So it’s a mashup of Point/Counterpoint and Keasbey Nights. Both were written by the lead singer Tomas. He was the lead singer of Catch 22 on Keasbey Nights the album. Then left and formed Streetlight. They play this at every show since around 2005. It’s technically two songs but it’s played as one live.

So Thomas was the lead guitar/singer/song writer for Catch 22. After he left and started Streetlight Manifesto half of the Catch 22 lineup joined him. Point/counterpoint continues the lyrical and musical themes of Keasby Nights. Overall the songs are extremely similar which clearly was intentional. He would always joke at shows saying it was a "cover" despite he wrote all the music and lyrics to it. There was an initial beef between the 2 bands at first but had since been dropped.

As others have already said, TohKay was the original singer, guitarist and primary song writer, left C22 to go to University. Some if the band carried on, others left for a multitude of reasons.
C22s second album was primarily written by the original saxaphone and trumpet players - and saw them diversify the sound a bit. It is both poppier and heavier than Keasby, and also has far more complex horn lines.
TohKay meanwhile had been working as part of a group of musicians known as "Bandits of the Acoustic Revolution" - who played a mix of C22 songs, original material and some songs that later went on to be Streetlight.
The streetlight debut album was even more musically diverse than C22s second effort and included point/counterpoint, which was essentially a part 2 of the song Keasby Nights. Even before they started mashing it up, everyone had made the comparisson of how similar the two were and how a lot of the chorus is the same words.
As far as im aware, they always play this mash up at every show now

Seeing them live is an experience, man. I've been listening for over 20 years, and have seen them at least 2 dozen times. The crowd participation is a thing, seriously.

They first played Point / Counterpoint, and in the middle they played Keasbey Nights and finally coming back to Point / Counterpoint. The singer, Tomas Kalnoky was previously playing in Catch 22 where they first played Keasbey Nights. After leaving Catch 22 and starting Streetlight Manifesto, he still plays some old songs. This is just a way he decided to put Keasbey Nights in there. Sometimes when playing Point / Counterpoint they change into Keasbey Nights in the middle, and finishing it off with Point / Counterpoint again.

I needed a good laugh today. I forgot to hand out the Cell. Joel I intentionally didn’t put Keasbey in the title to see if you’d catch that. You did, you get a Cell. Chuck, it makes me happy that you thought it was one song, Tomas wrote it like that on purpose. Chuck gets a Cell donated by myself and my wife Kim for the 10 on the Bomb! Great job Bois!

Yeah. This version is usually called Point/Keaseby/Counterpoint. Watching Joel notice the switch was great.

I did not even realize its their 20th-anniversary tour, saw tickets available for Boston in dec, and was just made sense to go see them live again. Still one of my top bands live the energy and vibe of crowds hardly matched.

The best part of the beef between streetlight and catch 22 is the pure poetry of the lyric, "if you hate me so much then stop singing my songs!" ...a line that has its direct intent and meaning, but translates well to anyone who has ever dealt with a hater...

Where can i find the album with Point Counterpoint, with Keesby Night in it like this, also the last verse of If Only for Memories played by Streetlight not just the Tokay version. They throw out these gems and its phenomenal!

I remember back in the early 2000s when wvwruone was saying Point/counter point was part 2 of Keasey Nights.

Most of the history of this group has already been mentioned in the comments, but one thing that has been left out is that the album “Keasbey Nights” was originally written and released when Tomas was in Catch-22, but after Streetlight was formed, they rerecorded the entire album. Not remastered, straight up rerecorded. Went into a studio and re-performed the whole thing. I appreciate Catch-22’s more raw punk sound, but Streetlight just sounds so much better in my opinion.
That said, I seem to be the only person that doesn’t love their live stuff. It’s impressive that they can play as fast as they do, and I’d still kill to go to one of their shows, but imo it feels like they rush through songs and it’s harder to enjoy the little details that make them good. Especially for a band that spends as much time as TOOL does recording and perfecting every minute detail of their albums. Still impressive though, and amazing energy. And everyone else loves their live stuff, so who am I to naysay?
Point/Counterpoint, which was the first song and the song they went back to, was Streetlight’s biggest hit. I’d recommend listening to the studio version on your own time, unless you want to react to it. It’s not my favorite song by them, though. The middle song was indeed Keasbey Nights, a way better song imo and also worth listening to both bands’ versions of.
I appreciate you guys for diving so deep into this band, and love that you love it. I think you’ve already checked out more of their music than any other reactor has. I hope you finish the journey! It’s such phenomenal music, and Tomas is maybe my #1 personal hero, but not everyone appreciates this stuff. But if I can toot our collective horn here (pun intended), I think those who can at least understand how good they are are true persons of taste.
    Cheers boyos! 🍻

Tomas is a certified legend. It’s funny that you compare them to Tool, I often compare them to Dream Theater for similar reasons. Streetlight is a band that as they evolved have become almost genre defying. They intentionally play their live shows in a more punk mentality, making it more gritty and raw while their studio sound is very meticulous and perfected.

To answer your other question, it definitely was keasby nights that was Song mushEd in to Point counterpoint.
Tomas kalnocky Is the lead singer guitarist for Streetlight and he was in catch-22. And he also had a band called bandits of the acoustic revolution ( And if you wanna be technical, he was also in a band called gimp, but that's really way less well known) But hes the song writer for catch during the keasby nights Era

Talking about crowds where they sing along. Not only will the crowd at a street. Light shows sing along to every word that they sing. They'll also sing along to all the horns hurts. That's well which is hilarious and and great

He also likes fighting these gangsta Ska type songs South thematically the 2 songs match up pretty good.
Main themes of street light are anti suicide songs and gangster songs. That's not all they do by any stretch, but they do more of those type of songs and other bands do of those types of songs.
