  • This video shows how I managed to pull out the rotor that was stuck in the motor housing of my dishdrawer dishwasher. It looks like the rotor started to get loose and it was rubbing against the side of the housing and the plastic melted and got stuck together. I had to force the rotor out using pliers.

    Thanks Ken - this was really useful. I had removed the cover before to do a deep clean, but did not know about the motor. My machine was making an unusual noise when in operation and I feared something bad was wrong. I followed your video and when I removed the motor, I found a stem of an apple or pear stuck in there. I removed it and re-assembled and the noise has gone. Problem solved - plus I now know how to replace the motor if it fails. We love our dish drawers - had them (this in number 2) for about 18 years - hate using the door type when on vacation.

    Just wanted to give my gratitude to this vid as I was about to go out and buy a whole new replacement housing unit. I'll just add that I had to put in a decent amount of force and multiple attempts. I ended up also putting in some boiling water in to see if I could soften the plastic abit (not sure if it helped or not). Note that if you try this make sure you dont splash any water on your skin or eyes as it will hurt..

    I have the same problem so thanks to you I know now what is holding it in and the answer is force. Tomorrow is a new day and I'll be back attacking the motor.

    I pulled mine so hard with pliers until the metal stem snapped off, 🤣. Yes, I hit the gym every day and I got them powers 😁. It's a Kitchenaid KUDD01DPPA0 double drawer. I now have no choice but to replace the motor assembly itself (the gray assembly underneath the drawer) as well as the rotor. I then decided to see what made it stick solid. Finally managed to rip it open with a screwdriver and saw the havoc. The rotor base had dug in on the sides of the opening groves (hence unable to be pulled out) and in fact there were tiny holes which explains the persistent leakage I had. My recommendation is to periodically remove the rotor (may be every couple of years) to make sure it's not beginning to get stuck as it will eventually lead to a leakage as in my case with extensive damage to the electronics.

    Same issue here, I noticed after you removed the last blue piece of the rotor, it revealed some mild damage to the wall of grey plastic 'hole' the rotor sits in. I have the issue, because of the melted plastic and the force I needed to remove the rotor. My question, has this caused any leaks for you on the underside (the pump motor assembly)?

    • @kenkanfix
      @kenkanfix  2 роки тому

      hi, there was no leaks after smoothing out the side wall and replacing the motor.

      I'm having this issue... when I look under the drawer I can see there is water in the clear plastic tray. Inside the drawer it appears one of the seals is not seated correctly(the ring outside of the motor rotor, so i'm assuming it's leaking through there. Did you manage to fix it?

    Found it still didn't want to complete a cycle after replacing the rotor... so blew out the drain lines where the rotor sits with a garden hose. Maybe it dislodged some kind of blockage. I had to run the pump a few times to empty the tub as there was a lot of water. So ran a few cycles and stopped it just before it started filling with fresh water... maybe that cleared the error codes... or it was the excess water preventing it from running a cycle. 🤔 All working good now...

    I have this 2 drawer dishwasher but unfortunately the inside portion looks different than mine. It has the blue piece in the middle but not the white piece you’re turning and the bottom of my dishwasher is all plastic. Just can’t seem to find my specific model on line.

    Hi, my rotor has the same problem - the blue plastic melted and we had to force our the rotor. How did you scrape away the melted plastic without harming the shaft so the new rotor will soon properly?

    • @kenkanfix
      @kenkanfix  3 роки тому +1

      Hi, I used a sharp knife to scrape around the housing. It wasn't easy that's for sure :) I couldn't get all the blue plastic out but there was enough room for the motor to run. Good luck

    Hi Just wanted to know how you managed to take it with pliers ,i have the same situation can you tell me did you have to line up the grooves or just force it with Flat head Screw driver?

    • @kenkanfix
      @kenkanfix  3 роки тому +1

      Hi, I just used pliers and pull slowly and hard, it came out a little bit at a time. It took a few minutes. Don't pry it out with a screw driver, you might damage the plastic housing. No grooves to line up. Good luck

    I would like to add here. There are 3d printed motors being sold on Ebay, total scam. Watch for those that have larger than original impeller blades. The motors are marketed as "used" justifying a low price but they are actually 3d printed, with no scuffs whatsover but the impeller area to sit in pool of water is not re-created like the original rendering them totally useless. The design does not allow for forceful sideways into the drain expulsion of the water. wASTE OF MONEY AND SCAMMERS RUNNING FREE

    This is the rotor not the motor, this does nothing to fix a fault cde for a motor problem.
