Hi Kurt! Great video, as always! 😌
For years I’ve been an extra in movies and tv shows, but I could never figure out how to move up the ladder. This summer I finally did, and I even got my first acting job, and auditioned for many more (still waiting on the results 🤞), and next week I’ll work as an actor for the first time in a Paramount+ production. Your videos helped me get my confidence back, which I thought I lost a long time ago. Thank you for inspiring us, and keep up the good work!
    Lots of love,
    Viven Nagy

I’ve binged your videos, Wendy Wright’s, and have heavily considered joining The Houde school of acting, even planning to pay for a class all for the passion and drive I have to act. It’s so inspirational hearing people like you and many others speak on the topic of hardships and roadblocks but NOT giving up. Acting is not a dream for me anymore, it’s my career. My future that I want to invest everything I can into and meet wonderful people like you and others who share my passion. Thank you and I hope you all have an amazing day and NEVER GIVE UP!

Sometimes when you are not booked after an audition you never know how close you was. Maybe you were the fafourite of the director, but the client wanted an other look... It happened many times I got this kind of informations later. Just go on then your time will come.

Well said. I feel the exact same way, I want to invest time with others who share my passion. But I`m stuck. And Norwegian. Hopefully I resolve my day-to-day issues and actually can pursue my childhood dream someday. Also everyone has been saying that it is impossible and I shouldn't even waste a second pursuing this. I also hate everyone.

There's a recent video from the SAG-AFTRA Foundation with the 2022 Emmy Award-nominated actors where Jake Lacy ("White Lotus") shared a story about a friend getting advice from Tom Hanks, which was, "Good things come to those who persevere." I've been holding that idea close, almost like a mantra, ever since.

Thank you for sharing Kurt! Always love your videos. I'm on my 6/7th month of losing the mental health acting game with the near quitting/not even putting myself forward for auditions after coming SO CLOSE to a well paying acting job that would have freed me from a long served catering day job, to just falling short as the runner up, getting nothing & beating myself up. I'm 29 years old - been going at it since 22. Your story struck a cord with me - as your stuff always does. I'm on a holiday at the moment, when I come back - gonna give it another proper shot. Hoping I can look back at this comment sometime in the future and see that I've progressed & can remain as one of the acting survivors. 🤞 I hope you have a great time on set and that the filming goes well Kurt. You've earnt everything you've got and you're a blessing to all actors old&new for guidance here on the UA-cam interwebs. Have a great rest of the year!

One thing that is great about these career advice videos Kurt Yue gives us, is that they provide mentorship for those of us up-and-coming actors who do not have mentors. I imagine that the famous actor from Michigan who thought about quitting had at least one other actor in his corner advising him to keep going and to not give up. Kurt and other actors are providing mentorship to countless early career actors, and perhaps even veteran actors! Thank you so much for you guidance and advice, Kurt. And Kurt, never give up! You got this!

  • @Kim.K.Edwards

This reminds me of a time several years ago I thought about quitting. A friend of mine invited me to her church, and some of the curch leaders were prophesying…I never been to this church never met these people before-but I am a Christian and saved and have a relationship with God. One of the leaders called me up and began prophesying and revealing things about me that the only way anyone could have known is if they were with me in my room!! One of the things she said was there is something you are planning on giving up that I can hear the Holy Spirit saying “try it again” well there was only one thing that I was pursuing that I was thinking about quitting and that was acting.🎭 It was a powerful service for me and I never forgot that encounter with the Holy Spirit! I didn’t end up quitting and I believe that same year or maybe several months later I booked my first local commercial, fast forward years later I booked 2 talk show daytime tv shows and that same year booked my first speaking role on tv. I always think about had I quit, look what I would have missed! All glory to God! Anytime I got down I would always think about that and that would keep me going! But here I am years later contemplating quitting… I haven’t booked anything in years, life has been really topsy-turvy for me. I want to say just about every actor I’ve worked with on short films/student films etc have upgraded to agents/managers and booked co-star roles and even a whole part in a movie/movie posters and such and I’m happy for them but it makes me feel like I’m getting nowhere and makes me question if I should even continue. I don’t think I ever questioned quitting as much as I did this year…up until this video I thought it was just me, thank you for sharing your story and your experiences! Think I will definitely keep going!

I started 4 months ago. Your videos prepared me for this journey. I’ve been fortunate to be cast for some short films and a music video. Early stages of everything plus one theatre class and one screen acting class to be always learning and honing. This Thursday, I audition for one of 18 spots for a year-long course. I’m scared but I know if I don’t make it, I can continue with stuff here in my city.

I remember your video of “every audition is a win” and that kept my spirits high but like u said it does take a toll on u when u don’t book. But after watching this video and knowing that it happens to all of us and to continue to stay positive definitely motivated me. I appreciate your words and great advice! I saw this video and you are soooooo right in this. I am a little bit older 44. I have been an extra for a long long time. And I did theaterclasses! I played prof in musicals but still had to begin at 0 with movies. Hearing musicals are different you are not a movie actor. About two years ago this changed Ted lasso came to the netherlands and I became the stand in for the biggest actor in that series. After putting that on my resume things started to change. I don't do the big stuff. But I now get the small parts and I'll keep building towards that. I am working on my english. Would love to go international. But will see.
But it is like you said. I don't even know how many times I thought I'' am out of this. For me your story is part of me being now. I finally found that fire again and now I am giving myslef 100 %
Never give up and find an easy jo to pay your bills. I had an child so it was difficult. But you will find away!

Hi Kurt ! Thank you so much for inspiring us and for your encouragement. Just curious , how do you pay your rent and bills when you didn’t book any on 81 auditions ? How do you let GO those auditions that you love the role because you can relate to it 100% ?

Always good advice! There are so many frauds out there making a living off the naivety of green actors, so hearing it from someone who’s actually working and experiencing the grind is very much appreciated.
One thing I’d like to know is, we often hear this from all ends of the acting game. Never quitting seems to be the theme of overcoming the up’s and downs of this industry. Outside of never quitting, it would be great to hear a more detailed journey of what kept them from never quitting. Was it the luck of booking a job? Did they meet someone that changed their path? What else was it that kept them from never quitting?

Im feeling frustrated due to I can’t find casting calls in orlando, i have tried facebook groups a lot but nothing, it’s really empty out here. And im really worried because since i started im not sure if im going to succeed because im an immigrant without working permit or SSN. Im scared of booking something and getting rejected because of it.
