  • Can you learn art by yourself? well, when I was young we had museums and books to learn from, now you can go on youtube and find a ton of videos explaining you art basics.
I was lucky to attend an art school (show sketchbook from art school) and learned art basics there: line, shape, value, perspective, color, drawing, painting, sculpting, engraving… you name it!
but what was the most valuable thing in art school was feedback from my peers and from my teachers. once a month we had a critique session where all the group would come in front of your art, displayed on easels, and teachers were giving you feedback; Some were very harsh, and I still remember some hard things I heard about my art.
So now I want to give back what I received, but kindly! Because you can say things in a kind way and still give the needed feedback. What do you think?
This is why I have private coaching in my Gouache Membership and Kate and Eva were kind to give me permission to use their videos. Watch this video and see if that could be helpful for you?

I love that you talk about subjects that other UA-camrs avoid and you are honest that you went to art school. I also love your feedback. I know fro experience in your classes that your feedback is very very helpful

I earned a BA in Art back in the late 1970s. I had a professor who criticized my use of colored mat board. When I explained that I was on a limited budget and I am not hurting anyone, he said, yeah, Hitler thought he wasn’t hurting anyone either - outrageous. He was teaching watercolor, as a result, I didn’t attempt watercolor against until 2020. Instructors can be devastating at times. I love watercolor, gouache and colored pencil.
By the way, I enjoyed seeing your sketchbook, I adore your penmanship (I am left handed and have not used cursive writing since about the age of 12). I love your channel🎨👩‍🎨❤️

    Yes but it takes longer.
The benefit is you don’t have to worry about finding your own style

I assume you’re talking about professional artists because children draw objects and faces without learning from others. They draw from imagination. Everyone is a creative artist MO, but there are some more experienced than others. I’m a hobbyist that practices from imagination. I don’t wish to know about values or proportions, I just need to feel good. Thank you for your insight. Keep creating 💜💛💙
