Taranaki Windsurf Wave Classic 2018

- Got my first semi-sponsored trip over to the wave mecca in the Taranaki area of New Zealand. George, Forrest & myself went across the ditch to join in the fun of the 2018 Taranaki Wave Classic.
We didn't get epic conditions, the wind was mostly 5-15 knots but we did get some waves so if we couldn't sail there was still surfing to be had.
In case you didn't get the joke, a few months ago there was a news story of some surfers getting shot at by some angry locals up the north end of New Zealand. Kiwi's are really friendly people, just don't surf their waves and you'll be fine ha ha!

Paul, I still have the mylar tape on both sides of the tear. Seems to be holding it fine however I do have some Patrik logo stickers coming soon for all of my sails. This will mask it quite well. Keep up the great work buddy!

Great vid. Very light winds though - make no mistake Taranaki goes off!! James and the Carbon Art crew made this place the best and most enjoyable place I have ever windsurfed. Look forward to returning someday.

WInd looks so light! Never knew you can ride small wave kits in such wind.
Can you catch a wave and do turns even with 5~6 knots of winds?
5 to 6 knots is not enough for wavesailing. Normally I would say you want at least 10 knots for decent float and ride. The problem is when you bottom turn you have no power in the sail so it is tricky in very light winds unless it’s cross off.

I will go get 105L board and 6.0 sail, look out for 10 knots or more.

Another great one. Amazing how you make it look like you have 2 camera angles ! Or do you ? Do you fly the drone from ashore or a boat ? Looks like it has amazing range if you’re ashore !
Olivier Magere thanks! I only have 1 camera just spliced 2 different waves together. I fly the drone from land, I can fly a few kms away from shore if I want.

Great video mate - cool shots & tight editing. A few more knots of wind & that place would be unreal. Were most guys on ~5.5m sails & ~90 litre boards?

Nice to see some light wind(real world)wave sailing, we do a lot of that here but we use slightly bigger boards...

The water temperature didn't seem to be very 'welcoming' so flying the bird could have been the most sensible way to spend the day, wasn't it? You better come to the Mediterranean to swim and fly your thing next summer, we are drone friendly!
