    So glad you took the time to put this here. This fixes the only problem I had with this system. I use the organizer boxes elsewhere and was really frustrated with the lack of top handle. Perfect fix - You *are* the man!

    Great idea, thanks! I did this today without drilling the inside ends of the dowel housing. [I used a small sharp chisel to move the dowels out far enough to be able to grab them with pliers]. 5 minutes start to finish.

      An unintended but frankly valid design feature: The ability to swap out the box tops. In fact, doing this should not void any warranties.

    At first, I wasn't sure where you were going with this project, it seemed strange, but that turned out great, I'm glad I kept watching. I just bought the 22" case and some custom fitted Kaizen foam for it, I'm making a travel case for all my GoPro cameras and cable cam equipment, If I ever buy the other RIDGID cases, I'm going to change my lid too. Thanks for the idea and good luck with your RIDGID case system.

      Yes but doing it that way would make his choice of tools all in there with none of the organization bins would make them spill every which way and commit incest with each other resulting in having to spank each tool after each trip even though it was your fault to begin with!!!

    I wish ridgid would make the smaller case with wheels on one end and a pull out handle like the smaller Pelican case, or sell a wire dolly that could latch into the bottom of the case to make any ridgid case function that way.

      I did two boxes last night, worked perfect. One of them is not as tight as usual, but still locks firmly. Not sure why it is loose, but again, not planning on leaving them out in the rain. Doesn't make sense (to me) to have the handle briefcase style anyway. Plus, there ARE handles on the larger box, just use the hold down clips. All tools loaded, and will make their way to job site today, two trips, not the usual 6 or 7, workshop-van, van-workshop.

    I invested in Dewalt before the Ridgid came out. I love my DeWalts except for the plastic tab on the sides. If they are loaded i don't believe they can hold the weight. This leads into my comment about the Ridgid. When they first came out I looked at them and loved the hinge system on the sides to lock the boxes together. But it was too late. So now I used the plastic tabs just to hold the boxes together when on a dolly or in the vehicle transporting from one place to another. ( I think that is what they are for and not carrying another box unless the box is smaller on the bottom.)

    I have this set and I think it is awesome. Watching this video I was like why is he drilling into this great set up? Then I saw what he did. This is how Ridgid should have done it. I use this set as a mobile box for auto mechanic jobs. The top box having to be carried side ways can be a pain with sockets going everywhere. Then the way they can be carried with the first and second boxes connected, just like a normal carry box. Also, I always have to take the set apart to go up and down stairs, this will make the transitions easier.Great idea, I will do this to mine.

    Wouldn't work for me, I use the parts bins in my pro organizer and the lid from the Ridgid pro toolbox does not have the indents in it that seal up the pro organizer parts bins and keep the parts in them from falling out and getting all over and the center of the pro organizer box lid is taller so you would lose space with the pro toolbox lid and I would rather have the top handle on my pro toolbox, because I pack it by that handle when I carry it, than have 2 handles on my smaller pro organizer. Also I only carry my Ridgid boxes if it's just one I don't pack my Ridgid toolboxes around hooked together cuz I load them with so many tools and they get so heavy that it would be very hard to pack more that one around at a time, I have and use the pro gear cart that has wheels and the telescoping handle and I put my pro toolbox the medium size box and the pro organizer the small box on top of my pro gear cart so I can roll them all around. Very inventive to change the lids around like you did though. It would be cool to have a handle on top of the pro organizer, but I can see why Ridgid didn't design it with a top handle it's because it's already a shallow box and if they were to put a handle in the lid it would become even shallower since the handle would be recessed into the lid and then you would lose space inside the box. Here is the way I go about loading things up and this is just works for me personally everyone has they way they like to load things. ua-cam.com/video/k3J_6_m9QcQ/v-deo.html

    Have you tried swapping the inner liner sides of the smaller accessory box case lid? you may have to cut and seal/glue but then you could still use one or both orange side trys. I set my tools up snug, safe and weight distributed towards the vertical hinge bottom so they are fine for me in stock configuration.

      Have this exact Ridgid toolbox setup and use it everyday for work. The bottom of the large wheeled box blew out about a year after I bought it. Other smaller parts like the box connector handles have broken, and the plastic wheels have disintegrated. I've debated buying the Milwaukee tool Box system but it's overly expensive! Like you mentioned, it may be a good idea to just build my own.

    while it is an OK modification It is completely Useless when you buy the bottom with wheels if you load the basket,and the larger tools box with tools you wont be able to carry it with one hand...

    I don't think the box is designed to carry it that way. The plastic clips will eventually brake.

      I remove the top handled lead from twice bigger box. So it's no problem with small box.

    • @qzetu
      @qzetu 6 років тому

      @@FixitAll I think you misunderstood me. You demonstrated carrying it with the larger boxes attached to the smaller one. Over time the clips will break and that isn't possible anyway if they were full of tools. I bought the rigid boxes for 150$ but gave them to a friend. I think they are too bulky. Good boxes nonetheless. I have DeWalt boxes now and love them.

    • @FixitAll
      @FixitAll  6 років тому

      Mostly I walk to my customers with one tool box. So no reason to take a bigger all time.

  • @Hansly_rz
    @Hansly_rz 6 років тому

    you can do all that but you chose to switch the lids. You could've just make a handle with 2 screws at minimum for that lid. People who praise you don't seem to really think.

      Just this one for small hand tools. And i don't like to flip it over all the time with noise inside of mixing tools and other staff.

      No, construction of the lid completely different inside. There is no space for handle.

    Now you have two handles on the small toolbox and no handles on the big toolbox. Seems to me if you wanted a top handle to carry everything around you just put the big toolbox on the top and carry it. I looked at the Ridgid pro tool box, the small one, and decided against it. All that space in the top is wasted. They could’ve use that for storage bins but chose not to. Anyway, interesting approach if you have the time and desire to do what you did. Good luck!

      All depend on your work. Big box newer get from my van. Only with my new top handle important to my work.

    • @FixitAll
      @FixitAll  6 років тому +1

      I installed top handle since i have many small hand tools and parts in my box and every time when i lift box by the side handle all my tools fly and flip like in a mixer. So never organised and all time croupy mess.
