This makes no fucking sense. We live in a world where playing video games can be a legitimate job. Achievement Hunter, Markiplier, Funhaus, PewDiePie, Etc. Not to mention the fact that he could make a Patreon, or work hard on Twitch and make tips. At least on Patreon people are actually paying for something like T-shirts, signed merch, exclusive content, and so on. Asking for 20k so you can sit on your ass and play video games so you don't have to work hard to earn your money, gives a bad name to people who actually work hard to make their money gaming. He shouldn't just be handed $20,000 to start up his career. He should work hard and pay his dues like ever other youtuber/streamer/gamer.

here's what he should have done. Got a job. saved up at LEAST $5280 preferably $7920 With which he would store in a bank account. He would then go to a bank, ask for $20,000 to be paid back over 10 years. A bank near me offers $20,000 for 10 years at $220 a month. So he will use the $20,000 to do his stream stuff... but pays that bill for 2 years using the money he saved. For 2 years he would need 5280 to never miss a payment but I think 3 years worth of the savings + a year buffer to get back into working again is a better bet. If he is truly invested in spending $20,000 of his own money, he should do that, but in a way that makes it affordable for him to actually do. If it works out then $220/m will be easily paid off for the rest of the 10 years with stream money, if not then he needs a job. He took his chance and whether it works or not at least he had the opportunity to do it.

The main issue here is the guy's kickstarter video is also his audition tape for how he acts and comes across on camera. And he doesn't seem interesting or entertaining in any way. He really needed to make a demo of himself doing a stream. Any idiot can stream a game they're playing. People only tune in because the person doing it has a funny or interesting delivery.
Plus looks like he already has a twitch channel. So... He can't do this in his spare time after work or something and build a following?

hi everyone! I have no charisma or sense of humor, but I play a bunch of video games so I think I have the skills to start twitch streaming. For some reason I feel like I need $20,000 to buy fraps and a real computer! And I think you'll give it to me even though I haven't streamed a minute of game play in my life and have no proof that I am even watchable.
I worked with this guy for about 6 months. He was the sweetest! It's so nice to see him being so confident on video.

Dark Souls is hard unless you grind which most players do.
Now that I think about it, streaming won't even allow him to make specialized content in the first place, if he was creating videos then that'd have a timeless aspect to it, but he's just wanting to stream which is one of the lowest forms of content if you aren't specifically doing it in very hyper-focused streams that were planned for days in advance on the stuff that'd happen in it.

A lot of people have done this format and style applied to various topics (some definitely straight ripping him off), so it hasn't really been a niche for a long time. It doesn't really matter what he does, it's his 'voice' that's unique. Unboxing pencils (old) and being pedantic about peanuts (new) strike me as very similar high concept non-ideas that are only entertaining because of the delivery. Critiquing viral trends is basically the same thing as this. The substance ultimately hasn't changed much. I think if there's one thing you *can't* call his content, new or old, it's generic.

I know a guy like this, I worked with him for a few months. he wanted to be a streamer and he decided to take a 10,000 loan to buy a streaming/gaming PC. He then got his girlfriend pregnant, lost his job (made redundant) and when he finally got his 10 grand monstrosity of a streaming PC it was so heavy it broke his computer desk. and I don't know if he ever actually streamed with it.

Well to be fair he's asking for $20,000 Canadian so that's really like $37 in real money.
All good streamers come from humble beginnings and treating their streams like a hobby. See Vinesauce for example. Probably the best streamer group on Twitch, they started off humble. This guy is begging people to basically buy him a personality because he sure has none. At least get a fucking job and you'll be able to fund your "stream dream". Start streaming with whatever you have, try to be outgoing and keep your viewers entertained, and who knows, you might get big. But begging for money on the internet is NOT the way to do it.
Why doesn't Kickstarter implement a $10 fee to upload a Kickstarter project? That could weed out a lot of the garbage and shows that you are serious about your project when you start it. That $10 could go to a charity of your choice for example. Good God.
