This is awesome. Was just watching summiting videos of Mount Hood and wondering what I need to do it. I'm already out hiking and backpacking but planning to do this next!
Great video! Hope to do Hood soon. I've done Rainier, and several technical climbs in the Sierras (I'm in California), but I absolutely would only do Hood with professional guides when I come up there.
Not impressed. You didn’t stress the importance of mastering fundamental skills such as self arrest, self belay, avalanche awareness, navigation, etc. No mention of objective hazards such as rock fall, snow bridges, and avalanche. No mention of registration or what to do if there is an accident. No mention of the importance of going with an experienced partner with good judgement. No mention of the importance of telling someone where you are going, when you will return, and what to do if you are overdue. Overall I feel this gives a false sense of security and may even be a disservice to beginning climbers by omitting such important topics and oversimplifying the climb. Please focus more on safety if you’re going to do videos like this.
Absolutely agree 100%. I'd recommend joining the Mazamas and taking their basic mountaineering course as preparation. They cover all the techniques, gear, and above all else the safety needed when climbing. Plus, you get multiple conditioning hikes with increasing elevation gain and duration each week plus hands-on training with belaying, top-roping, and basic self-arrest techniques. Best $250 I ever spent, but that was 20 years ago :-) Naively attempting Mt. Hood with little or no preparation is a sure way to put your life in real jeopardy -- have fun but take it seriously.
This is the most even-keeled good, cool, helpful, 90s kid ever. I hope he’s just as cool in real life.
This is super helpful, planning to do Mt Hood this year. Thank you!

What about summiting in the summertime when theres almost no snow?
It is not the 2nd most climbed mountain in the world. It is not even the second most climbed glaciated peak (kili is more popular and has glaciers).
I do it in the summer time for get the winter time
Don’t buy from next adventure. They don’t stand behind their products, they just want your money.
