Just a quick correction-Kerala isn’t a Christian-majority state. Hindus make up about 54%, Muslims 27%, and Christians only 18%. Christianity here dates back to at the least 3rd century, and Muslims trace their roots to Arab traders from the 7th century. Also, it’s not right to call any Indian state Hindu, Christian, or anything else-India a secular, socialist, democratic republic. Malayalees are deeply religious but still very secular when it comes to coexisting with different faiths. However, instead of calling kerala "a christian state", you could call it a "communist state" because world's first democratically elected communist government was formed in Kerala in 1957. Since then Kerala has only been ruled by either Communists or socialists, the current government being a communist one, despite being a religious state.

Hello Mandy & Lee. A story: - I was in Hikkaduwa in 1983 and there were a series of bomb attacks in Colombo and elsewhere. I thought I ought to advise my parents that I was OK. A letter (remember them?) would take too long. To make a phone call I had to get the train to Colombo. Tuk to the General Post Office. Fill in a telephone request form. Wait for (seemingly) hours until informed that my call was being connected. Spoke for 3 minutes to my Dad who was unaware of the news from SL! Back I went to Hikkaduwa - a full day to make an unnecessary phone call! How things have changed. Back then I had a 'Rough Guide'. Now I'm back in SL using your wonderfully useful tips. Thank you so much for all the effort you put in to making these videos.

Kerala is a secular state in india.. but christainity is obviously a reason why kerala is no. 1 in literacy rate and health care in india. Because christain missionaries build a lot of schools and hospitals in kerala. For example, long ago in my home town near kochi, children of upper caste hindhus are allowed to go to a school in that area, so christain missionaries build a another school for children of lower caste hindhus.. so it helped to improve socio economic status of all people irrespective of their caste

@@davidcrocker9806 Wow... what a crazy travel story, and how funny that the news hadn't reached your family 🤣 Lee had something similar in 1995 when he was in Peru, and war was declared with Ecuador... but he didn't call his parents for 3 months as it was too expensive, so an aerogramme (remember them 🤗) had to suffice 🤣

@@jango4894 Hello 👋 We're currently in the West Midlands... hasn't the weather been great the past few days. Thank you for your lovely comment 🤗🙏
Mandy and Lee are not clickbaiters; if they are, they will not go back to India; they will stay longer or go back to the Philippines like what other foreign UA-camrs do. They left the country last year even though their channel is slowly growing. That's why I keep on watching them. Their growth is organic. I am so tired of vloggers clickbaiting Filipinos, so I chose what/who to subscribe to. And I'm glad I bumped on this channel. The OG of backpackers.
Oh, this means so much to us! ❤️😍 We are so pleased that you discovered our channel and have written so many wonderfully uplifting comments. UA-cam is a hobby for us, and we genuinely want to share our 30+ years experience of budget travel, regardless of whether a video gets 1000 views or 100,000 views! We will definitely return to the Philippines one day as 1 month wasn't long enough, but it'll be a few years away yet as there are so many other amazing countries to visit as well. Thank you so much again for being so lovely. Sending big hugs from Lee and I xx❤️🥰

@@amel_.s Bless you, so cynical for one so young. Of course we wanted to visit India again and of course we'd make videos of our experiences... same as our travels in the Maldives; Sri Lanka; Saudi Arabia etc and my Journey to Wellness after being diagnosed with cancer last year. I'm not sure why the India videos have triggered you so much... but I wish you all the best. ~ Mandy

@@ancyvarghese165 Ah, that is so interesting, and it explains so much. Apologies for being so completely mistaken about Kerala being a Christian state. It's something I've thought incorrectly since 1998, and I am so pleased to be corrected.
