I don't know if Max realizes it later in the playthrough or not, but when you're putting gems into treasures, you can press a button (For Max, it's the X button) and it'll actually bring up a chart that tells you what multiplier bonuses all the different color combinations of gems give you. Max seems to be thinking that you get the biggest bonus when you have all different colored gems, but actually, that's only true if you have a treasure that can fit five gems. For all other treasures, the biggest multiplier is given when all the gems you put in are the same color.
The look on Max's face after the village fight is priceless, It's like oh boy this is going to be rough let's go. I saw that there is a professional difficulty that's going to be brutal.
I'm most of the way through the castle section, and unless the third act goes insanely off the rails (and I have no reason to think it will), this might be an early GOTY contender. I never felt as strongly about RE4 as a lot of folks did, but with this remake: I get it, man. This is a masterpiece.
Oh and quick tip to save on knife health, if you knock an enemy down and they are about to transform into zombie mode instead of doing the R2 finisher prompt just hold L1 and shank them like the old game.
Honestly the 2nd run does feel tacked on. Probably was gonna copy RE approach with two different scenarios instead of four. From what I know the original was Claire A/Leon B. The remake replaces it. I’m sorry OG fans but it’s true. Similar with how REmake replaced the OG RE. I can’t remember where but I read that they did change it to Leon A/ Claire B. The fact that the opening of this one confirms it. Including the knife….which idk kinda wanna break on purpose to Doc. Like I feel story purposes just feels right. Marvin saving him one last time
Nowhere does it stated that the knife was from Marvin. It only stated that it's from RPD which doesn't really mean anything since all the knives you can picked up in RE2 remake were pretty much identical. I hate when people trying to force this stupid headcanon like it's a fact.
It’s not forcing anything. Picking up extra knives was a gameplay mechanic. Just like herbs were away to give health…..herbs that grow in every game that are native to Raccoon City? Getting bit never happens but you gotta die somehow. So gameplay yes story wise? No. Leon’s only wound is from the gunshot. So with the knife, you are given it by Marvin to literally use to immediately to open a door. That’s a fact. Only cutscenes are canon, gameplay is not. Here is an example from the OG RE4. Leon starts with the silver ghost. Now normally on the first play through you still have it come the boss fight with Mendez. So it makes sense when in the cut scene, Leon uses it to shoot the barrel. But what happens when you play the game the second time, whatever handgun you have carries over. So you could have the Blacktail at that point it’ll still show the silver ghost. Hell you could sell it and it would still show up there. So canon wise Leon’s only handgun was the silver ghost. Now you could argue, maybe the shotgun, because he grabs it in the house in the village that triggers a cut scene and the fact it’s fixed. Also a lot of promotional art features it. Cutscenes are always are priority when it comes to canon in games though. The only weapons he uses are the Silver Ghost, Leon’s knife, and Krauser’s Knife to free Ada. That’s it. So it’s obvious it’s Marvin’s knife. They even show Marvin in the intro as someone he failed to help in Raccoon City. Hence his views that being a cop died that day. He feels like he failed his job protecting people, and no, Claire doesn’t count. She basically protected herself. So based on that intro knife came from Marvin someone he failed….Handgun from the other Kendo…who’s brother he failed. Ada is obviously the big one but she’s not dead so. I enjoy they weaved those small details into the lore
Well I can say one thing for sure. Two actually, 1. The remake is absolutely amazing and 2. It gives me comfort to see I'm not the only one stepping on the bear traps without realizing, especially the first one lmao.
I was pretty surprised when I realised that the ganados can actually get stuck in bear traps too. It's a super neat detail that alleviates one of the many frustrations I had about classic gaming. You're trying to kill an enemy while avoiding countless hazards, but it just walks right through them like they don't exist, sound familiar? Making the enemies able to be affected by their own bear traps and trip mines makes for a far more engaging, believable, and cohesive game world and I just really appreciate the attention to detail that is *all over* this game.
Yeah they are actually going full power on making these remakes, no surprise they must have made a fortune with them. A couple of years and we get RE 5 remake i'm sure
It was such a smart game design choice to add defensive options with the knife, while also making it harder to stun enemies. Reloading is much more tense in this version.
This is for later in the playthrough as I watched him stream on Twitch but I really hope Max will utilize the loose command more. He accidentally shot Ashley and died because he always keeps the tight command on Ashley even when all the enemy ganados are running up all over him, Ashley's AI in tight is still going to try to stick to Leon so it makes it harder for him to shoot since she's in the way.
Luis being an Umbrella researcher makes sense in the remake given that he mentions seeing a sample of the T-virus in a lab in the original game, before it cuts to the ganado executioner entering into the room. Makes me think Capcom intended more for him which was cut, or just to add further to the dubious mystery around his character.
Traditionally, I watch Max's whole playthrough before deciding to buy RE games, but he looks to be having too much fun that I had to get the game asap 😸 Now, I'm going to 100% this, and more until SF6 arrives
Flash bangs are life savers as well as ammo savers. The moment that recipe becomes available you buy it! Then most of your Large resources go to making them. Instant kill exposed plaga, stun enemies and that stun state gives you access to knife instant kills. Way too versatile to skip.
I really love the difficulty options they give you. Like for me I've never played RE4 I've only watched max play it so standard is perfect levels of difficulty for me, but hard-core seems great for veterans of the game.
This game is amazing... The moment where Saddler is talking to them and they can hear it I was like wow this game is special... The combat is just so fucking fun... I'm gonna cry its so good
The amount of deaths I've had from getting stun locked at wall or getting punched into a stun mixup death is ridiculous. I guess they figured since Leon can combo enemies off of wall splat, they should have the same capabilites as well
For someone who by luck managed to get this game a week early, last friday, i can promise this remake is worth every penny. The replayability is amazing. Already on my third playthrough 😍
I loved how they tried to integrate the Duke into the story of Village but having this almost abstract merchant in 4 is quite iconic too. Leon does not seem to mind this teleporting dude ^^
Professional difficulty unlocks on game completion (You also get your performance grade upon game completion). Disables auto-saving and you can only parry with a perfect parry.
They have to do something about that facial animation for Leon when he gets his eye’s gouged in. No scream, mouth damn near closed. It just looks jank.
I really like that they still left a lot of the camp intact in this remake. I remember hearing Leon talk about his trauma in the teaser trailer and thinking "Oh no, this game's gonna be no fun..." But even with the darker tone, there's still a lot of fun characters, cheesy one-liners and ridiculous set pieces; all the things that made me love this game.
I was legit SO ANGRY when I saw the dead wolf in the demo. I was so "hOW cOuLD THEY DO MY BOI DIRTY LIKE THIS NOOO" So now I have a recording on my console of me finding the actual good boy and me running around him in joy and excitement. Bastards pulled a fast one. Nearly gave them a 9/10 just for not having the good dogo.
This game is so so so good. I just got about halfway through chapter 2 tonight, and I’ve loved every single second of it. I hesitate to say it’s better than the OG game, but it being so close amazes me. Capcom needed to get this one right and they really really did.
I played this on my ps5 and did not expect the controller to talk and do some of the features it did. Kind of made the experience worth it on console. Planning on picking up the steam version later but I enjoyed the extra little details they did with the controller.
Capcom trapped so many of us veterans of the OG game into picking Hardcore and getting our shit kicked in. Hardcore is definitely not the same thing as the OG and it really shouldn't be chosen first even if you have played the original unless you like pain and suffering.
On my first play through on hardcore I read the description and was like yeah, fair enough I’ll go with this.. I got my shit rocked so hard that I ended with like 40 deaths and I had nearly 0 ammo after the mid point castle-ish area of the game, def agree with you (really thought it wouldn’t be that bad after playing the original at least 10 times, I was wrong)
2:27:35 - There was a snake.. hiding under a box.. in plain sight... and it gives you health back.. I guess you could call it a "Solid Snake." I'll see myself out now- xD
Really loved how the remake change the map layout and make it so you know start at the end of some areas from the original and go to the start of the og map in this remake
After i finished the game, i found out that the enemies can not actually hear leon run from afar or walk so you can just run up behind em or if they are close in front and get a stealth kill not too sure if they can hear gun shots either
Dropped by to leave the Like, but this is one series of videos I'll only actually be watching later. This is one game I absolutely want to experience for myself.
Wow. This is RE2 and FF7 REMAKES levels of incredible! Capcom did it again… And Max, Seriously!? That Bear Trap was more dangerous than the actual ENEMIES!! 🤣
i thought i would hate the auto sort button, but when im surrounded and i panic-open my suitcase, its nice to get a quick clean up before i plan for what to do next.
A perfect remake, minus two cut things, I really enjoyed. Everytime you think you know what happens next they surprise you. Really hope they do a remake of Code Veronica in this high a quality. If they do RE5 which isn't too far out of the question, CV needs to be done first as it is essential for three characters.
I was playing the demo for this first and then started playing the game proper. I was thinking to myself, "I don't know; it doesn't seem real... It might end at the Village fight." Lo and behold, it didn't end at the Village fight. Max experienced this idea of going into familiar territory and yet so different with FFVII Remake and I feel that same feeling with RE4 Remake. One of the most exciting remakes I could ever play.
I learned it in the most annoying way possible. I had killed every enemy, and had just finished searching the area. Heading back, I decided to take the bridge because it would've obviously been faster than going around. It broke while I was on it, so I died and had to do the whole fight over again lmao

That and his refusal to disarm bomb wires
just reached the first merchant, jesus i LOVE this game, and i LOVE that capcom clearly loved it too or it wouldnt have turned out like this
I wonder if Max knows that you can keep the jacket if you beat the game its one of his costumes you unlock.
These intros are amazing, just like a cold open from a TV show before the Dood opening credits 👌
I knew that bear trap would be the cold open. Love it!
Played 10 hours of this game….it deserves all the hype it got.
Same I was fighting sleep last night cuz I didnt wanna stop playing lol
This game is amazing... The moment where Saddler is talking to them and they can hear it I was like wow this game is special... The combat is just so fucking fun... I'm gonna cry its so good
Villagers doing some horse sh*t mixups with punch and grab like its a fighting game 😂😂
The amount of deaths I've had from getting stun locked at wall or getting punched into a stun mixup death is ridiculous. I guess they figured since Leon can combo enemies off of wall splat, they should have the same capabilites as well
Villagers are op. Capcom plz nerf them.
For someone who by luck managed to get this game a week early, last friday, i can promise this remake is worth every penny. The replayability is amazing. Already on my third playthrough 😍
Third playthrough? 😮
It's finally here! I honeatly can't wait to see what crazy mods the community comes up for this one.
We both know what they'll do with Ashley and Ada.
@@sebastianramirez9090big breast
I loved how they tried to integrate the Duke into the story of Village but having this almost abstract merchant in 4 is quite iconic too. Leon does not seem to mind this teleporting dude ^^
I have to thank you Max........
For warning me about that bear trap.
Max: "First playthrough, we live with the consequences of our actions." This is indeed the way.
1:31:10 that dynamite was amazing.
having played RE2 on launch day; it is WILD to see how far the graphics have come.
I’m actually really happy that Max combed his hair to be like Leon. And with the coat he actually looks pretty badass.
Just say your gay
You can appreciate aesthetic without being attracted.
That coat _does_ look pretty good.
@@fernandosepulveda7297 your gay
@@fernandosepulveda7297 you’re projecting cause there wasn’t a single thing they said that could be taken as being gay.
@@ceoofceos5219 lol I know I'm just trolling.
Professional difficulty unlocks on game completion (You also get your performance grade upon game completion). Disables auto-saving and you can only parry with a perfect parry.
First.....
Till this day he keeps forgetting that there is a beartrap in that pathway.

"I'm gonna cry." / "Story of my life."
They have to do something about that facial animation for Leon when he gets his eye’s gouged in. No scream, mouth damn near closed. It just looks jank.
Wish theyd remove it entirely, you don't die from your eyes getting gouged out
Max : i'm not gonna step on any trap
Trap :YOU FELL FOR IT, FOOL! THUNDER CROSS SPLIT ATTACK!!!
That bear trap always gets him 😂
1:17:24 that really good feeling when you meet a dear old friend after many years
Can't wait for the "Max steps in all beartraps" compilation.
2:18:09 "No-OO!" Shotgun in the chest. 😂
Lady was On. Tune.
I can't stop laughing after hearing the "No." it almost sounded like she had auto tune on.
I was legit SO ANGRY when I saw the dead wolf in the demo. I was so "hOW cOuLD THEY DO MY BOI DIRTY LIKE THIS NOOO"
So now I have a recording on my console of me finding the actual good boy and me running around him in joy and excitement.
I guess you could call it a "Solid Snake."
I'll see myself out now- xD
I like how the RE remakes added strong languages to make them more realistic and intense.
Meanwhile Jill on RE3R feels like a angry teenager.
Really loved how the remake change the map layout and make it so you know start at the end of some areas from the original and go to the start of the og map in this remake
Max has the most severe tunnel vision in games I've ever seen.
But the treasure map to see treasure locations on the map!
Immediately run past all the treasure. 😂
Can't wait for Max to replay this game and not only JJ but also Ripley scaring Max from behind
Capcom is on a massive roll lately
Capgod retribution
lol must have stepped on 2 bear traps total and im at the mid-point of the Castle.
Wow. This is RE2 and FF7 REMAKES levels of incredible! Capcom did it again…
And Max, Seriously!? That Bear Trap was more dangerous than the actual ENEMIES!! 🤣
I knew 4 would be great. It was made by RE2's dev team, unlike 3...
i thought i would hate the auto sort button, but when im surrounded and i panic-open my suitcase, its nice to get a quick clean up before i plan for what to do next.
Dude that dynamite death at 1:31 was hilarious 😂
1:31:16
A perfect remake, minus two cut things, I really enjoyed. Everytime you think you know what happens next they surprise you. Really hope they do a remake of Code Veronica in this high a quality. If they do RE5 which isn't too far out of the question, CV needs to be done first as it is essential for three characters.
This is amazing it's just about as exciting as it's probably going to be when ff7 remake rebirth comes out awesome playthrough
There needs to be a "bear trap counter" when he finishes the game XD
the music at the merchant is actually from the chapters menu results in Resident Evil Revelation 2 that you get at the end of every chapter
Another masterpiece from capcom 🎉
LET’S GO!! Been waiting for this 🤘
I love Max reaction when he heard the dog whining 😂
Probably the coolest thing was the fact that they Could destroy the bridge when u were on it. I learned that the hard way
I learned it in the most annoying way possible. I had killed every enemy, and had just finished searching the area. Heading back, I decided to take the bridge because it would've obviously been faster than going around. It broke while I was on it, so I died and had to do the whole fight over again lmao
That village fight at the start was some real shit.
It was very cinematic. Lots of close calls, quick decisions, and fluid action.
The village reminded me of the village in Revelations 2
