- Hi guys, here’s a really easy and fast way that I carve simple cats with a Dremel rotary tool. You don’t need a lot of bits or burrs, and you don’t need a lot of artistic prowess. The video is split into sections as seen below and on the red timeline. You can make this carving with just about any rotary tool, and it shouldn’t take more than a couple hours. Let me know what you think!

Wear a mask, eye protection, and hearing protection, and consult your tools' manuals prior to using them to ensure safety. This video is for my insta @logscarvingclub.
If you're looking for more wood carving designs and videos, I recommend watching the video where I carve a greek paddle with a Dremel 4300. I use Walnut, Poplar, and Epoxy! The epoxy was a hassle but came out really cool. - Навчання та стиль
I’m using carving knives but this video is really helpful
Great to hear!
They are so cute!
This made for an excellent beginner tutorial. I didn't have any good hardwood so i cut off the end of a 2x4 and made one in about an hour and a half total using a combo of bandsaw, a 4.5 inch kutzall coarse shaping disc, a Dremel and some hand sanding. I need to get more small kutzall burrs. Being pine i dropped it and the tail broke off but no worries one of our cats is missing a tail so it is fitting.
Great to hear! I’ve also broken many carvings from dropping them
This is actually so cute 😭😭 the universe told you to make a cat for your cat 😭😭
dude that drem rotary tool is a godsend. I live in a apartment and dont really have room for a big scroll saw! Im totally investing for one of those. subscribed
Great to hear! Though I usually don’t use it for extended periods in my apartment so I don’t bother the neighbors
So awesome
Thank you!
Cute
Nice kitty, thanks for sharing 👍🏼
Thanks Paul!
This is beautiful Logan 👌thank you.
Thank you Mahendra!
Thank you. I will make them for my boyfriend’s birthday :)
Raising the bar for sure! I'm sure he'll love that!
Que bien!. Saludos desde Guayaquil-Ecuador
Thank you so much!
You’ve helped me a lot man. I’ve barley started n your videos help a lot thank u
Thank you!
Nice job Logan!
Thank you Jim! Appreciate it
Cute 🥰
Thank you Mette!
I've just visited your video page. Almost every video contains information that I need to get the most out of my rotary tool!
Thank you! That means a lot.
I love the little guy. I took my last post down but not in time. It sounded a bit snarky and I didn't mean it to, Great channel!
No worries! Thank you bill
Thank you. I don't normally use a dremel but you make it look so easy (suppose that's because your so good though). Take Care
Thank you so much Rita! It’s pretty easy to pick up, I learned off of UA-cam myself
😻. My Koala Bear loves this, as do I. Great tutorial.
That’s great! Thank you. Is that the name of your cat?
@@LogsCarvingClub It is, and is my avatar here. :)
Very cool man. You do a great job on your videos, and they are very interesting to watch. Wish I had the energy, time, and skill to do something like this.
You should try it out! It doesn’t take much time or energy
@@LogsCarvingClub it would take me a bit longer to do because of my disability. It does look like something I could do if I had a better place to work though. Very nice.
@@ChrisUnlimitedGames yeah that’s true, it’s tough to do in most spaces because of the mess and the noise
Just purchased a dremel tool today… any tips and/or encouragement appreciated !!
Good luck! I learned mostly from UA-cam, and just jumped into it with random projects. Takes a bit to get the feel for it
its so cute wtf
Thank you!
Well done. I was especially interested in the polish section. You said you watered it and then polished it again. How much water are we talking? And you'd have to wait for a day or so right? Im new to this but im so into it :D
Usually I just run it under the sink for as short of a time as possible to get all of it wet, then let it fully dry in the sun outside before I sand again
You can make your own buffing wheels from white scouring pads.
That’s an interesting idea, have you tried it?
@@LogsCarvingClub yes. I use them all the time to clean up my carvings. Only use white ones or they will stain your work. I use the part with the little screw in the end that you attach the small sanding discs to, can’t think of the proper name.
Dremel part that is.
Mandrel is the name of the dremel part.
@@chrisstewart1863 that’s a fantastic idea I’ll have to try it, how large do you normally cut the pads? Maybe I can transition to that since the wheels I buy get worn out very quickly
My GF is totally into elephants. Can you make a video on how to carve an elephant? ^_^
Anyways, I just found your channel and I already enjoy it! Keep up the good work!
Greetings from Germany!
Rob
Thanks Rob! I can try!
Thanks for all the videos, have really learned a lot from you. Just curious, how come you don't use a scroll saw to cut out your initial form?
I just like using the least amount of tools possible so that more people can follow along. I also don't have a scroll saw.
Well that makes total sense. I asked because I also don’t have one, and all the carving channels seem to have a bandsaw and scroll saw, and here I am just starting out roughing out shapes with a $5 Harbor Freight coping saw feeling like I’m doing it wrong 😂
@@Ferrous_Bueller I’m considering getting more tools but I kinda like sticking to the basics
how did you know what form to give for this cat model , very nice!
I think just hand drawing would be easiet since it’s a very simple design. Thanks!
Absolutely love this! Would you consider this a great first project for a beginner? I’m looking for an easy and rewarding first project as I familiarize myself with the awesome art of carving with a Dremel. Thanks for this video!!!
Yes absolutely, I think this is a great project to start, doesn’t require too much time or sanding and takes barely any wood
I suppose that you could use the dremel to do the rough out and hand carve the restl
Yes absolutely! Sounds efficient and then you can get the nice results of a hand carving
Hi I have a question I am a beginner in sculpting but I wanted to buy an electric dremmel which would be the most suitable pls? thanks nice video!!
That depends on what you’re making or doing, I like my corded dremel 4300 with a flex shaft for what I do usually because I carve in one place and for a long time
I have a dremel and I got the 561 drill bits. However I tried to use it on the wood and it’s barely getting into the wood. I’m not sure what wood it is as my dad found it in the shed for me but the dremel is very old. Could it be due to the old dremel model ?
Hi, what model Dremel is it? It may be the bit is dull or the tool is old. It could also be the brushes. I don't really know.
i have a question : (i dont know a thing about wood ) . is it possible to cut a branch (like 4 inches in diameter by 6 inches long ) off an oak tree and use it to carve something like this? or does it have to be dried out after i cut it off the tree ? im not sure where i can get the wood i need to carve .
You can probably cut 4 inches of green wood pretty easily with the 561, I‘ve never used fresh wood because I worry it’ll warp as it dries (it also needs to be dry to take up oil well). I also like cut hardwood because it makes it easy to get the feet of the animal level. Otherwise I don’t think using a branch would be a problem. I buy wood at lumber yards or Home Depot (or specialty wood stores). Usually you can get small amounts of hardwood that carve pretty well. I think soft woods are annoying but oak and other hardwoods would be good
@@LogsCarvingClub thank you bro . im gonna hit lowes tomorrow and see what i can find there . im gonna ask about their trash wood because i know they cut wood there . maybe i can find a few blocks around . also my friend told me to find some firewood because it's dry and easier to play with . peace
@@time2cclear great idea - I started with free cutoffs from the lumber yard bins as well
Another good place to get wood for 'small carves' (spoons, scoops, small animals like this) might be your firewood dealer. You can maybe choose your own bits.
Beginner here. Just found your channel. Do you carve everything with the dremel?
Yep!
@@LogsCarvingClub Looks like it may be easier than with knives? I may give it a try. Thanks!
please tell me what oil you used at the end of the video?
If it was clear it’s mineral oil, otherwise probably a beeswax and mineral oil mixture.
@@LogsCarvingClubthank you!
what dremell is this?... tnks
This is the Dremel 4300
Can you share the model cat picture?
No model, I just drew it
How long can a Dremel be run without burning out?
I'm not sure if you mean over all or running continuously, but that might be a fun thing to test on the channel
@@LogsCarvingClub I meant continuously. I agree, would be a fun test.
@@SewWhittle I usually only run mine about an hour at a time both because I want breaks but also because I’m worried it’ll overheat. Also my hands get tired pretty quick if I haven’t carved in a while
Bonjour,
Une fois terminé quelle dimension fait le chat ?
Hi Gerard, I think it was around 5 centimeters long. I don’t have this one with me anymore. I’ve made them in many sizes though from 2-7cm.
Merci beaucoup pour votre réponse.
Superbe vidéo.
What is that tool ?
A Dremel 4300
Vî-chnou
You might be able to use a knife, but that's not what I use so I'm not sure how difficult it would be. I'm guessing it was around 4 or 5cm long, 2.5cm wide, and 5cm tall.
@@LogsCarvingClub
@@LogsCarvingClubBonsoir et merci un peu tardif pour votre réponse. Je vais m’inspirer de ce que vous m’avez transmis pour ce joli petit chat. VÎchnou
Get yourself a scroll saw so you can cut the blanks easier rather than using the dremel to cut the shape out 😂 Nice work though, talent
These videos support that the less tools the better! Makes it easier for viewers to follow along without a workshop
I can hardly hear you .can you please speak louder
Sorry to hear that ray, I’ll work on that in the future
i get kinda disappointed wit these videos cause i search online on how tod o certain carvings and i start watching excited to learn but then i see its not done with a knife so i cant use the same methods. cat looks nice anyway
Ummm, cats have faces...
Haha, sorry I prioritized simplicity for this project

Not a problem - you did a great job, sans friendly feline facial features 😽
