Those single note trills he does where he taps the next interval really fast is very interesting and I never, have ever heard another guitarist accent sustained notes like that on guitar. Lane was next level.
well you sure hit the nail on the head it says even more for these players because they did so much in so little time but only if they had more time.... theres no telling what they could have been able to achieve
Thanks so much for posting. Agree hadn’t heard him trade w a horn player before so extra cool. Like many, I listen to everybody and no one had his technical vision. Always mind blowing. Thanks
It is so tragic and coicidental--perhaps--that many of the greats in all facets suffer great woes or have a life cut short. I guess it could be seen that it is better to of lived little with great impact rather than linger with none. - I am feeling philosophical today.
It's one of my favorite phrases as well. If you decide to take the time to learn what Shawn plays note for note, it will completely blow your mind. Makes Hendrix look like an amateur.
i know my two favorite guitarists of all time shawn lane and jason becker both had terrible things happen(shawn's death and jason's ALS) if only either of them could play they'd be so amazingly good now and maybe get more recognition that they diserve two of the most underatted players ever
@@signupsanj of course it is me. I literally just drove 14 hours from DC to Memphis, went to my apartment, showered and ran over to our rehearsal space. The other guy sat in for me before I got there which was very nice of him.
Man you are blowing my mind on that live album, been into it this month, this clip and all! you guys sound so free on this.. I miss playing with people like crazy. can't wait to get back into a space with my lot.
notice that he was annoyed by the stares of the guitarists in the front row trying to cop his hit so finally he just turned his back "froze them out of his mind" and just blew off his steam. May he rest in peace. It must be very tough to go throughout ones life being "that good". We guitarists are a jealous bunch of vicious critics towards our peers.
It was our rehearsal space which worked very well at the time as it became a wonderful finished studio in the end but way after we had disbanded. We were wedged into a corner just for this clinic. The room is much bigger and we were spread out and rehearsed for the POT tour there which was fun. I even had a private room for my personal studio up there and am grateful to this day for Les helping us at the time.
What if Shawn would have played a 7 or 8 string instead of a straight up 6? I know I'm thinking about things that would defy the laws of physics but one can dream haha the playing is perfect as is as far as I'm concerned, never played a note he didn't mean to and had mountains of soul, technique and awesome.
From 2:58 - 3:10 the run is saying i pour my heart in to this shit and then it switches to the pentatonic ( 3:10 - 3:21) and its like but when it comes down to it ill scrape any guitarist across the floor. You can see it in his facial expressions.
@@seanrickman70 awesome, the question was posted ten years ago, here I am watching this video now and just noticed this reply from two days ago from the man himself 😄 Great work Sean
a jam between shawn and jason becker is what i would like to see, but unfortunately only in my dreams :´(
❤️❤️❤️
one thing I love about shawn lane is that he doesn't put notes in the music just to fill it, every note has a meaning
Indeed.
Just checked for pitch consistently with the REH video, and it's right on. The tape has not been sped up, this is as it happened.
The greatest in music history❤❤❤

You hear the beginning and you're all like aw man, it's gonna be all like smooth jazz. But then it gets awesome.
Shawn was a music phenomenon!!! I adore him!!!!!!!!!

He's a beast - I love his hybrid picking technique.
hes an angel

Do not touch Hendrix dummy!
Hendrix kind of was an amateur, especially compared to guitarists today lol

The video makes me feel like Charlie Chaplin is gonna just walk up at any moment.
Sean, isn't that you behind the kit? You are equally a beast on the drums. From what you recall, how was it jamming with Lane?

Niice! How long would rehearsals like this usually last?
Insane
2:03 it's an eargasm really, what a phrase... genius!
increible

What in _god's_ name was he doing playing in someone's unfinished garage extension

thats the craziest bend ive ever heard at 315
que brutal ...
Do you know what guitar he is playing here? It is definetly not 750xl😀
Looks to be a jackson archtop soloist from that time. I find it funny how he put tape In front of the headstock
3:17 sick!
07:30 is this for real. That was simply amazing
apparently that guitar has paf pros
yes most of his guitars did,........

That really doesn't sound like a Shawn mentality.
Alien Shred via Alan Holdsworth via Charlie Parker. Maybe somebody can tell us where Charlie got it, but I don't have a clue.
don't forget Art tatum,...lol
Nope. Just Shawn.
@@haroldstoneley2346 he was absolutely inspired by allan holdsworth and charlie parker
Is that Dr. Cox on sax?
UnU rip
The ending solo seems slightly more 'tame' than a lot of his others, maybe it's just me though, it's still totally ridiculous, in a good of course.
Who's the drummer?
me ;-)

Wow - don't think I've heard Shawn trading licks with a sax player... they sound so similar too - MAN is Shawn rippin this up... holy HELL!!!!!!!
he would. be great if he hit 60 percent. of what he streched for
Whaaaat???
He hit 100% of what he stretched for
I don't think any other guitarist has achieved this 100%
He destroys Jimi. Jimi is not nearly as good a guitar player as Shawn, and he would criticize you for not caring about the music.
Shawn loved jimi. He and Eric johnson played the best Hendrix covers of any monster guitarist
