    Yes you do need an antenna for a cb radio. Depending on your vehicle, you can put a magnetic on on your roof, one on the side of your hood, or one on your mirror. You can get the antenna and mounting bracket at almost any truck stop.

    Everything is mounted nicely and power is now straight to the battery. This was my first mod and knew shit about wiring. I'm now pretty good and installed my train horn alone :)

    @TriangleSandwiches Yeah. I bought 2 whips and a dual cord and a single cord. I tested it out with a friend from 7 miles away and the duals had the better reception and had range of 10+ miles. They are 4 footers and there is no background noise from the engine.

    i got it working today i was pretty suprised how loud it was. its a good thing you told me it had to be mono because i was about to make my power horn into a grill speaker.

    If you don’t want to buy that cig lighter adapter I wired my positive to the radio fuse (will also work on cig lighter fuse) and grounded the negative. Works fine after 3 months

  • @TriangleSandwiches
    @TriangleSandwiches  12 років тому

    @The1911aMansGun - no worries. The black and white wires that run off the powerhorn need to connect to a wire in which has a 3.5mm male end(connects into CB). The other side of the 3.5mm wire needs to be cut. Now the wire NEEDS TO BE MONO. Stereo will not work. Sorry if I did not clarify. So the ipod wire will not work. Radioshack sells MONO wires that are 3.5mm. Once you cut off one of the male ends, strip back the wires and twist or solder them to the wires off the powerhorn.
    Lmk how it goes.

    Probably the worst quality video I've seen in awhile. I loved it!

  • @TriangleSandwiches
    @TriangleSandwiches  13 років тому

    @The415guy - no it pulls barely any power whatsoever when on and not in use. If you are very concerned about it draining anything, just turn it off when not in use.
    Yet usually when u plug into an accessory fuse, you dont have to worry about forgetting to turn it off as it will by itself when the key is out of the ignition.

    great video.it gave me a ideal i just got a cb. and was looking around for 100 watts pa speaker my radio shack never has much. just on line.
    so i check out ebay found one. 100 watts. and it has
    •5 Siren sounds: Hooter/Ambulance/Traffic/Police/Fire alarm
    •100 W Speaker gives very loud sound - about 300 decibels at full volume
    12 volt
    •Microphone for PA system
    •Speaker is 18cm long and 11cm height
    so i hope i can use the pa part.
    around 20 bucks, plus shipping.

    gonna keep the speaker inside and use it as a karaoke system to sing along side my car's stereo system 😛

  • @TriangleSandwiches
    @TriangleSandwiches  14 років тому

    @The4mericans Ok this is what you do. Saw off the big ass cone around the speaker .. just the plastic so you dont ruin anything. It makes it SOOO much easier to mount it places.

  • @xXShadowRejectsXx
    @xXShadowRejectsXx 12 років тому

    @TriangleSandwiches i know. i dont mean wire it to a fuse, wire it to the fuse box to a fuse, take out the fuse in a fuse box, shove the wire in the terminal and put the fuse back in, it has power and when the trucks off, it it will turn off

  • @TriangleSandwiches
    @TriangleSandwiches  14 років тому +1

    yea i've heard that too so just stay on PA :)
    and yea if you have an antenna and a speaker you can switch between the 2.

  • @TriangleSandwiches
    @TriangleSandwiches  13 років тому

    @TheJammedToilet - its not in the engine compartment at all, but as long as its away from moving parts ur fine.. just dont mount it anywhere near a fan or belt and ur fine lol
    and no its completely weatherproof. ive submerged it completely in water and mud while offroading and it works like new.

  • @TriangleSandwiches
    @TriangleSandwiches  12 років тому

    thats exactly what the box read. you don't need tinned ends. just buy the mono wire even if it has a male at both ends. cut off one end and cut off the rubber housing to expose the wires

  • @TriangleSandwiches
    @TriangleSandwiches  12 років тому

    @adam - no. The cb powers the speaker alone. You can hook an iPod to the speaker and it will play, just not very load.

  • @TriangleSandwiches
    @TriangleSandwiches  12 років тому

    @superg00nsquad - not sure about that. Try using a stereo 3.5mm wire instead of mono, and plugging into a line out source on the head unit or audio player.
    It will play, but will be pretty quiet. You'd have to run an amplifier through it I'm sure.

  • @TriangleSandwiches
    @TriangleSandwiches  14 років тому

    you can wire them into your fusebox, or you can wire straight to your battery. Red to positive and black will need to be grounded along the metel part inside the engine bay.

    nice simple way to hook up a PA speaker i like it

  • @TriangleSandwiches
    @TriangleSandwiches  13 років тому

    @vidkid- headphones should be fine. Just cut off the earbuds and run one wire to positive and one to negative. If the sound doesn't work switch the pos and neg. I think it should work fine. That's a good idea

    i was thinking about gettin a pa before. i found the same one you have the speaker for 35 bucks im buying it now and i have a high performance cb radio. this video is really gonna help me out. im gonna get train horns too so i might ask you questions if you dont mind. thanks for all the info

  • @TriangleSandwiches
    @TriangleSandwiches  14 років тому

    you need to take those wires and twist each one around the 3.5mm wires tinned ends.
    so basically the 3.5mm wire has red/black wires at the end just like the speaker.
    take the speakers white and twist the around the 3.5mm's red. Then take the speakers black and swist it around the 3.5mm's black. the electrical tape around each twist so they stay put.
    And there ya go! any more questions let me know?

  • @TriangleSandwiches
    @TriangleSandwiches  12 років тому

    No, it's just the way I went about it. Plus you have the option to hook up the CB later down the road. More versatility I guess you can say.

    Instead of that adapter, I used an old cell phone charger cut the wire and striped the ends. Then I used a volt meter to test which wire was positive and negative.

  • @TriangleSandwiches
    @TriangleSandwiches  12 років тому

    @thephonekiller - Point down towards the ground so it resonates off at all angles, or just mount the speaker point outwards in an open area. Check connections and make sure cord is MONO. Check voltage with a voltmeter to see if you are getting a full ~12v to the CB. And if you can solder the connections to ensure the best conductivity.

  • @tizit88
    @tizit88 14 років тому

    @MyCoolAimName1 no you can run the wire to either a fuse or your battery.the adapter is a good way though.

    @ajd- I had the Same problem with size! Just cut the big ass plastic cone surrounding the speaker(just not the middle cylindrical piece). And take off the spring and mount so the metal circle piece is attached to the speaker only. Then find a bolt on you chasie or bumper and tighten in down through the hole.. I'll make another better video soon lol

    hey man, ill tell you buy a 15w amp that you would use for fog lights cut the ends off the wire and splice it into the power wire that hooks your speaker to the CB, it will make the speaker WAY louder, i got my 1st ticket today with it. and when you put it under the hood like that you need as much power as you can get

  • @TriangleSandwiches
    @TriangleSandwiches  12 років тому

    @xXShadowRejectsXx - Yea you can run it to an accessory fuse, but it barely pulls any power. Shouldn't notice any power loss if you forget to turn it off.

    is it possible to have to "walkie" mic just wired to the horn without a cb at all?? I have a pa horn in my van and I just want to use that. No cb

  • @TriangleSandwiches
    @TriangleSandwiches  14 років тому

    @cj397 - radioshack but i suggest you just wire the positive to the positive of your battery and ground you ground wire under a bolt on your frame.

  • @TriangleSandwiches
    @TriangleSandwiches  13 років тому

    @ L33t- just run wires an mount to your frame. It doesnt need to be next to the battery.
    I doubt they sell a CB radio with sirens on them. I know they sell little amps that have the PA function and many sirens and animal noises(like ice cream trucks) but with no CB SETTING.
    If your CB has no antenna you will not get a signal at all, and it's supposedly bad for the radio to be switched into CB mode without an antenna.

  • @TriangleSandwiches
    @TriangleSandwiches  13 років тому

    @jsanc- that's where I got mine.. But I'd like to recommend to not go that route. Wire the red directly to your positive and the black to any bolt you can find a good ground. Not only is it cleaner but it will get more power.

  • @TriangleSandwiches
    @TriangleSandwiches  13 років тому

    @cokewhitechevy - cut the other end of the wire off and splice so you get neg and positive showing the wire with the neg and pos of the speaker and solder(optional) then tape

    @TriangleSandwiches Hey man i think i figered it out. This friday i will have all the Parts. Well just need the amp now. The whole thing cost me $160. I will put up a video on how to do it and what to buy. took me a day to figer this all out but i got it down. Soon i will have 100 watts PA system instead of 4-15 watts. i dont remember how many watts the Cb radio puts out.

  • @duo090
    @duo090 11 років тому

    You can get PA systems on their own. If you're going to be using it in your car then you're better off getting the CB. It's cheap and small and it works great for PA.

  • @TriangleSandwiches
    @TriangleSandwiches  13 років тому

    @BowHunterAz08 - its fine as long as its in PA mode. most people doing this tut only want the CB for the PA usage and don't care about the CB capabilities.
    I also mentioned it in the video on a text box i beleive

    Didn't notice any change in loudness if that's what your talking about. I sawed it right above the grommet where the wire comes out of the speaker. Just make sure not to cut the smaller cone inside.

    1) why would you hide your CB, they arent illegal. 2) why would you mount your speaker in your engine, the speaker may heat up, you will not be able to hear it, and anybody your receiving will only blast in the engine bay and not in the cab so anybody outside will hear it but you will not. 3) why did you buy a automatic truck.

    • @TheSamplebridge
      @TheSamplebridge 9 років тому

      ***** if you gonna use it to talk to people, mount it on your roof, also (atleast on mine) when you hear someone on the radio it blars through the speaker.

    Just an FYI do not try to only hook up a PA system to older cb radios. If you supply power to the cb without it being connected to a cb antenna it will fry the radio! It is perfectly ok with newer models. For sure do not try with any 23 channel ones and i would be weary with ones before 1995
