I remember telling someone this, and she was shocked and looking at me like I was crazy. I said, "Girl, what are you doing after you swim?" I took that example because that would be the one that would hit the hardest. Everyone knows you GOT to get that chlorine out your hair......so you are just letting it stay there, GIRL BYE 😂😂. 😂 first off… yes mine is growing under these crochet braids 😂 and the proof is my chunk of unfortunate hair I cut off by accident trying to get them out 😢😂
You're toooo young if you dont get the AALIYAH reference IMMEDIATELY!! LMAO The trick ladies is length RETENTION not just the growth. Your hair is always growing out the scalp, but if it is not retained it will seem the same length. People always ask me what I do do get my hair to grow past bra length. Its not the growth that matters, its the retention. But then when I tell them what i do, they say that's too much work. Duh, of course it takes work!
Braids be having my hair grow so good I be a whole new person when I take them down and wear my natural lol. Now if I could stop being so scissor happy
😂 This is so true. I've actually dreamt multiple times over the years when i had braids in that my hair would be down to my lower back when the braids were taken down. Life is cruel
😂😂😂😂 at the Aaliyah reference. In my almost 30 years of being back to natural, what I have learned about wearing braids is that MY hair loves being in cornrows. It grows best that way. So I do a lot of styles that way. My favorite these days are crochet styles, which have cornrows as the base. My hair grows A LOT in these styles. And I read in the comments where someone said keep the scalp clean and moisturized. Yep. I use apple cider vinegar/water mixture on cotton balls when my hair and go through my scalp to clean it.
6 months!?!? Max for me is 3. However, I am not one to be that delulu😂😂😂. While I have them on, I take Biotine and Zinc vitamins. It helps a lot with them extra inches we dream about!!!😂😂😂😂
If you are not moisturizing your hair in those braids, your hair may not be growing. I kept mine washed and moisturized. I made sure to lock in the moisture when I had my hair braided too. When I took them out, I had an additional 6 inches of hair growth. My stylist (my aunt) was in complete shock and so was I. It could have been the products I was using. I don't know. But my hair tends to grow a lot when it's braided.
Taking mine down, lots of time consuming work, had micro braids; nice LONG break, that's always been my primary purpose for braiding my hair and I like how braids look, HOWEVER, when the period of up keep arrives, you're constantly braiding, cause there's always a loose one!
At least you had cornrows sis. My crazy self didn’t even bother. My head looked like the back or side of most infants head when it started. Then I just two strand twisted. I saw a lot of growth! 😅
Specifically when I went natural I noticed braids was more presentable and convenient BUT not the best option for MY hair to grow …. I kinda gave up on braids … I’ll venture back over there erry once in a while it’s NOT my 1st choice at all
I truly get braids so I dont have to mess with my hair for extended periods of time. But that growth is a lovely bonus. It seems to grow faster after a big chop though
When I was about 8 my mom had put braids in my hair. They stayed in for about 2-3 months. When we took them out my hair had dreaded up. So I kept my dreads for 7.5 years after that. I cut them the summer before 10th grade

Yes, and moisturizing (not just oiling the scalp). People skip these steps and it’s why they’re not seeing maximum length retention.

A 30in bust down AFTER the braids come out 😂😂😂😂😂😂
The sad part is that the new growth is so dehydrated, after being in braids for months, that it breaks off.
