Couldn't agree more. In the 70s I started out with wood, then fiberglass, then game getter aluminum, tried carbon, back to cheap aluminum like Easton, jazz and tributes. Now I'm shooting Autumn Orange aluminums offered by 3 Rivers because that's what I couldfind at the time. For 20 years now I shoot the cheapest Easton aluminum arrow shafts I can find. They're easy to build with tube cutter, easy to spine, easy to find in the grass with a metal detector, plenty strong, and they are more accurate than I will ever be. Oh, and they will kill just as good as any.
Hi, did you try bamboo arrows?Would you tell me what are your opinions about bamboo arrows. Do you think bamboo arrows are good for hunting? Thank you.
I like the aluminum, because of the price to straightness ratio as well and use cheaper but not cheap Chinese aluminum Arrows. Unless I was building arrows like Jason that are forwarded heavy and I would switch to carbon fiber. Bonus I do not need to worry about the weight of the arrow with aluminum.
@@matthewyu3531 Avoid the Really cheap Aluminum or ones with fake Vine reviews, these are poor quality arrows I got some unknown brand off Amazon, and they were pure aluminum no other material mix, so they were way too heavy for any bow without a cut in for the arrow side at all, so you had to use an arrow that was light in spine and was heavy enough for the poundage. These are the types of bows that do best with a solid Fiberglass or a hardwood arrow like an English longbow with micro cutaway shelf at most or a more traditional recurve Flat-limb Longbow with no side cutaway/micro longbow cutaway but can have a shelf.
Just started 3-4 years ago. Hah I lost quite a few arrows already shooting deer and target damage. I use victory archery arrows rn and I started fletching my own and built a few dozen to save on money. Thanks for the unique perspective and wisdom.
When my buddy was buying a new bow this year the shop actually steered him towards cheaper/mid grade shafts. It was his first bow and the shop tech said you’re probably gonna lose a couple and these will still kill deer just as good as an expensive shaft. Just a lot cheaper to replace and if you want to get more expensive down the road when you get more proficient then go for it. Pretty good advice if you ask me!
I changed from high end Grizzlystik carbons to wood shafts 2 years ago and haven’t needed to look back. Same performance way cheaper and pretty fun to use wood shafts. Something about them! Definitely more work though..
I am of the same opinion. So long as the arrow shoots reliably and is proper spine for my bow and doesn't break or porpoise, I don't care how much it costs or where it came from. Right now I have a couple dozen carbon from china that shoot well, I think the most expensive was $20 dozen.
Spot on. I've been Purchasing The Gold Tip Blemishes 12 pack Bare shafts the last couple seasons.. Fletching them myself and playing around with different weight inserts. I buy the GT Blemishes like you buy Climbing sticks 😂. I'll have Arrows the rest of my life. Another good one Jason 👍🏻
14:47 cheap aluminum arrows and a heavy head worked great for years, only reason I shoot carbons are they're more resilient for stump shooting they don't bend and stay bent lol. I shoot the cheapest thing I can get my hands on and hunt with a minimum 630 grains no matter what the shaft is made of 😊 Edit... I always buy cheapest BUT check the inside diameter so my weighted inserts fit !!
I bought some cheap bamboo arrows, 50 bucks for a dozen on Amazon.I also picked up some cheap carbon arrows also on Amazon. They both shoot good, especially the carbons although the woodies tend to be more forgiving of imperfections in my form or they just like my bow better. The carbons are straight and are at least 15 or 16 grains per inch so they are thick walled and plenty heavy with just a 100 grain head. i think i paid 25 bucks for six of them. Both the bamboos and carbons take quit a beating being shot through hay bails and the occasional miss where they end up in the dirt. They will kill an animal just fine and cost me hardly anything as arrows go. I just ordered another dozen of the bamboos because I just like the way they shoot but I wanted to try both wood and carbon and not spend a lot of money , and 'm glad I went the inexpensive route. Eventually I would like to try some Douglas fir shafts but these bamboos have been shot into 2x8 several times ( not on purpose) without cracking so im impressed and they will be going to the woods to hunt with.
I completely agree Jason, the components and broadheads far outweigh the importance of the arrow shaft, however finding an arrow shaft that comes stock with quality components out of the box is my number one priority. All of the new safari tuff carbon arrows come with the best components out of the box that I’ve used and their shafts are durable and straight as can be, I don’t think you can beat them for the price. I’d definitely look at them when you decide to switch away from your gold tip supply.
I’ve been shooting the Victory V- force v3 350 spline with.003 straightness for years gets the job done for me still shoots my nocks off if I shoot more than 3 shot group.
i bought cheap arrows (40€ for 12 pieces, complete) on Aliexpress and tested it at 20 meters with my barebow (30#@30") Accmos Predator 4.2 mm, 31" , spine 800, 4" parabolic feathers, straigt : 0.003 absolutely efficient arrows, fast stabilisation and allows to follow the fllight i think most arrows come from the same factories and are classified from 0.001 to 0.006 and the painting or logos are the only differences with Skylon Accmos are Carbon Xpress arrows the archer makes the difference
I've killed 12 deer since I started bowling hunting 15 years ago, and have never once thought about the shafts I shoot. It's always just been the cheapest I can get from the local outdoor shop.
My dad is using a Brown Bear all fiberglass bow that was made by Bear Archery as a 45 pound bow model only unitil 1969 and his was basically new that I paid $75 for online e-Bay then found for cheap a bow sock from the era unsold from e-Bay for about what a new bow sock would be priced at. He has yet to use the bow but most of the issue is his back.
Couldn't agree more. I shoot GT blem 500's. With the correct spine for the FOC that I'm using the arrow doesn't matter to me. Accuracy and a sharp broadhead is all that matters.
Actualy I get a build perimeter and work up what arrow closest meets the characteristics that I want then I will settle price with my budget. Jeff has some awesome build info so I am taking as much info from him as I can. Had to step down bow weight so shooting 39# at my draw black hunter. His builds are right in my alley so to speak. Obsidians standards are 6.3 gpi and rather afordable. Though I think they had something going about not selling 6 packs had to buy 12 cause the 6 packs were out of stock?? So far these are looking good knocks are tighter than the gold tips the carbon is smooth inside dia 145 so gold tip parts wont fit. Uses S knock. And the 100 GB brass invert is a bit funky it's a hair bigger arond than the arrow but tapers down to the arrow and it exposes 1/4" of the larger diameter brass. Looking at the Simon's swamp shark and it comes back over the shaft so this may work great . It looks like the obsidian arrows are hair smaller out side diameter than gold tip ? The 100 Gn point fits flush diameter wise with the obsidian incert. I read this as a plus my bow is more cut to center riser so smaller diameter may not need as much bend . So wonder if this offsets a luminock at the rear of the arrow ? Any way ADHD will have 20 versions built in my mind before tomorrow. Honestly thought of making a shirt or bumper sticker, or windows sticker. ( ADHD I've been Squirrel Hunting my Whole Life )?
I do buy gold tip traditional classic xt arrows for the great system they come with and they are a skinny arrow at 204. They are a little expensive but they shoot amazing out of my bow and they have less wind, drag and better penetration in my opinion because they’re skinnier, but to each of their own.
The Classic Blems vairy on grains. I've found 50+ grain difference when cut and built the same as my non-blem traditional classics. 50 grains does make a difference in how my bow shoots and how tuned the arrows are. Id guess this also effects the actual spine of the arrow and I have better consistency with the non-blems.
No does not matter. Carbon is the best arrows ever. I've shot primarily wood for 50 years. The arrow is the key to accuracy. Your only shooting 20 to 30 yards. As long as they fit you and your bow. After that they already have enough accuracy to hit a dime at 30 yards if you are good enough. I'm not by the way. Yet I can make some amazing shots over the years.
Jason, appreciate the kind words brother and love your channel. Cedar shafts are hard to beat too and one really quick hack that might help somebody that I love to do with any economy shaft like a warrior, ICS (.244-.246) carbon arrow 💘. Get you a cheap $50 dozen shaft and foot it with various lengths of aluminum XX75 alloy type shaft for durability on bone 🦴 .....but the secret is this makes me exponentially more accurate after I bare shaft tune as the hack is that at dawn, dusk and even in the pitch dark the long alloy footing is my clicker. Can do it with a lot of time and little money with GT Warrior through any shafts and a pipe cutter. Hope this helps somebody as this is the hack that completely transformed my high low misses into draw stop style compound bow accuracy on all my trad bows 🏹 ....it changed my whole life to where 0-20 yards trad bow can be as accurate in a hunting situation as my compounds. Hope this makes sense and hope this hack helps somebody. Can do this with cheap carbon arrows etc. Happy holidays brother and much props to your trad hunting and your channel 💘
yup, if you have the cash to burn, have at it, but i have yet to met an archer better than than modern arrows, especially if count the range of arrows to the range of a good day vs a bad day slinging sticks from a stick.
Look at our Buddy Jeff Philips in the trad world gold tip warrior arrows cheap. I use black eagle outlaw 500 and 350 spine .246 diameter works just fine
Respectfully disagree. If shooting fixed blade broad heads and shooting at animals out to 40 yards, If I buy 12 cheap shafts, maybe 8/12 will tune well enough to go in the quiver with a compound bow. The tighter tolerances drastically reduce the fiddle factor of having to see which will fly well. Ie .001 arrows will consistently have 11 or 12 that fly well with broadheads. With a field point it makes no difference. So to me I’ll spend a little extra up front for the tighter tolerances only for fixed blades broadheads. For field points, yard shooting, even 3d or indoors I’ll shoot the .006. Im also a tinkerer and love building arrows so may have less tolerance for inconsistency.
That is where we are different. My accuracy only matters to 20 yard max. I would never shoot at an animal beyond 20. So for me expensive is irrelevant.
Do be careful with Chinese carbon arrows as I have seen some being Nylon carbon or spined to a Chinese scale and they are not good. Especially the Chinese scale ones as the whole scale online is in Mandarin Chinese numbers/wording behind it. Also Carbon from China is made more for non hunting being correct spine bu so light they will not work and is sold in description as a dual hunting target arrow because of tying to oversell the arrow.
