Dude, you're literally the only person on youtube that has shown a full teardown/put together of the cylinder head/valves etc - THANK YOU! I'm on a never ending quest for combustion on my old honda 90 and finally noticed that my valves don't seat worth crap. For sure going to try to lap them down, awesome!
Very good work and excellent video. We have two 68 CT90's I'm going to tear down and repaint (finishing up our 65 Yamaha's now). Love how the Vapor Blasting turned out. Might need to get a quote on doing my two engines (rebuild and all). They run fine, shift fine, but smoke a bit. That would allow me to focus on painting and refinishing.
Thanks for the feedback! Check out my Facebook page for my vapor blasting service. Just search JPS vapor blasting on Facebook. I’d love to help you out!
Hi I like your video, I am working on my engine honda ct90 trail 1973, So could you recommend there can buy new seals for engine, Cuz I bought already but they doesn’t fit! Please put list of parts you bought for rebuild your engine! Thank you!
I watched this several times and the one thing I wanted to see, apparently was skipped in the video. I never saw the Timing chain tensioner spring and piston installed. My CT-90 skipped a tooth on the timing chain as a result of removing the bike by myself from the back of my Toyota truck. Apparently when the front wheel bounced on the ground, it was enough to cause a whipping action which caused the timing chain to skip one tooth. The spring to me, seems very weak, not much stronger than a ball point pen spring. Can you confirm only one spring is used or are there two? I have a 1971 CT-90 with the high/low transmission.
It was awesome. When did you put in the chain tensioner adjuster? Is it better to do it after the head is installed or before so it does not fight you?
Thanks Tom! I put it in after the head is on and torqued down, that way you aren’t fighting against the tensioner trying to get your camshaft installed
I just suggested that on of my on line CT folks go check out this video. I put my engine together a few days ago and even though I have done this years ago, I had my laptop on the bench with your video as my step by step guide. The very best video out there and I watched them all. Do you do Vapor Cleaning as a service? I have an S90 project in the wings. Thanks again!!!!

Not sure, I’ve seen guys advertise full rebuilds for $1300. I do them for customers with vapor blasting service to make it look brand new for significantly less than that.
Great videos on this CT90 engine teardown and rebuild. There's no way that all these cases, and covers are just vapor blasted though. Looks to me like there was some repainting. involved.
You should do some research on vapor blasting. The only thing that got painted on this engine was the cylinder painted black. Everything is raw aluminum that was vapor blasted.
I’m up to speed on vapor blasting, thanks. I’m not sure I follow what you’re saying though. You took them down to the raw aluminum? The cases had pretty severe oxidization, and paint loss. So you used the vapor blaster to remove the paint, and left them unpainted? They’ll oxidize. I strip cases like that, sand down the oxidization, then repaint, and coat with 2k.
@@MrTapes the use of an aviation grade corrosion inhibitor prevents oxidation. This video is 2 years old. That engine was never ran, and is still sitting on my shelf - corrosion and oxidation free.
@@TynkaTyme I haven't seen vapor blasting before but that looks like a brand new engine now. I came to the comments to confirm if they were all new parts or if i missed something.
Hey buddy, I gotta 1966 Honda S90. What’s a good type and weight oil to use? I saw some other guy on UA-cam saying to use the Shell Rotella 15w40. Isn’t that oil a little heavy?
I’ve never worked on an s90 but I’m sure it’s the same engine, or very similar. The CT90 says SAE20 below 60 degrees or SAE30 above 60 degrees. Can’t go wrong with what’s stamped right on the side of the engine. Lol
@@TynkaTyme yeah it’s basically the same motor as the CT90 if not identical. The side is stamped SAE30. So what’s that mean? 10w30, 5w30, automotive oil?
@@brettabraham4949 no you’re looking for straight SAE30 oil. Keep in mind you’d need one compatible with a wet clutch. They make specific oils for motorcycles so would recommend going that route.
you made same mistake every one that dont know the trail 90 alt side cover is a different gasket the drain for high and low gear box oil will run oil on the ground every time even gasket maker make the wrong kits

BTW, what restaurant is missing its stainless steel prep table? Makes a darn nice work bench.

Do you rebuild those motors for people or just your own? If you do what do you charge?
That piece of wood on the valve literately came off the block of wood it fell out on.

Can you link where you got the Allen head replacement bolt set? Thanks
What about the valve guide clearance with the valve stem.

At 19:49, what is that thing next to the hole where the shofter assembly goes into? Mine seems to be missing that but has a hole for it, thanks
Perhaps I missed it but did you hone your cylinder?
I did hone the cylinder. Did it off camera though.
Are both your cabinets for vapor blasting?
Can you please post the Amazon link for the spring compressor. Thanks.
