  • We bought this 1974 Harley-Davidson Sportster in Georgia this year, but it’s a survivor chopper from 1970s California. We’re not sure the story behind it, so if you recognize this bike or know anything about its past, we’d love to hear from you.
    Regardless of who built it, we think they did a phenomenal job. Out of all the Iron Heads we’ve come across, this one stands out. From the pink paint to the raked front end and insane carb setup, we fell in love with this bike and think you will too.
    Take a look as we walk you through what we know about the bike, dubbed “Grave Digger” by our very own Rob and stay tuned for more on this bike.
    If you like the Petcock, Fuel Line or Vintage Cloth-Covered Electrical Wire we used to get this bike running again, you can purchase those from the links below before checking out some of our other favorite bike walk around videos.

    Oh my God. I feel like I’ve been transformed back to the mid to late 70’s. I feel 20 years old again. Watching you kick her made my right leg hurt. I developed “the Sportster strut” back when I had my 75. What a great looking bike. If only she could talk. Ride safe.

    I have my dads 1970 xlch
    Had a Weber two barrel, could never keep it running. So I put a s and s e type on 3400 miles later, the jug bolts snapped, rebuilt it and haven’t really rode it since.. love the sound on those motors.

    Yes that thing is enviable. I have a '70 with Mikuni carb, similar seat; rebuilding the engine off the frame. It will sound a bit like this beautiful dinosaur~~

    John Harmon; he built internal spring girder front ends. After that idk; Arlen, donnie, and Paul did longer lower frames.

    Lose the Mufflers. Keep the Del'Orto carb and the girder front end. That's a rolling piece of history.

      He said it was a Webber carburetor i thought. I have an S and S two throat carburetor you guys need. I had it on a 79 iron head. One thing that you may or may not know. Sportster kick-starters will screw your knee up. They're not like a big twin. They will fall straight through when you kick them a lot. This will hyper extend your knee. It will try to bend the wrong way. This usually happens when you've kicked it a while and all ur friends are ready to go. Did I mention that it will make you roll around on the ground screaming like a girl in front of everyone. I've seen it happen numerous times back in the day. Something you probably won't see anymore cause everyone has a p***y button and don't know what a kick-start is. BTW. Old bikers with kick only Hard tails are your hard core bikers. We can fixem on the fly and know some old tricks we learned from older dudes. Just my thoughts. You guys remind me of myself. I got my 1st sportster when I was 19 and I'm still going. I hope you guys have as much fun as I have growing up on a Harley.

      @@kellyballard1773 One guy I saw on the inet put a 4x4 or such block of wood on the ground at the bottom of the kick stroke to keep his foot from extending too far and blowing out his knee. Seemed to work.

    I’m surprised to see a new style rectifier on it instead of an old delco remy type… does it still have the original style generator ? Generator produces dc, rectifier usually goes with alternator and ac, rectifying the ac

    • @crispysuds

      It has an alternator you can see it spin when they’re on the b side

      Same here mines 58 iron head with a invader wheels, girder, hard tail threw a friend off into a ditch after rebuilding it a year to the day after threw me on the right side of the road. Still in the building today anybody know what causes that besides WTFO?

    The Weber looks cool, but I don’t think the engine likes it. Too much air volume without enough velocity. It goofs up fuel atomization. It might start and run a lot better if you completely ‘dummy’ off one side of that carb.

  • @needmetal3221
    @needmetal3221 3 роки тому +1

    That carb setup is overkill. I dont think those things ever really worked that well. I'd find a bendix or mikuni.
