Enchanting. Grasso is, first of all, a master of melodies and harmonies. His virtuosity serves this mastery, he never pushes it to the foreground. No vanity in his play. What an extraordinary musician! This rendition of Round Midnight is precious.
This version really reminds of the way Bill Evans used to play this tune, which sounds extremely impressive when translated into solo guitar. Very few musicians are able to put virtuosity to use to make genuinely emotive music, and I'm deeply grateful to have found one that does it in such a remarkable way.
surprising powerful and rich wooden acoustic tone .....but is it really a surprise coming from the ITALIAN virtuoso Pasquale GRASSO creating one Stradivarius guitar he deserves as the ultimate PAGANINI .
Incredible playing. The melody and voicings are spot on. I’m a professional guitarist/pianist and was knocking around taping my rendition of the tune but after hearing this arrangement I talked myself out of doing that. For a few years I used to do solo gigs on piano and guitar at private parties and lounges etc and messed around with some jazz standard covers. Years ago I entertained the idea of doing a video of me playing Stella By Starlight so I went to UA-cam, did a search and out pops this nine year old playing it. It’s amazing how many truly great players are out there and I’m glad that they’re monetizing their performances on UA-cam. After reading some responses to my comment, I wanted to add that I also have a masters in music comp and when I listen to this rendition of Round Midnight, in addition to being blown away by the technique and aesthetics, I’m also aware of his melodic lines and sonorities in his arrangement of the tune and all of these components are incredibly sophisticated and original in my opinion. In the early 70’s I studied with Joe Pass and for a long time believed that no one could ever surpass his skill at arranging tunes on the guitar, that is, until I came across Pasquale.
I have a bunch of average semi professional players on my subscribe list It’s more about feel than chops I’d personally live to watch your channel - at least once :) And as someone too scared to put myself online you would be doing this for all of us
hi man i'm a very below average pianist who also compares himself to others and comes up lacking. but when i see someone else doing that the only response is stop ! If you would like to share , & that is the thing holding you back then don't worry about it .. There will always be a 8 year old asian kid who can out perform you at any task. That fact shouldn't affect your actions in my opinion ! Please, Share your gift.
What an IMAGINATIVE SOLO! Extremely melodic, great harmonies and balance between single note lines and chords. Nice little patch of "double-time" near the end.
I was speaking about his improvisation when he soloed on the tune - not the arrangement itself - more about his runs of notes and varied pacings - which he did base off the "standard" arrangement.
Absolutely incredible! I feel He’s hugely influenced of Art Tatum. Hearing that on guitar is something else! He has his own voice that’s for sure. One of the greats!
@@grewalparminder2003 You don't know don't know what your saying... Joe Pass is the first to devellop that style of solo playing for solo concert. He is not only the biggest influence in the genre, he also had an unmatched immense repertoire. And nothing in Joe Pass was pre-arranged, everything improvised including his set of tunes for each concerts... so Joe Pass was in truth much UNDER-rated.
yes... sooner or later he will get the recognition he deserves... he is the modern Art Tatum, for me he is a big inspiration, I'm very happy that I discovered him on a video he was playing on a slow boat to china with a trio that got a serious amount of views

A beautiful video for an incredibly musical version of this tune.
Love that pure, almost acoustic tone. This guy is scary good.

Unbelievable talent! Bud Powell would be proud!
Dude is a monster- his records are amazing, def find them. If youre a player, be prepared to be humbled.
Super skilled.. one of the best fingerstyle jazz in the world ... combining the best of the guitar heroes 😀😀
Super-sophisticated and played to perfection by this master.

Pasquale is beyond everything
If I played guitar, I'd chop my fingers off! LOL
I can't believe this, what a genius.

That's standard to how this tune is played.
Charles Tollivers' big band did a killer version of that break.

È bello parlare di musica e poi parlare di te ed essere fieri che sei italiano e che un po' ci rappresenti. Grazie. Continua così.

Gorgeous!
Good afternoon. I want to know what strings the master uses, and how he makes it almost impossible to hear his fingers slipping over the strings.
Ridiculous! And delicious...simply mind boggling
Monkfantástico
Me before i clicked on this video: maybe i could learn round midnight on guitar today.
Me now: it would take me 2 months just to transcribe this.
In the scheme that's not bad go for it , such a classic
but more than two months .....a second life and a miracle to have such hands and fingers .!!
Very nice intro
He's done this a few times. 😀
Make a grown man shout!
When someone compares two great musicians there's only ever one loser...
[Clue: it's not either of the musicians being compared]

With six fingers. But his style is more like that of George van Eps.

Joe pass on steroids
Joe pass is great but a bit overrated.
@@grewalparminder2003 I like Joe Pass a lot, but Grasso is even better.
Yep, sounds like Joe

Scary shit..lol
I don't hear much phrasing from him, like he's playing to
a metronome.
NEEDS A DRUMMER ___
A lot of notes, little music
