  • Giaconda Chardonnay is revered for its power, complexity and age-worthiness. By world standards they’re not expensive (circa $130AUD) but they can be very hard to get your hands on, making them exciting acquisitions. The Giaconda vineyard is in a little (but excellent) region in Victoria called Beechworth, at the foot of the Victorian Alps. Here, I discuss how these great wines are made, open three vintages - 2017, 2018 and 2019 (sadly, no wine was made in 2020) - to get some context on how they are ageing, and to find out precisely what it is that makes them so thrilling.

Any review you see on my socials ( / erinllarkin , this channel and my website (www.erinlarkin.com.au) are never paid for by wineries or anyone else: the wines are featured on their merits - because they have risen to the top in tastings. If you try the wines I recommend and you like them - good! Because so do I.

A Faraday cage? 😄You're funny. Got me laughing for a good minute here. Especially the little pause before your brain managed to grasp a workable(?) association LOL. Wonderful. Thanks for that.

Awesome coverage of the recent vintages. I wonder if these notes will be enough to help me pick it in the lineup this year @ the Chardonnay Festival. Fingers crossed.

Loved the video and comparison across the 3 vintages. IMO the best Chardonnay in Australia and holds its own against the best worldwide.

I think Giaconda Chardonnay is indeed the Grand Cru of the Australian chardonnay. To me it can compete with some of French burgundy premier cru, comparable to Meursault. Not quite to the level of Arnaud Ente ( or even his brother Benoit). The Grand cru burgundy is still the pinnacle of Chardonnay. The ones I have had the opportunity to drink, Leflaive is definitely a step above.
