  • I bought the cheapest cooler at Costco that looked halfway decent. Did it really leak the first time I used it? I tested this Coho 24 Qt Injection Molded cooler for myself and in this video I share the pros, cons, and how it compares to a much more expensive cooler like a Yeti Roadie 24.

    Your gear reviews are hands-down the best on UA-cam. You explain the product, you do side-by-side comparison, you put it through the paces, and you show it in real life Situations…I.E… how many cans can actually fit, what’s left over for ice… Etc. I especially appreciated the comparison of hot tenting woodburning stoves.

    I've had a couple of coolers with glued on glitter. 1st, a 1 gallon water jug I carried on a farm tractor. After about a month, the push-button water valve broke. 2nd Item a 6 pack cooler with handles similar to a water jug. Fixed the cooler by epoxying ropes for the handle. I epoxy a piece of foam (yoga mat) to the bottom. That seemed to help insulate the bottom from heat rising into the lunch box. Not pretty, but it didn't need to be. So, in real life, it's easier to tip a small cooler over than replace a valve.

    I thinkI’d want to see how it does in 80-degree weather with no shade. I’ve yet to find a cooler that does what it says. On a fixed income, that’s an important point for me. Thanks for a thorough review and I may consider this as a win and will purchase it. I hope it doesn’t fail me. I like the size - I’d rather have a cooler that’s taller and not longer so it fits in my car with less space. Time will tell, eh?

    We bought one a couple of months ago. We have a remote cabin an hour truck ride and an hour UTV ride to our remote cabin. I put it in the freezer a few days before we go to the cabin and everything stays frozen till we get to the cabin. We other coolers for other food as we go there for 10-15 days at a time.

    At 15:51 you're talking about injection molding and show the gray perimeter around the mouth of the cooler. Any idea what those four 1.5 inch slots are used for on the gray molding? There appears to be a matching groove on the underside of the white molding just beneath the slots. I don't see any accessories for the cooler and these slots must serve some purpose right???
    I just got this cooler and I'm impressed with the features at $50!

    • @theoutdoorempire
      @theoutdoorempire  8 місяців тому +1

      The slots don't go all the way through, so I'm pretty sure they are just there for the manufacturing process. Probably places for tools to clamp the two parts of the cooler together.

    Wondering if the bigger one they sell (i think its 55qt) is equally as good. I saw you cut it in half in another video and it looks to have great insulation. This 24qt is too small for any need I'd use it for and I'm looking to upgrade a blow-molded igloo I have.

    • @theoutdoorempire
      @theoutdoorempire  7 місяців тому

      For the money the 55qt rotomolded Coho cooler is a good deal. It's not the best at ice retention compared to many other coolers I've tested, but it's still plenty good for most folks.

    I guess my only issue with these coolers is that they’re marketed as a “day” cooler or something to keep your stuff cold for basically a few days..they do work (I have the small rtic version) but my Coleman will also hold ice for the day/few days as well 🤷‍♂️

    • @theoutdoorempire
      @theoutdoorempire  8 місяців тому

      Thanks for the sub! So far so good, no issues. I think the only way those plastic parts that attach the handle to the cooler will really break is if they get bashed on something and crack. Even then, they might do their job. I don't think it's a big deal, it's just not as smoothly integrated as some other coolers I've seen.
