I discovered Charly Bliss on KEXP doing songs from Young Enough. I instantly liked what I heard and when Blown to Bits came up I was hooked. I immediately bought the album. It was a little synth heavy for me but the songs were just so fucking good. Guppy is fun and I dig it but I think Young Enough we be their highpoint for me and that's ok. I always want bands to be true to themselves. Make the music they believe in. Sometimes this leaves me behind. Happens with a lot of bands but I wish them well and who knows, I'm hoping there's still enough to this record that will pull me in. But as long as I finally get to see them live I'll be a happy old man! 💕
There's a reason I've come to associate Charly Bliss with the feeling of experiencing summer in your final years as a teenager - liberating, but tinged with this beautiful, wistful melancholy. Guppy era feels like 17 - rowdy, invincible, on the top of the world. Young Enough feels like 18 - maturing, coming to grips with the world and your place in it. It's only right that Forever feels like the last summer of your teenage years - 19 at last.
