I watched this just before I set up my own Starlink 2 days ago. We live in France and have had ADSL internet at poor speed for 20 years. We are remote in the mountains, edge of a forest so decided satellite was the only way to go when our signal got even worse a few months ago. The Dishy arrived in 2 days from Germany so we were not ready. But being in our 70s we did not want to be climbing ladders anyway! So it is just stood in the field next to our house, and works amazingly well. We are having a bracket fixed to the roof and need this because it is not safe in the field as we have 6 dogs and cows! Cost in France : 450€ and 50€ per month which is competitive in France and costs less than our present WiFi set up. In fact France did not want Starlink in France but lost a court case, then They lowered the price. Things can only get better…….No brainer! Thanks for your video.
Bonjour is your dish still work like you want…i want get the system but want make sure it work fine…am in an area with a lot of trees…merci
Starlink had it's licensed revoked by the court because the regulator didn't carry out a public consultation. They got their license back 6 weeks later after the correct process was followed. The courts ruled that the regulator was too quick to give them the license, so say France didn't want Starlink is just weird and wrong, and they didn't lose any court case.
We live in the country in a valley with hills all around us. I thought we would never get high speed internet. Ordered Starlink June 1st. It arrived on June 10th. Very happy with it so far. Sorry HughesNet, you're losing a customer.
My mom has been using Hughes net for years. They are awful. Idk how anyone uses it. She is setting up her strlink as we speak 🙌
@@jonathanduff6266 same here. I went from 2 mb to 100 mb😂😂
@@jonathanduff6266 - Well, Hughes was one of the few players for satellite data way before Starlink came along. The reason why Hughes and others are slower is due to their much higher altitude satellites (around 22,000 miles above Earth vs 300 miles for Starlink). The high satellite's pro is that they need far fewer of them to cover a given geographic area due to the larger cone coverage effect, but of course the downside is that it's slower due to longer distance the signal has to travel which also introduced higher latency compared to Low Earth Orbit (LOE) satellites like Starlink.
Hughes net makes me experience ptsd from how horrible it was. We just received our starling equipment, but still waiting on the mount for it. We live deep in the woods with usually 1-2 bars of cellular reception, and our hughsnet is absolutely horrible. Less than 1 megabit everyday of both download and upload speed. I can’t wait to finally set up our starlink internet 🙏
I have Hughes net and the reception is horrible. Took them 10 days to send a technician when broken. Starlink is on order
Appreciate you taking the time to educate us according to your knowledgeable perspective. God bless you, your fam, and thank you!!!
The best detailed review I have seen so far.. thanks for covering the fact that Ethernet port wasn't included by default, the ability to map sky area for best positioning, wifi range capability, price and possible reason for low Mbps transmission speeds
I just received my Starlink box and was a little intimidated to set this up. I’m feeling encouraged now that I watched your video. Thanks!
Where can this be purchased?
Thanks for this clear-cut eye-opening lecture about Starlink.
I just received my Starlink and ordered accessories for it. I thought the prices were very fair...not like Apple. But the boxing and simpiliicty of boxing and installation is Apple like. (ie. I use android.). My understanding is Starlink is still Beta. I LOVE ELON for bringing us into the future.
And most of the population Does nOT uPLOAD. i expect to be very happy tomorrow when I connect. LOV E
Ohh and think about GPS miltary and then free for ALL of us the last 20 yrs. INCOMING free Wi-Fi.. Thank you ELON

So happy to have you guys come to my device at improved, blazing fast, speeds!! I see that you have most of your gym equipment transferred to it's new home. And Pepper being Pepper was a blast!!! Thanks for sharing 👍
Thanks for the excellent report. We are getting our equipment this weekend!! We are major rural - so this will be a huge blessing!!
How's it working for you. I just moved to the middle of nowhere Florida. Considering starlink
did you use starlink?@@mariebee3146
I'm out on the countryside, no internet speed greater than 2 mbps. Just got my Starlink equipment TODAY!!! It took all of four days, seriously FOUR days. Can't wait to install.
Game changer!
Update?
I helped my friend setup Starlink at his home in Amelia, VA. It took a month to receive the Ethernet adapter. Now, he plugged in his eero Pro to the Starlink Ethernet adapter and he has whole house coverage again. Nice thing was that the eero still had his security cameras set up on that network and as soon as he plugged it in to the Starlink router everything came back online. This is so much better than the cell service he was using.
Iam surprised they do,nt try to make starling illegal.
Starlink
Please excuse my ignorance but is a Ethernet cable so you can plug in a desktop computer?
What is an eero?
@@genawatkins6636 Yes.
Really enjoyed watching this video. Thank you for explicit information concerning installation. Keep having fun with your pets.
This has been very helpful. We also live out here in the AZ desert and we've been trying to find reviews from the local community about Starlink to get a feel for it. Right now we have CenturyLink, which is...terrible. I'm talking 1-5 mbps download and almost no upload. So even with all the cons mentioned, it sounds a million miles ahead of what we have.
Outstanding technical and financial analysis. Thank you
Great job, you answered all the questions I had about starlink, thanks very much.
You are great and clear! Thank you for taking the time to inform us!
Full time RVers... Love our Starlink. So easy to setup and use.
The innovation and complexity of Starlink is truly remarkable. I have not ordered a dish, yet, but I appreciate the world changing event
under way.
It's 2023-08-08 and I've ordered Starlink for my parents in Croatia a few days ago. The kit plus shipping costs only €324 while the monthly service plan is just €50! The kit arrives in just a few days time. Their current ADSL connection is only delivering a few megabits speed while the uplink is producing no more than half a megabit. And yes, a single Gigabit Ethernet port would go a very long way. With any hope, Starlink/SpaceX will make such an improvement in whatever next generation they work on. Using your existing router is often the least messiest way to hook up to a new ISP. Thanks for the great video! Very helpful.
best unboxing/setup video of Starlink i've seen. THANK YOU! i get my Starlink today. Look forward to setting it up this weekend
We bought Starlink when we were in our RV along with our Verizon old 2 Jetpacks. We are pleased with Starlink.
Thank you, nice video! I usually shy away from unboxing videos so I'm really glad you didn't spend much time on that.
The video provided is both informative and thorough, effectively presenting the advantages and disadvantages of the subject matter. Its primary value appears to be its applicability to remote locations that are typically difficult to access. Interestingly, the video was recorded a year ago, today being May 18, 2023. It would be intriguing to know whether there have been enhancements to the system over this time, and if the suggestions offered by the instructor, presumably named Steve, have been implemented. This well-constructed video is appreciated, and I thank you for sharing it. I liked it and subscribed to the channel.
I plugged our starlink directly into our existing router as we have a LAN and use its wifi, Works great.
Great information. We're getting ready to move back to S. AZ and I just confirmed my order for Starlink a few days ago for down there. When we lived there before we were using "Broadband Wifi" which was absolutely horrendous. 14 down and maybe 3 up for close to $70 a month.
I am a shocked and disappointed in the upload speeds you showed though. I am a gaming youtuber and upload and stream often so the upload speeds you were showing was almost as bad as we were getting with that other company. UGH.
Looking forward to a follow-up soon. Great info!
I will never forget the glee I felt when a big SpaceX box arrived at my home!!
Just received mine yesterday, and waiting for the mounting bracket to come in today. Can't wait to tell my "blazing fast" 3mbps download, .5mbps upload DSL to go stuff it!

Just ordered mine here in Airlie Beach, Australia. Looks like I should be ordering the roof mount kit. Great video. Our prices here are $924AUD set up then $139AUD per month. From what people have reported here is 250-400mbps DL and 36-42mbps upload. When it’s overcasted I asked them how their connection is going and it they said there were still getting between 116-186mbps. Which I thought was impressive to be punching through rain and thick clouds. My NBN (broadband) doesn’t even come close to 1/4 of the those speeds I mentioned. Great video.
2.5down and 11 up. so glad I pay 90 bucks a month. just ordered, telsra gun gaslight sombody else :D
Oh my I loved how the dogs made this great
Just what I needed to know. Thanks!
GREAT VIDEO.... IT HELPS ME TO KNOW WHAT TO EXPECT WITH STARLINK... EXCELLENT REVIEWS ON PROS AND CONS👍 THANKS A LOT! 😎
Thanks for the video . We live in El Salvador up in the mountains. We just bought the system and in process of setting it up. Like you our internet here isnt the greatest. So we went with star link. We will see how it goes.
We just got ours but haven’t set it up yet. We put our down payment down 3 years ago (were waiting for satellites in our area, rural Canada), and of course a few weeks ago they announced a 50% off sale. Go figure! But I wasn’t willing to lose my space in line by canceling and reordering at a lower price. Turns out I didn’t have to!! I paid $367 (not including deposit) so they just automatically applied the discount for me! I was very pleased! (keep in mind this is Canadian dollars, so I guess it’s more like $250 USD total.
We’ve been getting 4-5 MBPS download speed, and .33 MBPS upload speed, so even if it’s only 4 or 5 MBPS up, I can handle that. It’s still MUCH better than .33!!
Thanks for all the good information!
We had the round dish Starlink delivered in January in Southern Spain.. the router has the Ethernet connection… the new one we have for the RV is the square one like the one you showed and is without the RJ connection! Our speeds are around 350mb down and 90 up… guess it depends where you are and of course the number of users must have an affect…
Awesome video! Thank you so much. Also, love the Welshmen!!
Thanks so much for the video. My son just sent me one. I was worried about how to set it up. I feel better about that now!
watched the whole thing! thank you! because of the dogs!! "good boys, good dogs"!
Thanks so much for this info!
I saw you walking home with your box, and I told myself you were in AZ, 26 years south of Sierra Vista! I went from mesquite trees to 150’ pines and fir, do have to work around obstructions, miss the beautiful sunrises and sunsets.
Thanks thats really helpful
I'm in Mexico, I've had mine for about a month, it works great only lost signal one day when it hailing really hard, I mean the hail was enormous and it lasted for a while and it was just during the worst that I lost the signal, it works when it rains hard or it's really windy, I'm super happy with it
I'm in Mazatlan. Can you walk me through the process of ordering the unit. Did you use the website and did they deliver to Mexico? Thanks in advance
Great informational video. Thanks
The pup is awesome!
there are currently very few ground stations near Arizona, 1 located near Yuma, and another in Panaca Nevada. As they add more ground stations, and the 2nd gen satellites that can communicate in space from satellite to satellite with lasers to bounce a signal to another ground station further away, your speeds should improve over time. Here in central TX, I can get up to 180 down x 20 up some days, but other times is as low as 50 down x 5 up
Ah, interesting! That's good to know, thanks.
@@AStreaminLife JChristina has a video up on that. It does depend on where you are routed thru at present. But until you have used dialup and later DSL, this will definitely be faster. You 2.51 up was at least 10 times faster than my current DSL upload speed and equal to the download speed.
You don't know what slow was. Try Frontier Internet. We got 600-900K. Yes K. We dumped Frontier, used Verizon hot spot and our Starlink just arrived today!
30-40 down and 16 up near Williams. Very disappointed in the performance.
How much per month to keep connected to the service
Love your dogs…. Can’t wait to get mine in Jamaica 🇯🇲… thank you for this vids and guidance.
Thank you so much for your awesome video I learned a lot from it and I hope to see more.
Just saw this video, thanks, it's what I needed. I ordered a Starlink for my RV. One thing though, you spoke about "Unlimited" internet from your cell provider. I have found that to be not true in practice, I've tried 3 different vendors. They each promise that IF I'm in a high use area like a major city that they MIGHT limit my throughput at 15 Gigs. However they all do this immediately at 15G. When I complained their response wasn't what I hoped for. At 15 G they limit me to the point where I believe a postcard would be faster.
Good luck with Starlink! Also, we certainly haven’t experienced any throttling out here.
Appreciate your vid! you're right, there ought to be a built in ethernet adapter.
Excellent review. One of the reason Starlink does not provide ethernet by default is to mitigate connexion sharing.
I love that you didnt reshoot this without the dog interruptions hahaha Best starlink review so far!
dogs helping..love it.
Good info thanks
Thanks for the info from a fellow Arizonan. I got my hardware 3 days ago, but my pomegranate tree is in the way. I’m waiting on my install hardware now.
I am an early adopter of Starlink. I am in the *entire Musk ecosystem - Tesla Y, Tesla Powerwall, Solar Panels, Starlink.
Initially I LOVED Starlink. It really is fantastic.
Then - something started happening and intermittent outages (probably cabling or router - cant' tell).
STARLINK CUSTOMER SERVICE IS THE WORST IVE EVER EXPERIENCED - NOBODY will answer your online support questions (from app in chat) and there is no phone number.
If you open multiple tickets after several days of no response, they DO monitor and delete the duplicate requests - but DONT answer the question at hand...
Long story short - I'm dumping Starlink and going back to a local provider - at least those guys answer my phone call.
Sad - because I am a OG Fanboi of Musk - but I cannot risk my access to the internet. I'll keep buying his cars for sure.
The improved heat tolerance and reduced electricity usage results from updated electronics and has little to do with the rectangular shape. The main advantage of the new shape are more compact packaging and that the narrower circuit board is more suitable for mass-production. The round dish had a circuit board width that is normally only used in high-end servers and very specialized electronics, not in consumer products.
Great info thank you!!!!
Thanks tlfornthis video. Answers a few questions and pretty much what I was thinking. If I move out to a very rual area here in AZ where my options are this and a dish I'd have to see what would be best between those.
love the review and the pets ❤
Great video, love the dogs too❤❤
Awesome vid man! keep it up!
Great info and loving your dogs 🐕 😀 👍
Also live in rural AZ. Just received and set up Starlink last night. It is replacing a different satellite internet provider.
Starlink speed 100x faster out of the box, not even optimized yet. We would use our cellphone mobile hotspot if we needed speed.
Starlink is $8.00 less per month than the other provider.
We can now cancel the satellite TV provider and stream the handful of channels we actually watch out of the 100s they bundle, cutting costs even more.
Excellent! Thank you
best review thank you😀
Your landscape is very familiar... We're in Cochise County and just got Starlink.. Ditched CenturyLink after 8 years of frustration. Great review... neighbor.
It looks dry out there and not too crowded. Your dogs look friendly and curious.
Dang, my granddaughter has a book titled “you get what you get, & you don’t get upset” 😂 based on star link’s main objective to provide high speed internet to remote rural areas, I would say they are doing a pretty good job. Improvements already in the dish, & more to come. Likely Ethernet ports to come & with more satellite’s improved speeds. Wash ur tighty whities & await more improvements
they already had an ethernet port on the gen1 version of the hardware, gen2 they just decided to have the wireless router and no port.
If they ever do make gen3 versions with a port again, they should ship all gen2 users with a new router that also has ethernet ports cause using a janky ethernet adapter inbetween the dish and router is annoying and just another possible point of failure.
Great video. Thnx.
I sort of stumbled Upon this video. Extremely informative, Easy to understand, You are very pleasant to listen to. I like it so much I gave you a👍 plus I subscribed. Looking forward to your next one. Richard, West Virginia, USA I wonder how they work in West Virginia lol?
Enjoyed the video.
This was a geat video, loved all the distractions
Hi from a farm in ZAMBIA, africa!!! Very happy with my jan 2023, speedy delivery and self set up of STARLINK!!!!
Whoo hoo way to go, i have an inverter aswell.
We have daily power outtages, and the worst internet system in zambia
Your dogs are the Best!
Great video, thank you👍👍
Best option for us just outside of the Anchorage area with no obstructions on our lot. Plus the auto sensor for snow melting is a life saver! They could have installed fiber in this new subdivision, but chose not to. I was upset at first, but all is well once Starlink was up n running in beast mode!
Been on the list for well over a year. It will finally be here tomorrow so I’m watching videos on it and trying to decide how to mount it i.e. pole mount in yard or on house. Leaning towards on house so I don’t have to trench in cable. Problem is my roof is very steep angle lol I don’t do heights well
thank you. great info.
Excellent video
I like your dog that helped :)
Great video!
I had a bad Connection for about 10 years in a German village but when I brought this new Handy LTD changed everything thanks LTD the Provider and the telephon.
Your dogs made your video… even better.. thank u
Thank you
Your cell booster being next to the cell hotspots makes them incapable of doing Multiple In Multiple Out (mimo). The TMobile hotspot is capable of doing 4x4 mimo. Unless you have already tested it you may be missing out on some speed by having it next to the cell booster. A DIY external antenna kit could help as well. I tried out StarLink RV in central Texas since we are still waiting for StarLink home. I have already requested a return. The speeds are terrible, I've seen it down to 1.69 down. Best test I had was 190, but that was 1 of 100+. I am moving back to the cell hotspot and hoping that when my wait is over for home based StarLink the kinks are worked out. Thanks for the video!
Good video thanks
Nice video, I just got mine and was hoping for a little faster speed. I have been usually running 50mb dl and was thinking I would be getting 100mb. The latency is amazing though. I think it may just be the network itself need more satellites. I was waiting for 2.5 years for mine in south Alabama. Hopefully it will increase soon.
Great Video👍🏾
well done.
Super cute sweet dogs!
LOL! I saw that your Wi-Fi name MyAssholeWelshie truly original. It's great to see people happy with their Starlink Dish. 09:46 Actually the speeds of other countries are normal speeds here in the United States it's been dictated by the FCC a spigot they control the flow of information just like your IP address for your region. Starlink is fairly new it has not yet reach "Economic Scale" where the prices would level off.
I converted my old satellite roof mount to flawlessly hold my Starlink antenna. I finally have internet that doesn't buffer. Happy enough! As long as the price doesn't go up, I will keep it!
I love my Starlink.
even the dog wants a share of starlink
Check that you are connected to the closest ground station and make sure you are facing the satellite the right direction i had starlink in Australia and got 300 down and 40 up and router had ethernet port hidden behind grommet
"had ethernet port hidden behind grommet" was that the first or second series of SL? (ie round dish = series 1 oblong = series 2)
Your Speeds are definitely due to your location, the further south you are the less satellites are available, Starlink sent more up along the Canadian border because that's where they started service. It's going to be a while until they get enough up there, also I think they diverted some of them for the Ukraine to help with the war over there, Russia was trying to block the signal so more bird's in the sky the harder it is to interfere with them.
I'm in South Australia which is pretty far south. Are you sure that coverage is worse the further south you are? The coverage map looks pretty good down here according to the website
Great unboxing video. Thanks for taking the time. Mine will be delivered Sunday (6.19.22) FedEx says after signing up Feb 2021...can't think of a better Father's Day present. I know speed will be way better than my present 10 down and 2 up but then so will the price be way more as presently I pay nothing. I host a wireless tower hence my free service.
Wow. And I thought mine took a while. Ordered 6/25/21. Dish should be arriving today (6/28/22).
Is that the home starlink or rv?
Please note that T-mobile "unlimited fast connection" is capped at 50GB, after 50GB connection is damn slow. However there is no cap for starlink. I use T-mobile hotspot and 50GB will get over in 8 to 12 days time. So whatever starlink charging is very cost effective for anyone who rely completely on starlink.
Dont you just love how all the little details manage to get left out? lol As far as speed fluctuations, all services experience this.
@@AtomicPunx Oh shit, the sun just burped again, tie up your shoe laces. Nothing, has absolute perfection!
I received my Starlink a month ago after 14 months and ordered the EATHERNET ADAPTOR the same day that I finalise my order I received the EATHERNET ADAPTOR a little over a week ago. When I first set it up I was only getting 45-50 Mbps downhill and 10-15 Mbps uphill, then the first of it week it went 170 Mbps down and 15-30 up and now its back to the 40-45 down 10-15 up. One thing that I have notice is the speeds are faster early in the mornings than in the afternoon's and evenings. I suspect its user conjestion becouse of kids getting home from school and people getting home from work.
Your puppy is stealing the show!
Nice dog 😂 love them
