The reason people flock to it is because there is no better CFB game period....game may be great it may suck but its something to play. I am also buying college bowl. I will play both.

@@GreatOnes4L Do you play any other indie games? I ask because saying a game looks like something from 1999 because it is pixel art is an incomplete assessment. Plenty of indie/AA games use the pixel art aesthetic but run far beyond a game from 1999. Having a license is only a limitation as the licensor has final say in what can be done with it. That's how the NFL can sanitize the sport in Madden and have it be shown the way they want. Licenses are one of many things that have made the barrier to entry into this market stupidly high to where people are doing back flips when the market moves to 2 AAA games instead of one (from the same company).
Javo may be bad mouthing a product by your definition but EA is the one choking the market, with the help of everyone who isn't old enough to remember when there were ~6 major developers making football games.
I would ask you to think about the fact that there will be little to no AAA entries into this market besides from EA. The only valid trajectory is from indies and AAs to ITERATE their products over time and support to reach a point where they are competitive in at least the AA space. This is is literally the only way.
This isn't my opinion, this is just what happens in market economies when one entity owns an entire market space. Objectively, the consumer suffers and in this case, no matter how many licenses EA has.

WOW! A physical copy of Legend Bowl. Will it be the original game or will it be an updated version? I'd like to see all the College Bowl updates/features in Legend Bowl. Will buy a copy either way. I'd buy copies of all 3 games: LB, LB2, CB. Ty.

Folks, you don't have to play ONE GAME for the rest of your life. It's like only playing Call of Duty or Skyrim when there's tons of other games out there in these genres of all types. We don't have the luxury of mountains of games in football, partially because of the NFL, the NCAA and EA but also because the consumer doesn't know how to appreciate and nurture a rich base of alternatives.

I'll have to watch this video tomorrow! That being said, the biggest thing holding college bowl back (for me) is it being only local play. Even that would be somewhat okay if the play selection was built differently.. an online dynasty is what my friends and I are looking for and despite EA and likely making a sub par game most of my friends will buy that game day 1 just to play online. It's how most of us hang out now that we all have jobs and some having kids. If this game gets online dynasty or even just exhibition games it would be amazing!

The big issue is since he's an indy developer and a one man studio he'd have to buy and pay the servers to stay up. I'm not sure if STEAM covers any of that.

Completely understand not trusting EA, I haven’t bought a madden in like 8 years because the game just doesn’t click with me and I was trying to fill the hole left by not having new NCAA games.
I wouldn’t call myself a “sports” gamer as I don’t play 2K or FIFA or even Madden but NCAA 14 is probably in my top 3 games played all time because there is just something compelling to me about that gameplay.
I’m definitely going to buy college bowl and give it a shot as I prefer college over NFL but there’s also something about legends bowl that doesn’t click with me either. Maybe I just don’t have a feel for the passing or I’m missing something but I really respect your mission and want to support your efforts.

Stumbled upon Legend Bowl on UA-cam and instantly bought it on the Switch. I don’t really care for college sports, it’s so short lived but I’ll buy College Bowl when it drops regardless and play it cuz these are much needed for sports game fans. Def looking forward to the basketball game as well, would love to see a hockey game in this format.
Also, if you drop physical versions I’ll double dip in the Switch. Bring it!

it's concerning that top hat is porting the game to console. i hope they learned their lessons with legend bowl. i'll be buying it on steam because i'll be able to mod it. One advantage that Indie devs have is that they're nimble. EA is a massive ocean liner out in the sea, if they want to make a sudden right hand turn it takes them miles to do so. Javo can turn on a dime. If indie devs want to make up ground with AAA devs, they must see patterns in the market that they can capitalize on while EA is still trying to turn its massive boat. an example? Draft Classes. Reading the reactions to CFB25's initial info release, people want to take their draft class from CFB25 to Madden. BECAUSE of licensing, EA can't do this. BUT JAVO CAN. Indie devs _must_ take any and all advantages they can when competing against AAA studios in related spaces in video games. In this case, if I were Javo, I would tie College Bowl & Legend Bowl together through draft classes and MARKET that to customers. i would absolutely hammer EA with it "here's something we do that EA can't do". in that vein of being 'nimble', you have to flip the script on the NFL/NFLPA Intellectual Property Monopoly. Sure it's frustrating that Javo can't release a console version with our favorite NFL teams. Rather than wait around for lawyers to bust that monopoly, Javo could lean into the Legend Bowl IP and sell merch for Legend Bowl teams and players. That's HIS licensing deal. Start selling Vance Hoffman QB1 for the Arizona Scorpions t shirts/hats/jerseys. There are many, many fans who would spend money buying Ofiicial merchandise related to the franchises within Legend Bowl/College Bowl which could help stabilize Javo as a developer, potentially allowing him to bolster/upgrade his studio. There are areas to make money around Legend Bowl that don't feel like Javo is trying to squeeze every dime out of his fanbase through DLC's or microtransactions. people _want_ to support indies, they just need tangible ways to do it outside of buying multiple copies of the same game, which is basically the only way to support Super Pixel/Javo outside of evangelizing to your friends. /rant

This is one thing that people forget. indies and AAs aren't going to show up out of nowhere and have something that outclasses a company with a legacy of 30+ years. They can do some things better, at their scale but some people don't have the foresight to see that this entire enterprise isn't just selling games, it's trying to create a space in a market choked by EA. That said, it's up to the developers to create something that has immediate appeal and value, otherwise they are just selling a possible future and people don't like that. As someone who is making my own football game, I have to think about these things. It's a good comparison, huge AAAs to ocean liners while indies and AAs are not.

Asking Top Hat to port again is an absolutely crazy decision. I know it's hard to find a publisher...but don't choose the guys who literally lied about how the process was going and refused to give you timely feedback? And whenever criticism was levelled, they cried about being over-worked? Couldn't optimize the game on previous gen consoles, so gave a BS story about how they're too weak; even though much more demanding games run on those platforms with no issues?
He's gotta be smarter than that, right? Or is Top Hat just that good at selling themselves? Madness.

    • @View619
      @View619 8 місяців тому

@@GridironMasters98 Honestly, some indie devs spend too much time comparing themselves and/or complaining about AAA titles. Let consumers do that, focus on making something unique that stands on its own regardless of whatever the bigger companies are doing.
When you constantly bring EA into the conversation like Javo, you are practically begging for comparisons. And you will never win that fight.

    • @GridironMasters98
      @GridironMasters98 8 місяців тому

@@View619 I can see that. However people will absolutely compare a small football game to EA. I don't know why but I get the sense that the football game space just has a slightly higher percentage of people who are going to rip a game because it doesn't have AAA budget.
I'm convinced that many football gamers literally don't know what an indie game is. You are right though, its up to the developer to make something that people want. The problem is that some don't even know how to appreciate something that isn't blasting you in the face with hi-fidelity graphics.

I hear you bro, I'm 34 and sometimes I wonder if it's a case of when you grew up and the game scene around your formative years/how the landscape used to be. I feel like EA doesn't actually respect it's consumer base, or it's craft anymore. Do I think that individual developers or artists are bad people and DON'T want to make a good game? No! Of course not, I know that 1 person can be passionate about their craft but at the end of the day the decisions that are being made on a strategic and macroscopic level are NOT in the best interest of creating an enjoyable and rewarding game for the player. It's about directing traffic to pay to play modes and rewarding the 'arcade' style scene because that is what drives UA-cam Shorts/TikTok clips and therefore gets more viral moments/eyes on the game and then guess what? That equates to more sales and a higher percentage chance that people will eventually end up playing the pay to play modes.
Finding Legend Bowl was nice for me, I enjoy pixel art games anyway of most varieties but I feel challenged by Legend Bowl in terms of it's gameplay, it's franchise has nice mechanics that work perfectly in terms of detail level/still keeping it from being too tedious and overall it feels like a breath of fresh air.
I'm looking forward to seeing all the work you've put in with College Bowl man, I appreciate the work you've done to bring some enjoyment back to football video games.

EA made this game in about 3 years, they havent been working on it for 10-11 years.
expecting them to make ALL new animations and a new engine from scratch is ridiculous.
its football, there is a lot of carry over (animations wise) from pro football to college football.
there are new animations that will ONLY be in one or the other, but thinking it would be 100% different is just irrational.
there have been several non-biased content creators (ppl who have openly criticized madden and EA ) who EA invited to play the game early and it has largely been said that the game feels much different from madden, a big thing being the ball trajectory in passing and the general speed of the game.
i am not an EA stan, in fact i mostly hate everything they do, havent bought madden in years, its a terrible game.
im simply a gamer and a massive football fan, and everything is pointing to this game being significantly better than madden.
also a big fan of legend bowl, i play it all the time on steam, and im definitely going to grab college bowl when its out.

I'm surprised to see a deep dive for CFB 25 when College Bowl is out in a few weeks? Why not spend that time hyping up your own game instead of giving even more attention to EA?
It doesn't make sense, use your platform to boost *your own game*; there are plenty of things you could do to get the word out instead of relying on influencers who probably won't give it the time of day.
Also, if I'm reading correctly, having Top Hat port the game again after they did such an awful job with Legend Bowl (including bouncing after a month of support, with plenty of bugs remaining) is borderline insane. I don't want to be rude, but one would assume that you're better off finding anybody else? Aren't these the same guys who constantly lied about the state of Legend Bowl during porting and flat-out refused to have people test things properly? And the end result is something significantly worse than PC, even on the latest consoles?
Good luck, but I don't know why you're putting yourself through all of this. I'll buy CB when it releases, so there's that.
