Which color would you align yourself with on modern Kamigawa?

Probably Green - the history of Kamigawa is a beautiful one, a history I would be proud to defend.

Red or white - because being a power armored samurai sounds like my dream job.

I play mardu, and NEO has a WEIRD offering of multicolor cards. There are relatively few, but two of 24 are tricolor. All of the factions are interesting but it's hard to tell what they'll be like after what happened in the set's main story. If I weren't a planewalker in mtg arena, I think I'd lean slightly towards the Imperials and the Futurists just so i can do safe research/practices

I lean Jeskai normally, but on Kamigawa it would probably be closer to a Red individual who happens to like morals, order and bettering himself, but doesn't push that on other people. Though the mechs of the Futurists are very tempting.

Tradition vs Modernity is an age-old cliché about Japan. I mean, it's talked about like this conflict between the new and the old was either specific to Japan, or was of a special kind there. But it's neither. The old and the new are in conflict everywhere, all the time.
As Sabaton put it, "It's the nature of time that the old ways must give in". Which coincidentally was in their song about the battle of Shiroyama, now that I think about it...

My problem with magic is, that from the color philosophy side, i like red the most, but the red artworks are usually the least interesting to me.

Yeah it can be a bit of a disconnect there

I have a similar problem in that in game every color seemingly needs to be like Black. None of them can truly embody Whites and Greens ideas of mercy or serenity because you have to defeat your enemy by force. And then they seem hypocritical to me. And Red can be as kind and charismatic as White but because of the game mechanics they have to be volatile and violent in some way. Imagine Red healing it's friends with love magic or Black being so selfish that it is careful and defensive like Blue or White, unwilling to cut it's own flesh.

@@KarnodAldhorn I mean, no colour is really against using force. The bear (green) protects her children fiercely, and the zealot (white) can use any means necessary really to achieve their "greater good."
But of course, even then we have cards like "pacifism" which I'd say capture that mercy well enough.
Red I can agree with to some extent. Some emotions are kind of lost for the sake of gameplay mechanics, and that kind of sucks.
The black angle is interesting though. Selfishness is certainly a trait of black, but so is unbridled ambition, where you are willing to sacrifice most anything to win. I think it'd be cool if we got to see some new gameplay mechanic that embodies black's selfishness.

    • @gunnellagann
      @gunnellagann 2 роки тому +3

@@KarnodAldhorn that's because you see black as the "evil, violent and deadly" color, when in reality all five colors are just there to show HOW someone prepetuates power, violence, mercy etc... so it's just natural that all can be ruthless and all can be merciful, it's just that those attributes are used for different purposes

I feel like the set had a great mix of two color combos as well. The spaces in-between the 5 colors. Like the UW pilots and mechs, upholding peace with tech. or the RW Samurai showing the honor in freedom and order, as well as the glory in single combat.

I wasn't too stoked for Neon Dynasty when it was announced because it felt like too much of a shift from normal MtG. However, I have come to appreciate the precedent this set has put in place for the future.
This color breakdown of ND also really helps me enjoy the set. It certainly won't ever be in my top sets list, but it is a fun look at the color pie.

I find it interesting how Neon Dynasty makes Blue a chaos based color instead of order for once by focusing on the pursuit of knowledge to its natural extreme. In that way Red and Blue share thoughts in this world. I always was a fan of the "Be Freed from Gods" story japan likes to do. Since in an ideal world people can either work with them (rather than depend on them) or use their own potential.

Also, I'm a bit displeased by the goshintai being called "shrines". A goshintai is literally a kami's blessed body, a vessel destined to receive a kami's essence. It's not a place. They would have made more sense as Relic artifacts, even though I realize they're probably a nod to the shrines of old Kamigawa.

Its (surprisingly) an Israeli song called Erev Shel Shoshanim (roughly: An Evening of Lilies). It even has lyrics in Hebrew.

This is a very interesting setting, it has me leaning more towards a red/black outlook which is pretty unusual, I'm usually drawn in the opposite direction, a Selesnya sort of outlook.

    Kamigawa's mana rotates counterclockwise.
That's how it's influences affect one another, even though they're mostly mono color.

So Kamigawa is hell to a Bant character due to the divide between the blue and green Factions with white being the only unifier. So a Bant character would struggle to be reconcile the differences a bit.

Lol, just as I was typing about White being the tie between Blue and Green, and then you mentioned it!
The funny thing, in Japan, Blue (Progress/Technology/Modernity) and Green (Tradition/Nature) are bound together by White (Religion), such as when a Shinto priest blessed a new car or blesses a new site for construction.
By working with the environment, we ensure the success of progress.
Technology and civilization also become parts of nature too. Kami being able to inhabit homes and shrines in homes. From there, blessings flow out into society. Additionally, a mistreated man-made object can become sentient as a tsukumogami.
While Blue may create the new systems, it is Green that sustains it.
Therefore, in a world where animism is real, Green is FUNDAMENTAL to the success of an evolving Blue world.
