I was a fan of 30STM up until This is War. After that, it all just went downhill so fast. I saw them at Pinkpop Festival, and I was so shocked by how they acted. It wasn't a show, they used their time on stage to "refine" their set for the bigger festivals, like we were there to see them soundcheck. Long silent pauses in between songs, talking into microphones that where connected to their ear pieces so we couldn't hear them. It was so weird, and frankly, so disrespectful to not treat that crowd like they were fans of theirs. Just some people standing by while they were figuring out how to lay out their set.
My uncle also worked backstage and told me about how Jared acted there. He was rude, disrespectful, treated everyone around him with his nose in the air, everything around him disgusted him.
Later, I went to a "concert" (inside venue, not many people there, it was embarrassing) of them after Up in the Air came out with my then best friend because she never had seen them live. All we said to each other the whole evening was: my god, this is weird. Why are they dressed like that? WHERE THE FUCK IS TOMO? This isn't a band anymore, this is a duo. And a very fucking weird duo at that. They should just retire and go back to their weird cult. And then push that island far into to the ocean so we never have to see them again.

Thirty Seconds To Mars have one of the greatest debut albums of all time. That self-titled album is what they should've continued to evolve their sound off of; it was progressive, heavy, experimental, the lyrics and vocals were great, as was the production. Instead they've just become Ford commercial music.

They didn’t and never had a style, they wanted to do that fucking Emo thing when that awful genre was in trend, and then when that trend ended they didn’t know what to do so Jared concentrated on his acting stuff again.
30 Seconds To Mars was a vanity project from Jared that somehow managed to do well because that fucking Emo thing was in trend at the time.

True 30STM hopped on the trend, but that’s not necessarily a poor reflection on anything, it’s actually smart and it worked; to a degree. They were still generic posers but at least a good album came out of it. There’s no denying that From Yesterday and Bury Me are amongst some of the best rock anthems from that era.

It really breaks my heart to see how far Thirty Seconds To Mars have fallen. The new album won’t quite top my WOTY list (because I have heard Ubiquitous by POM and The Album by The Jonas Brothers and I think both are worse), but unlike America where I didn’t hate that album anywhere near as much as everyone else and can defend a few songs on it (I still think it’s bad though), this album I cannot defend in the least bit. Avalanche is the only song that left any kind of positive impact on me (it’s a good song imo, but not a great one), and the rest is just abhorrently bad garbage. The switch over to Pop has been a disaster from start to finish and while I hope they return to what made them good in the 2000s, at this point I don’t see it happening. Jared Leto is too far up his own tushy to make anything less than nonsensical, awful, and boring music. I say this as a genuine fan of the band’s old work, Thirty Seconds To Mars…get better…or go away forever.

I remember attending a 30STM concert years ago and Jared openly admitted in the set to forgetting how to play and sing the majority of his bands earlier works. He couldn't remember Oblivion when the audience requested it lol.
30 STM is a band that's heavily fallen from grace. They've completely forgotten what they were supposed to be about and the magic that made their earlier albums work well is now a shell of its former self. It would be better now for them to either fully admit they are now an experimental-pop act at best or to just hang it up so not to further disdain their earlier music.
With that said, I think it would be cool to see you do a video about their crash and burn process Luke. I think a lot of what has happened with Jared and crew needs to be showcased and highlighted. If the band doesn't like it, well who cares cause that video would rack up views for sure.

The thing with Maneskin is, they are a very talented young band who write great lyrics in their native language (Italian) and can write interesting music - look the album they were popularising during Eurovision, Teatro d'ira - hard rock, metal in some places. But then, they became uber famous and came to the US. Apparently they don't have someone to tell them that they don't need to listen to everything American music industry tells them, because Rush sounds so manufactured for the most parts, like a group of writers gathered and decided to write the most generic "young person rock". Also, English is not their first language and it shows in the lyrics - they are a looot mor simplistic compared to the Italian ones. The band themselves have said that they have written most of the songs while in LA and a look at the track list reveals that the only songs they have written alone are the three Italian ones, which for me are the best out of the album.

When Legends Rise did far more damage to their reputation than this one will ever have a chance at doing.
It was undeniably successful but it split the fanbase in half and chased away most of the die-hards that were fans since the first album. In comparison I haven't seen nearly as much disdain towards LUTS even if it's considered one of the weaker albums. (Though it's not as disliked as WLR and IV)
Though if we're being real it's only the first three albums that people love, Everything else just kind of exists.

As a Eurovision fan and someone who found Måneskin through Eurovision, I get a lot of the criticism for Rush (even if there are some parts of it I quite like). One thing that drew me to them during Eurovision (that I didn’t realize until I listened through their whole discography) was that they kept their typical style for Eurovision. Eurovision songs can have a reputation for being the most polished/widely accepted version of an artist in order to generate interest, but Maneskins song Zitti E Buoni still fit in with the rest of their discography at the time (up until Teatro Dira V1). Rush did feel like it was more of an attempt to spread their sound to a wider audience, which makes sense given their rise to popularity, but was a noticeable shift from some of their past stuff. I’m still very excited for future releases.

Thirty Seconds To Mars pretty much ceased being a rock band with Love Lust Faith + Dreams and switched genres to dance-pop. There were maybe a couple of songs that still could be classified as rock, but they continue to commit to that direction. Their guitarist Tomo got tired of having nothing to play and wound up leaving the band. I'm honestly surprised Shannon still sticks around since I hear little resembling actual drums on their current material.

Being honest, I thought “Stuck” was ok and at least them going back to the 2013 sound (definitely not my favorite but better than anything since) and yeah the full album is just a big blob of bleh. It’s really disappointing how a band that used to be one of my favorites is decaying into a Maroon 5-like shell of themselves. I’ll still at least recommend their first two albums to people. Speaking from the perspective of someone that is a Puddle Of Mudd fan... Ubiquitous might very well be the worst album they've ever released. Though idk since Volume 4 has songs like "Spaceship" that I hate with a burning passion.
I mean really, The album isn't all bad but it's a complete mess of stitched together demos and B-Sides that sound unfinished. It's clear that all of the production/writing credits went to Cash & Cobain and nothing else. I can't even give credit to "Dance With Me" and "U Wrekd Me" because those songs were recorded/mixed/mastered back when the band was still with Geffen. And surprise surprise... They're the only songs that are worth hearing.
Granted, I still wouldn't put this album in the Top 5 Worst of the year, But it's not good.
At best I'd recommend plucking out "Dance With Me", "U Wrekd Me", And maybe "Candy", "Man In The Mirror", "Complication". And then just seeking out the 1994 Stuck EP instead, That EP already had "Poke Out My Eyes" and a ton more songs worth hearing over this mediocrity. (And after that I'd check out 1997's Abrasive but call it quits afterwards)
As far as the actual list is concerned:
Staind - Confessions of the Fallen | I haven't listened to it yet, But I did like "Lowest In Me" and "Hear And Now"
Butcher Babies - Eye For An Eye... | Nah I ain't touching this
AJR - The Maybe Man | Never heard anything from AJR, And I'd like to keep it that way.
Maneskin - Rush! | Not for me, So idk
Waterparks - Intellectual Property | Yeah idk what to say tbh
Godsmack - Lighting Up The Sky | Nah, I quite liked this album and think it's better than When Legends Rise, 1000hp, and IV. Sonically it's nothing crazy but lyrically it hits pretty hard and I legit cried while listening to the title track. My only gripe really is that "Red, White and Blue" doesn't fit with the rest of the tracks thematically. Outside of that it was my comfort album for 2023.
(That and my friend used the title track in a video that mirrored my quitting video and made me ball my eyes out, So that also happened)
Hardy - The Mockingbird & The Crow | I haven't heard this since the beginning of the year, But I liked it a fair amount. Hardy's far more talented than Kid Rock by a country mile and nothing on this album is as laughable as everything he's made.
Thirty Seconds To Mars - It's The- Idgaf | I don't even need to listen to it in order to say that it's total garbage.

this isn't for this list but a great Alt Rock/Rock album that came out this year was The Love Still Held Me Near by City and Colour it's beautiful but not a lot of people outside of his home country of Canada know about the album and i suggest anyone reading this to check out that album and the rest of his work

"Today is the greatest day that I've known". Sounds like he tried to quote a line from The Smashing Pumpkins and could'nt even be bothered to get it right.

Ay, it's the time of the year again, niceeee
5 - Ah, Maneskin. I'd have been one of their biggest defenders... if it was for their Eurovision song. I still think Zitti e Buoni is their best song to date and I stand by that. For this album however... eesh. It feels basic to the core, it kinda stripped them down from the sound they were more known of and made them look pretty bland for a rock band. I lowkey wish they'd go back to their sound prior to them going for the american market because they were honestly very decent. And yes, I'd still defend the living hell out of Zitti e Buoni and not just because it won Eurovision. But for the album and especially their TikTok trending songs? Hard pass.
    4. Admittedly I never heard this album but from the snippet I heard... yeah I get your point. It sounds like an album in the area of "who was this meant for?" category. Also is it me or does this band feel like another case of Maroon 5 where the main singer is drowned in autotune and the rest of the band being gradually replaced with even more autotune and machinery?
    3. I rarely trust that the supposed last album of a band's career would ciment their legacy as one of the greatest acts of all time because in several cases they either feel rushed or underwhelming... or highkey pretty bad. Not surprised this also happened to Godsmack.
    2. Again, never heard about this album, let alone this dude. But looking at the affiliations and everything else involved... yeah I get why this is high up on the list, especially if even the performance itself is awful or subpar.
    1. Alright so, is this another popular candidate for the worst lists of 2023 I suppose? Again? For real though, everytime I learn about 30 Seconds to Mars recently it feels like learning out of my own will. Also funny enough their recent albums come down almost always on worst lists for many creators, so... consistency? I guess? Anyway, fuck this band if you can even call it anymore a band, fuck this album and especially fuck Jared Leto's existence.

A7x and Snooze Ticket have released by far the worst metal albums I've heard in a while. And this is coming from someone who LIVES FOR weird and experimental metal. They just don't do it right, there's zero musical depth beneath the surface.

I did like some of the songs on Confessions of the Fallen, like “In This Condition” and the self-titled track. Other than that, the rest of the album is pretty much filler.

I honestly thought Intellectual Property was about on the same level as all of Waterparks other albums. There were a couple songs I thought were good, and a lot that’s wasn’t my thing. They’re definitely meant for middle schoolers and high schoolers (which isn’t a bad thing- it makes me think about how much I liked Cobra Starship and FTSK back then). I also feel like they have been trying to do trending things since their first albums-hence why they’re not my cup of tea. I still don’t think it deserves to be on this list though.
