Hey Dean thanks for the comment, the motor i used was a 2014 merc 4 stroke 60 hp i repainted it and put my own graphics on it.when i had a 3 blade prop it ran 51 mph but i switched it to a 4 blade because it performed so much better at low and mid range speed and still it runs 47mph top speed and yes you can barely hear the four stroke i worked on the boat from oct 1 to may 1 for 3 winters and was able to get the boat done so good luck on the build and have a great time on your build
Hey Brian, Thanks for posting your terrific video. Your workmanship is absolutely beautiful. I’m just starting a Rascal build in my shop near Seattle WA. Frames and transom are ready to set-up on strong back. Expecting an 18~24 mo build. Not a pro, but my third build. I have acquired a classic Merc 1500XS . However, thinking of switching to a newer 4-stroke like yours - less speed, quieter, more reliability. Can you tell me what motor you have, top speed, and your thoughts on choosing? Thank you. Dean
@ Hi Brian, my first set of plans came from Wooden Boat Store. They were printed in 2/3 scale, not usable, and WBS would not resize in full scale. I finally contacted Ken Bassett who sent me a full-scale set of plans. It was quite an ordeal ending in Ken discontinuing to offer the plans. Hope that helps. Dean
Hi Brian, I was wondering if you might have the complete plans for this, unfortunately Ken is no longer selling them as best I can tell/find. This really seems like a fun boat. What do you think of it so far on the water?
i had a full summer using the boat and it awesome on the water i had to build a small set of trim tabs for it because the boat needed to keep the nose down a bit if i could change anything i would set the transom at maybe 15 degrees instead of 12 other than that boat handles perfect
