  • Welcome to my cherished farm, nestled in the beautiful landscapes of Portugal!
After four weeks of quiet absence, I am thrilled to reconnect with you all! During this time, the weather has been rather capricious. Some days chillier and wetter than expected, while others unseasonably warm for this time of year.
In between the fluctuations of rain and shine, I've seized every opportunity to immerse myself in the pruning tasks. It's a skill I've understood in theory, but as they say, practice makes perfect. And here on the farm, where every tree holds a story and a purpose, honing this craft is paramount.
Take, for instance, this almond tree nestled closest to the homestead. As I set to work, pruning with purpose and intention, I strive to apply my skills without overlooking the aesthetics of the results. But I prefer to prune sparingly rather than excessively, so I decided to give this branch a chance...
Next, I tackled these wild, neglected, and untamed plum trees, that were presenting a significant challenge. While some may suggest drastic measures, I found myself torn. How does one choose between the two?...
So, for now, I've decided to leave both untouched, allowing time to reveal the best course of action. Nonetheless, I carefully pruned them to reduce excessive branch crossings, mindful of those pruning best practices.
Then there was the fallen fig tree, a casualty of the elements that I've shown you in a previous video. With care and precision, I began this significant intervention by removing the lowest branches and encouraging new growth. This will be a lengthy process, but it's a labor of love. And I hope this fig tree thrives, serving as a testament to the resilience of nature in the near future.
Of course, no pruning endeavor is without its uncertainties. As I wield my shears, I can't help but wonder. Have I made the right pruning decisions? Will my actions nurture or harm these beloved trees? Well, at least to mitigate any potential damage, I've applied healing paste, a gesture of care and reassurance for their well-being.
I hope you've enjoyed this glimpse into my world of tree-tending. Each branch trimmed, each decision made, is a testament to the bond and the deep-rooted love I feel for all trees.
Until our paths cross again, may your days be filled with the gentle whispers of rustling leaves and the sweet promise of growth.

You are off to a great start. Stepping back, looking the whole tree over, and consulting the instructional sheets you put up are the best first steps.
I'm not sure what is going on with the fig. Is the lowest limb split? Did it produce fruit last year? If it is still alive and producing fruit, put a stout post under the limb to lift the branch tips off the ground a few inches. Your aim is to get the post to carry most of the load.

About the fig tree, the lower limb is now supporting the tree and was what prevent it from falling entirely. I'm cutting all the lower branches to clean it and to incentive the grow of new branches on the other parts of the tree.

@@AlongThePathsOfNature I understand now. That is a good approach. Force the growth hormones to the healthy portion of the tree. 😊
The tree has a massive root system, so there is much potential for a quick recovery!

Thank you! In the future you'll see the completion of the fig pruning on another video.
