan but fuck man I was so fed up with that Eddie G song, it was so corny and mind numbing, I can’t stand that song El Disgusto with him. Albert Zamora? Never evolved same. It’s almost like they have no lyrical talent to write good catchy but meaningful songs. Conjunto can sometimes seem so corny. Another thing, why do Tejano artist record such shitt music videos??! Like put effort in the genre and impress, get on your grind and innovate. And by the way, Every time I tune into a Tejano station on iHeartRadio all the way from Nashville, Tennessee they always play those same ass cumbia songs!!!!!!!! Like why! It’s my opinion y’all, I still love Tejano but I hate where it’s going.
Sad to say but Selena's death was a huge blow to Tejano I'm afraid this might have ended it...I'm from just outside San Antonio. San Antonio is Tejano! KXTN has given me so many childhood memories... I remember it as a kid New Year's Eve, one of the few times fishing with my dad at the lake, all night Selena songs the night she was murdered, any given weekend on a cool summer night it'd be on. I didn't appreciate it as a youngster but I learned to love it. Now it's on my playlists jammin with a cold beer in hand on a weekend... This station will truly be missed. TEJANO AND PROUD!
Well I go way back to the 60s high school when we had few Tejano stations KCCT in Corpus Christi was one of my favorites KIBL in Beeville with Alfredo Velasquez for a couple of hrs and a station in Kennedy Karnes City it was turning the AM dial to find the stations and what hrs they played Tejano
There is no longer a tejano station in Laredo. It sucks but as long as the people like us here in Zapata Texas ask for real tejano/conjunto it will always be around. PS Ricky Munoz started as tejano.
Omg Mando your voice is unforgettable many wonderful and amazing times and memories to listen to his voice what a time brought me so many shared profound memories of my teenage years so sad that tejano has gone little at a time but i still hear it i grew up with tejano wow
KXTN lost ratings because they play the same music over and over they go by a playlist and when Johnny Ramirez left they sucked.. Listen to Fierro 107.5 HD2 download radio.com on your app Johnny Ramirez and Jammin J Javi are on that station now mixing it up Saturday nights and also are on in the mornings mixing it up with another dj Bo Gonzalez
It was a sad day for our people when they changed the format on 107.5. We need to support each other's businesses. Let's take a minute and think about other nationalities and how they support each other and prosper in this country....
KXTN started to play all kinds of music one day due to that DJ Jonny played tejanio, then for the whole time he was on the air was, country, oldies I don't remember also if hip hop was played i enjoy hearing all kinds of music but when they play the same thing daily kinda have to. He played that for his show complaining of the management. He was given time off the again later in the year the same thing even took over someone's else show due to he asking S.A. listeners to call in and give him support. The next DJ came in they expressed it was there turn Jonny would not leave due to the support from the listeners that day. He got time off again not sure if it was a radio chance to change programming but they killed tejanio in S.A. instead of supporting tejanio music and artists to get paid per playtime and our heratige.
I became a fan of Tejano back in mid 90s Dallas. Z-Rock, the heavy metal station went off the air, and it was replaced by KICK-FM 99.1. I lived in 80% Hispanic East Dallas & managed to order lunch at taquerias. I didn't like the shift of metal from melodic to thrash anyway. "Son Tus Miradas," by Jay Perez was my first Tejano favorite; later, I sang it for my first karaoke song at Loz Desperadoz of Arlington. .......Anyway, Intocable is the bridge between Norteno and Tejano. East Texas finally has a Tejano station and it's on the Internet from Lufkin.
I do listen to Tejano music in some Mexican radio station , now most of them play Banda. What was the down fall of Tejano music, cause I grew up with Tejano an Norteno among other kind of music.
Spotify, Pandora, UA-cam helped end Tejano. It is way too easy to find what you like online. Not the best lyrics, not a lot of NEW talent. Aging artists. Love Tejano but its day has come and gone. Tejano shoulda taken a lesson from Norteño.
How do you figure? As long as tejanos / tejanas are performing and recording, the genre goes on. Markets go through changes, but genres don't "die" as long as there are artists who make the music, and fans who listen to it. Personally, I like Tejano because the artists are of two cultures, sing in Spanish AND English, and incorporate many different styles of music - Latin, Pop, Rock, R&B, even some Raegge. There's something in it for everyone. Besides, I'm a HUGE, long - time Selena fan, so I'm probably a little biased towards Tejano. I mean, its like the "best of both worlds / cultures" - what's not to like?
@@selfan4evr You are correct in saying genres don't just die. Part of what I meant is that it has been a LONG time since we last heard a Tejano band really cranking out bonafide hits. With much smaller gate sales and a nosedive in overall Tejano revenues, top talent that is no longer attracted to become Tejano musicians. It has to be hard to make a living that way now. I imagine that is part of why Norteño has sooo many aspiring musicians (look up on UA-cam)... And so few Tejano bands comparatively. I still love Tejano though.
Just subbed you bro, Great channel! As far as KXTN goes, I think it was very poorly managed, more than the Tejano fan base Dying out, more could of been done to preserve the Station, I actually think changing the format of the station years ago and staying true and sticking to old school traditional Tejano music brought the demise to the station, KXTN went way off track and did not stay dedicated to one thing and that’s TRUE Tejano music for instance the stuff that we heard for on Sunday Cruising Classics to all the new music from groups like David Lee Garza, Ram Herrera, Jay Perez, Mazz, Gary Hobbs, Elida, Shelly etc Just to name a few, I could go on forever with traditional Tejano artist, that was the true Tejano music and KXTN lost a lot of Support along the way. Sadly we have no True Tejano Radio station here in the SA area now.
Mando 59, you Rock early 50's, what are you guys eating? You guys are looking good bro lol! I love watching. Selena forever (thats white and really far north talk GO RAPTORS, PHILLY GOING DOWN)
What killed Tejano popularity was the DJs. Most of the new Tejano DJs didnt know Tejano or music for that matter and thus played anything, anyone. They didn't recognize a hit song if it bit them in the ass. Some of the songs they played were imbarrassingly bad. And would play the same 10 year old songs. My theory for a successful station and for a larger Hispanic audience would be to play hit songs from any and all great Mexican American artist, whether it be in English or Spanish. Whether it be Joe Lopez or Trini Lopez. Richie valens or Linda Ronstadt. Jimmy Edward or Jimmy Gonzalez. Los Aguilares or Michael Salgado to Angela Aguilar who is an American, born and bred. Many Mexican American Artist are singing country as well. But just play the hits.. old or new. Variety would be enormous and avoid constant repetition. And we need to quit supporting Mexican artist(From Mexico). Let's support AMERICAN artist of MEXICAN descent ONLY!!! And let's keep the DJ language in English, so as to attract the younger Hispanic fans. The non- english Hispanic fans can use it to learn English. They have to learn it sooner or later, besides they are in America now and here we speak English and listen to Mexican American Music, Cabrones!!!!
KXTN played the same 20 year old songs over and over. Anytime i go to another town that has Tejano stations I hear great new music that I would never hear on KXTN. They didn’t give new artists a chance. They didn’t allow the sound to evolve. If Tejano wants to captivate today’s listener then they need to play today’s music meaning the evolving Tejano. There’s a lot of Spanish speakers in our country now. They don’t just listen to music from their genre. I listen to pop, country, rock, r&b and so on. They could listen to salsa, tropical, norteño, banda and Tejano. Except Tejano on KXTN never offered them something captivating. Only the same 8 or 9 30 year old songs. The programmers at KXTN did this to the station. And I hope Johnny’s not patting himself on the back thinking he’s the reason the station went under. I started listening again after he left:
Imagine if every genre stay the same they would've failed miserably. Look at country there wasn't many younger folks listening to it now that it's had a chance to evolve. These young artists are becoming stars we're not listening to the same ol Boot scoot and boogie, Neon moon or Thunder rolls. It's time to pass the torch before the flame burns out. P.s. I love my tejano from way back also 90s and the guys still kicking but I never turn on a station that play most of the new generation if any. There's still a chance.
The answer is all about economics. Tejanos are getting older. Young generation does not support Tejano. New immigrants (and their music) have the buying power by shear numbers. Univision caters to the $$$. I hope we can support the new Tejano acts like Monica Saldivar, La Dez. Etc. Listen to Fierro Radio on the internet.
I agree that its about the money but nobody out spends the Mexican American . The mexican American has a huge buying power and we are the most richest powerful border culture in the world. More money goes threw San Antiono then all of Mexico. remember we have the dollar that no other border people have. We have the dollar! Viva mi raza Tejana /Chicana
Tejano is big in Monterrey right? So y don't you bring good tejano dis from Monterrey that speak more Spanish ...that way the people that like Spanish more can find tejano music more interesting and appealing to them ..there's more people from Mexico now they don't understand what it was like in Texas in those days u have to reach this new audience to keep tejano on the radio simple ..so if tejano is big in Monterrey still follow their format make San antonio the new Monterrey ...n u said it don't get stuck with 90' tejano only or like the 90's Dallas cowboys them days are gone time to really wake up

The valley had a lot of good music but it is was more conjunto style and influenced more by Mexicans from Mexico. Chicano music started in San antiono with Sunny Ozuna and with Little Joe in Temple. Rock and Roll James, that you in all black!? I would never have recognized you! I grew up watching you on Puro Tejano. I used to love the chemistry between you and Selena. I still constantly watch the vids on UA-cam.
Tejano music is dead. That stuff you hear is not the real deal.
@@3vino1 tejano culture sucks
Tejano is alive and well in Abilene TX thanks to La Voz 93.3!
Dam bro ...you taking me way back ... I remember STUDIO 4 in Harlingen ... good times ... I was 15 when I started going in there ....🍺🍺🍺
How bout the HANGER??
I remember KIWW it was a great radio station back then. Wish there was a tejano station deperdido en AM. Saludes pa todos Los del PVT Show.
👍 Puros Vatos Tejanos👍
Puro Valle Papa👍🏼 y Puro Tejano!
What you mean what happened to Tejano radio? KXTN might’ve died after they fired Johnny Ramirez but KSAB in corpus is still going. And I tune in everyday.
Puro RGV / Tejano history 💯
Hah. Nope. Tejano started here. We got Emilio ram jay.. Latin breed shelly. The list goes on
KEDA RADIO JALEPENO Am 1540 Fm 99.9 still holding the 👑 Crown
KEDA is a conjunto station and always has been. They did play some Tejano music, so they passed themselves off as Tejano on the less quality AM radio frequencies. KXTN kept their so called Tejano music on the AM band. They are in San Antonio.
David Morales is Raulito stll there?
Rock n Roll James Echavarria No Carnal he's not, he is performing music full time
3viño1 New Station on the FM dial in SA, K Alamo KLMO 98.9 FM 24/7 of Non Stop Tejano Power..
puro valluco guys RGV 956
I had no idea he was that hot guy in all those photos with Selena and tejano articles omg he looks so different
I remember when they played Tejano music on some of the radio stations here in Sacramento. Now it's mariachi music. Nothing but that
You're absolutely right when you mention Intocable.
Hell yeah. Tejano decided it wanted to be Norteno.
En Monterrey seguimos amando la música tejana.
i cant say this enough- thank you for this platform!!!!!
TEJANO FOREVER RGV
The carnival music has taken over Odessa/Midland catering to the new wave of "people" swarming to this area. And it really sucks.
gringo viejo what is carnival music I'm originally from ft Stockton tx,grew up with tejano music little Joe you know, now reside in Illinois but go down their yearly
ARMIDA MENDOZA I think he means Banda.
Washington state need a new radio station just Tejano jam........and full time🙏✌✌✌
Where in Wa are you?
KOKE 1600 AM in Austin Tejas still going strong.
Very informative, thanks. SELENA💝SELENA😍
SIEMPRE LA REINA !😘
New sub ❤️love you channel 👌
La Mafia best tejano grupe
Ramon Ayala is not tejano
Well I go way back to the 60s high school when we had few Tejano stations KCCT in Corpus Christi was one of my favorites KIBL in Beeville with Alfredo Velasquez for a couple of hrs and a station in Kennedy Karnes City it was turning the AM dial to find the stations and what hrs they played Tejano
There is no longer a tejano station in Laredo. It sucks but as long as the people like us here in Zapata Texas ask for real tejano/conjunto it will always be around. PS Ricky Munoz started as tejano.
And Intocable created a new genre within Tejano. Norteno Light.
You right brother the awesome tejano music never die
Awesomeness rock
Omg Mando your voice is unforgettable many wonderful and amazing times and memories to listen to his voice what a time brought me so many shared profound memories of my teenage years so sad that tejano has gone little at a time but i still hear it i grew up with tejano wow
I steel love Tejano music !
Que viva la musica tejana!!!!
Eeeehhhh ROCK ........no le puedes echar un poquito de CRISCO!!!!! 😂🤣😂CLASSIC
Tejano Music is Strong Here in Lubbock,Tx.
Capital and roots ramas is San Antonio
It’s sucked after jamming j javi and Johnny Ramirez we’re dismissed
The truth!
I've been listening to Zereno since the 80's. Awesome music!
He said Bobby Pulida lmfao. Good vid though. Love the channel.
🔖WHAT HAPPENED TO TEJANO 107?
It's Top 40 now. It's available as KVBH 107.5 HD2, KXTN 1350 AM and is also available on an app called Uforia. The HD means it's a digital station.
Still blasting puro tejano music out my 12’s all the way out here in Houston COMPAS
Zereno is bad ass! Tight musicians and very smooth vocals!
Kxtn.now.sucks.👎
Este vato que.. el cartel de santa 😂😂😂
@@selfan4evr
You are correct in saying genres don't just die.
Tejano DID take a lesson. It became imitation Norteno.
Unos grandes locutores!😎✔
Kyst what's that Tejano can't remember🤔
Selena forever (thats white and really far north talk GO RAPTORS, PHILLY GOING DOWN)
Puro monterrey México 🇲🇽
The tejano music that includes trumpets & keyboards doesnt hit at all anymore. Palominos, Intocable style is what still hits now a days.
Banda Tejana is dying out. Your right people like Norteno light and conjunto.
How about Grupo Frontera?
TEJANO MUSIC BEEN DEAD SINCE 1995,THATS WHY TEJANO PLAYED MARIACHI,CUMBIAS AND NORTEÑO MUSIC.DONT GET ME WRONG BUT TEJANO MUSIC NOW SUCKS.
Right?! When Selena died, so did tejano music.
SMH, when you say everyone's name except for Roberto Pulido!!! 👑🎼🎵🎶🎵
Rock you should do a ARUTHO MONTES TRIBUTE BRO IDK JUST TALK WHAT U KNO ABOUT HIM LIKE A 7 8 MIN VIDEO HE IS A LEGEND BROTHA DO U AGREE???
Radio Jalapeño 😁👍
Yall holding tejano back not scouting local talent. No one wants another emilio or Selena.
I was never into the music I have always been into old rock music, R&B music, rap, blues, big band music, old country music, never into Spanish music
No one listens to it thats why
Tejano 1600 AM Tucson, Az
Etc. Listen to Fierro Radio on the internet.
doubletswarm awesome
I agree that its about the money but nobody out spends the Mexican American . The mexican American has a huge buying power and we are the most richest powerful border culture in the world. More money goes threw San Antiono then all of Mexico. remember we have the dollar that no other border people have. We have the dollar! Viva mi raza Tejana /Chicana
Just like the Republic, Laredo is the Capital!
The bands and the industry sold out, the music in the 90s was as tejano as I'm jewish.
Tejano is big in Monterrey right? So y don't you bring good tejano dis from Monterrey that speak more Spanish ...that way the people that like Spanish more can find tejano music more interesting and appealing to them ..there's more people from Mexico now they don't understand what it was like in Texas in those days u have to reach this new audience to keep tejano on the radio simple ..so if tejano is big in Monterrey still follow their format make San antonio the new Monterrey ...n u said it don't get stuck with 90' tejano only or like the 90's Dallas cowboys them days are gone time to really wake up
Tejano music is pretty much dead. It began dying in the 90's. I don't know what you consider Tejano music. I really had a hard time understanding your point.
Times have changed. I loved it the concerts, the music. I don't like it but the times have changed. I don't touch or even recognize 99.5. But most of those bands have changed. Some of these musicians born again Christians javier Galvan gary hobbs. Some are worn out and fed up ...los chamacos. Never thought I see the day jaime would break apart.
@Luis Ventura always got to be that one person. Fk off
...
I wish Q pasa played ONLY tejano ... They don't !! Why I like KXTN ..
Lenguaje? 🤨
Man I remember that station La KIWW , La Iris "the virus" Hinojosa asustame!!!! you all put them rolas down . Now I live aca en S A y simon Saturday last wk they change the program que awite!!! Pero sabes Rock there is 98.9 KLMO a new station y pos 99.9 puro tejano conjunto .It's not going to be the same pero they stepped in to fill them shoes!!!!
Ok so you seriously lost me at tejano roots begin in the valley ya you guys have mazz and many other tejano musicians but San Antonio area is WHERE TEJANO WAS BORN. The Germans brought the accordian to Texas and that was in the hill country new Braunfels Fredericksburg and San Antonio. Get in where you fit in valley people where you come from is nothing to be proud of it's the arm pit of Texas you're lucky your even part of Texas
I agree with you somewhat. There is a difference between Tejano music verses Chicano music. The valley had a lot of good music but it is was more conjunto style and influenced more by Mexicans from Mexico. Chicano music started in San antiono with Sunny Ozuna and with Little Joe in Temple. Here in north Texas in Dallas when i was growing up Chicano music was the bomb.! We had good sound like Ruben Romos , Reye Reyna , The true kings and many more... But you are right about the valley
@@tb1149 tb my brotha you are 100percent right the music that came out of the valley was definitely heavily Mexican influenced the unique one of a kind all original tejano music came from the San Antonio area and groups like mazz only tried to improve upon the sound that was coming out of Sa back in the day and they did a great job don't get me wrong but the valley absolutely cannot claim tejano roots I'm sorry lo siento the valley but Sa is and will always be the capital of tejano
@@timariaz7814 Yeah dont mess with San Antiono.! Viva San Antiono! Long live la raza tejana / chicana
