Home team was fantastic. Billy so funny, Jack was the cool guy and Dinah was tall, smart and hotter than a blast furnace. Lots of great guests. Gloria Loring, Meredith MacCrae, Peggy Cass, Catherine O’Hara, Andrea Martin, Lotto girl Faye Dance, Mike Darrow, Nicole Morin (smokin’ hot!), Michelle Finney, Tiiuw Leek, Robin Ward, Dave Broadfoot, Vanda King, Julie Amato (another hot tomato!), I could just go on and on! My favorite game show of all time. It must have been good because it ran for ten years. Great memories of watching this with my late brother Joe, thanks for digging this up and sharing it on UA-cam!
If only Riff Markowtiz hadn't destroyed the master tapes of these shows...or so he claims, we could watch this again or they could have been released on Digital Media. But he also claimed that the tapes for Hilarious House of Freightenstein were destroyed and they finally got a release, so maybe there are copies lurking around somewhere in some archive. I think this one of a handful of Canadian Shows from the 70s that would be a hit for fans of 1970s Canadian TV.
Catherine O'hara went on Letterman one night and Paul Shaffer played the music they would use for this show. Letterman asked her what that tune was and Catherine said "it was the theme for a show called 'Party Game' starring celebrities from Hamilton Ontario."
OMG Childhood memories Used to watch on Friday nights from Erie Pa thanks to our our high tech rotor-antenna. Serving Hamilton Toronto and the Niagara Peninsula this is CHCH TV11!
This traveled over the border to the Western New York area when I was a young lad, and I loved Party Game, even though it was more sophisticated adult fare than what I would have fully understood. That being said, so many element make this a home-run game show that really showcases the ability that CHCH in Hamilton could put together on a shoestring budget. The "Bond Street" theme, the set, the way the camera lens changes the aspect rating when the titles play, the quality and rapport of the players (the home team was a truely cohesive team). Dinah Christie (sigh!), Captain Jack and Billy Van. Fabulous! Where do I stop? Party Game was fun using a straightforward premise, and I wish I could view complete episodes.
Likely March 22, 1978. The announcer says to stay tuned for something about income tax, which narrows it down to tax season. Also, the Leafs were playing the Islanders that night. CHCH games were on Wednesday nights, and the only Leafs/Islanders Wednesday game in that time frame was March 22. The Leafs did face the Islanders in the playoffs, but I think all those games were on Hockey Night in Canada (CBC), including the Wednesday game (game 2) on April 19. (The Leafs greatest triumph of the 70s -- beating the Isles in Game 7 of the quarter-finals -- would be on April 29, only 38 days after this aired. But I digress.)
Where to start?! The slick 70s décor?! Billy Van's "natural" and leisure suit?! The prize, a "Water Eze" for maintaining all of the potted ferns in your 70s home?! The whole thing looks like a set-up for wife-swapping! RetroOntario rules!
It really pains me that so few episodes of "Party Games" remain. Even as a little kid who didn't get the charades cues / and witty gags, it really did feel like a party watching this show growing up, across the border, in Buffalo. Dinah Christie was always the one I remember best, though I was aware of Billy Van and Jack Duffy from other roles in Canadian comedies. Amazing that Burt Bacharach's "Bond Street" has only really been used here prominently. The only other use of it that I am aware of is in the awful 1967 "Casino Royale", and it is buried in that dog's breakfast of a film.
so question, what was the format of the show, ie. how many rounds? what was the prize for the winner and etc. I'm sorry the show went off the air 5 years before I was born and I've never seen a full episode.
ahh...so this "party game" episode aired just before that CHCH ID you just posted (which aired right before that "you and your income tax" special)...cool! i was still hoping that the restructured CHCH would do kind of a "throwback" to the old flower logo it had, but apparently, their current logo (as well as those of its former sister stations like CHEK and CKPG in BC and CJNT in montreal) is just a slight variation on their 2007 logo...
one of my favs growing up too ... billy capt and dinah .. .awesome show. awesome ppl. .. them daze are gone. grrrrrr .. typical. now all there is .. is cop shows and reality tv... and fat and ugly ppl giving good advice to ppl who can't afford it .. lol .. oh and cnn .. the fake news network.
I used to think that this was the wildest and grooviest show!

Happy 50th anniversary, Party Game! Great memories. I nominate Billy Van for Canada's Walk of Fame. P.S.

Uncle24Bobby "We don't care if they WON!!"
I want to go back to live in the 1970's ... forever.
Me too! They should have simply never ended.
Don't forget the host, "That Party Game man, Bill Walker!"
One of the game shows I grew up with. It was a hoot! Party Game aired on CHCH-TV in Hamlton ON in the 1970s.
Man! Wasn't Dinah Christie a babe?

Wow that's Luigi Mario!
Danny Wells from the Super Mario Bros. Super Show, the live action with Cap. Lou Albano.
YThat show lasted 11 years I was fortunate to see that show when I was a kid it's good there is still some clips of it on youtube.
Always good to see some Canadian celebrities on this show.
And Norm MacDonald comes on at the end to tell us about the hockey game. That guy's voice was classic.
The name is bond, bond street by Burt Bacharach
I remember her also..think I was in my early teens and watched this show every day.Wish they would replay it if tapes still exist.
A portable hose? What about a simple spray bottle.
I use to watch this showas a kid and always thought Dinah Christine was hot... I was right.
Hot, smart and tall. She might have had a better career if she was shorter.
She was hot.

No fair. It would be awesome to meet a guy named Chuck Wagon.
Who's that danny guy with the guitar Ive seen him on different shows back then.
Danny Wells, a veteran actor who has been on shows including The Jeffersons as Charlie the Bartender.
He also did a national ad spot - where he sang a jingle! - for K mart in the US.

Don't forget all those stupid singing shows and the death of late night comedy.
