CTV News is Canada's most-watched news organization both locally and nationally, and has a network of national, international, and local news operations.
Albertan's need an independently conducted inquiry (3rd party, with police assistance as required) into both the source of the E-Coli outbreak and the failure of the health inspectors to enforce their own public health orders at the kitchen. Why was enforcement not pursued? Were the inspectors in any way pressured to not enforce their protocols? The kitchen had deficiencies for months. Over 300 children have come down with the illness, which can be fatal (remember the incident at Peter's Drive In?), and can cause life changing organ damage, particularly for young children and the elderly. Albertan's need transparency, the province is ultimately responsible for doing it's full diligence to protect public health. Any inquiry must be reportable to the legislature, not to cabinet. No hiving off of the report for editorial scrutiny by cabinet... straight and full disclosure to the legislature !
How and when did this company get the go to prepare food for the daycares?? Was this outsourced by the government to save money at the time?

A private company who had a contract with the daycares. Not connected to the government other than who the hell is inspecting their kitchens and food preparation? It better not be a family member or some other kind of corruption. Sadly, we’re seeing more and more of cutting corners for profit etc.

What is the name of the company that prepared the meals? Have they been halted from doing anymore? Is everyone they provided food for been notified?
I run a child care facility as well and we prepare all our meals on site for the children. We NEVER trust someone else to cook for them. Part of my program is healthy eating and cooking. We teach them about germs and proper kitchen practices. We have built our entire daycare around teaching the children proper life habits. This includes knowing what you are eating and where it comes from. Ecoli could never happen at our site. I CANNOT figure out for the life of me how all these kids got sick by accident! The only way this could happen in my daycare is if someone deliberately put it into the food!!

Not all daycare centers are created equal. I remember a daycare center that couldn't keep track of kids' medication. Some kids would go home with some other kid's prescription! In some cases, I wasn't impressed with some of the staff, and the managers seemed unaware of what was happening under their noses. There's a lot of blame going around, but I doubt anybody's got an answer to the problem of bad management.
Pass policies that allow a parent to stay home and raise their own children. Make families affordable again.
She works for the profiteers, why would she do that? She wants both parents and their kids exploited in the mines as soon as possible.

Well I would say that was a very human response from a mom. This is unacceptable and someone is negligent and we must never let it happen again. Period. Let’s heal those kids and their families.

I am heartbroken about these kids. I wonder if it was a negligent government deregulation of daycares or the beef industry? It reminded me of the Harris government’s deregulation of the water system in Wakerton, Ontario, where ecoli was found. Businesses want profits, that’s why we need governments to lay down the safety rules and inspections. $2,000 is not enough.
Another example of our early childcare system being a piece of junk. For whatever reason we think our children’s development isn’t important until they’re 6. Daycares have turned into kid storage for the most part. No teaching, no warmth, no proper nutrition. They just keep them alive and feed them as cheaply as possible. Then we wonder why our youth are struggling with physical and mental health. Nobody to care for them during the day, nobody to feed them nutritious meals….geez, I wonder. This is a societal problem not political. We need to value our kids wellbeing
Mine are already adults, even after 6 they are still treated the same in our severely cut back childcare and education system. Taxes keep going up, quality of care goes down. Ask Why? Where are all the funds cut back going? UCP United Criminal Party.
My wife stayed at home with our children from their birth while I continued to work to provide our income. We decided to raise our children/family ourselves, the old fashion way...we sacrificed for the well being of our children.
Wait, what?..... They don't start school till age 6 in Alberta?

Today however it is virtually impossible to raise a family on a single income and is also why we are seeing a decline in family size (birth numbers). It is truly heartbreaking to see young families nowadays struggling. I always thought our quality of life was supposed to increase for every generations hard work.

The Government is responsible for oversight and is fully responsible by way of either not being diligent in that oversight or not creating a system that can be. The outbreak happened because it was allowed to happen. They will not take responsibility because they never do. This is not a Partisan problem but purely incompetence within the entire bureaucracy of Government.
You are placing 100% responsibility on the government. But why are you not placing any responsibility on the business that created this outbreak? It's like blaming the government because they didn't stop some driver from speeding and causing an accident.

My wife ran a dayhome for almost 10 years. Allowed my wife to raise our children in a safe environment. The government subsidizing daycare was the end of that. We can't compete with government run program when the parents got 600 per kid. You can thank the federal government now when they are the only providers.

We bought his act until we found out that his gov't had only inspected 29 of 360 homes and even those homes were informed before their inspections happened. Let's all wait and see if the fifth estate finds her gov't cut the inspections budget for these day care providers just like Ford did in Ontario. Tears are cheap.
