i swear i knew how to do this as a kid but i had to google it this morning …this is my family’s 3rd outback so i have no idea how all of us simply ✨forgot✨ THANK U
Just drove home my 1st Subaru this afternoon, and came across this problem as I was trying to set up seats, etc. Saved me a deep dive into the owner's manual!
THANK YOU!! My granddaughter locked my Ascent's 3rd row middle seat and we could NOT figure out how to unlock it...your awesome video saved the day!! :) My car's button was red and you made this so easy!! thank you!!
Thank you so much for this video, but on older Subaru Foresters, you actually have to press in using a key instead of the seatbelt latch. I spent so much time pressing in the seatbelt latch into the tab, and it refused to unlock. Then I said "hmm let me try the keys" and it unlocked instantly, I couldn't believe it. No amount of pressing in the seatbelt metal part was able to undo it!
Mine doesn't have any slot it's just a tiny little gray part maybe that's the slot but I don't think it pushes in I'll have to try it again @@TysonTheSubaruSpecialist
@TysonTheSubaruSpecialist my Honda Fit was totaled in the Memorial weekend tornado. My mechanic had this 2013 Outback he just replaced the motor, brakes, front end and everything it needed. Sold it to me at market value which is ok. It just seems big and ..old.. The a/c stops working unless the car is moving. In traffic or just idling, the air blows hot. Is that normal? Once I start moving, it cools back down. It's awful in traffic.
I had one of these that got stuck with a dog basket attached. The LATCH restraint anchor on the 2010 Subaru Forester centre be buckle "Autofriend Model A1536" it said. Take a an old credit card and cut it so it fits as a shim in the buckle. Make sure it is maximum width. It has to go all the way down in the buckle. Work it into the bottom, make sure there's enough to pull it back out. Press the grey tab with a stubby flat head. If you have big hands you can still have a free hand. Hold the shim in place in there and then pull out the stuck buckle. Done!
Yes, some of the vehicles, mostly the sedans, don't have the option to remove the middle seat belt - I think that that is an oversight on Subarus part.
The exactly reason I want to remove the seat belt but it's different for a WRX. Looks like I might have to undo the seats to unbolt a seatbelt... *sigh*
What do you mean by only one buckle? In the second row there will be three "regular" buckeles and then one small different buckle for the middle seat so that everyone gets a 3 point harness.
@ryan7735 I have never seen that happen before. The retractor could be stuck or, depending upon the age of the vehicle, the belt could be dirty and that could be gumming up the retractor.
It's so that every passenger ends up with a 3 point seatbelt instead of the middle passenger having a lap belt only - Subaru is all about safety. And it's a function thing, as well. Being able to unclip the seatbelt and retract it into the roof makes it much easier when it comes to loading longer cargo.
@@TysonTheSubaruSpecialistdoes that end click into a receiver in the cars headliner, or is it simply pushed up into a crack? I suppose this is the identical system used in the Ascent.
@TexasHarleyBoy65 there are slots for them, but nothing like the buckle that passengers use. I can't say I've ever had one fall out of the room when inserted into the slots.

Crazy that you have to use a key on the older ones. Those ones must be before my time at Subaru.

Excellent. That's what I thought the gray slot was.. couldn't figure it out.

How about for a 2023 wrx? Ive got a 14 forester that operates as you described here. My 23 wrx looks like it cant be unlatched.
Can it be?? Thanks.
In the sedans, there isn't a way to unbuckle it :(

My subaru has the middle seatbelt secured inside, behind the seat. There's no way I can get to the end of it to release it
Yes, some of the vehicles, mostly the sedans, don't have the option to remove the middle seat belt - I think that that is an oversight on Subarus part.
Thank you very much!
Very welcome!
Please tell us how to put it back to the seat !
There is a slot on the unique clip that you can put the buckle into and press it - that results in it releasing.
Why the dealer does not show that....lol thank you 🙏 very much i had mine hooked for months 😂 😆 😝

Tyson, is there a way to do this in a Legacy (2018)? It doesn’t have the device you show.
I do not believe that there is way to do that in our Sedans. I think that they're fixed.
Is it weird that there's only one buckle, not 2?

now my seat belt loose won't back again . how can I fix that?
It won't retract into the roof?

@@TysonTheSubaruSpecialist the car is 2024
@@ryan7735 I'd advise getting it looked at by your dealership.
This is not correct for my subaru forester or my the 2021 outback. I have a small red button.
Very odd. It's correct for all of our SUV's/Crossovers. Are you in North America?
why would they design the seatbelt like that
It's so that every passenger ends up with a 3 point seatbelt instead of the middle passenger having a lap belt only - Subaru is all about safety. And it's a function thing, as well. Being able to unclip the seatbelt and retract it into the roof makes it much easier when it comes to loading longer cargo.
@@TysonTheSubaruSpecialist I've seen so many cars with three point seatbelts. They manage to hide it in the seats. Not dangling midair like that
@@marktruong7937 there's no dangling at all, it gets secured into the slots in the roof.
@@TysonTheSubaruSpecialistdoes that end click into a receiver in the cars headliner, or is it simply pushed up into a crack?

*centre
Both spellings are actually correct, typically Centre is used more by the British and Center is used more by North Americans.
He's American, so "center" is correct... the US won that war a long time ago.
