The safety car should have come out immediately or the whole straight should have been yellow flagged. Yellow flagging a section of track that goes by in 1 second shouldn't even be an option. It's ridiculous.

Its really simple!!!! Max saw the double yellow flags and lifted, Norris had more time to see the yellow flags, wasn't paying attention, didn't see them and didn't lift on a fast part of the track! he was too busy trying to catch Max. That's dangerous driving, the rule book says 10 sec stop and go. SIMPLE!!!! If it was Max you wouldn't have a problem with the penalty! But oh no! we cant have an English driver getting a penalty! Its pathetic. I'm fed up with F1 commentators, they are mostly English and biased towards English drivers. Their job is to commentate impartially. Qualifying was the same, Max slowed on the out lap because the car in front of him slowed and he wanted to keep the same distance for his hot lap, Russell wasn't paying attention and nearly ran into the back of him! There is a big difference between driving round a track fast and driving fast while taking in and reacting to what's going on around you at the same time. Something Russell and Norris seem incapable of.

    1) It would have been possible to throw a VSC and have a marshal nip out and pick up the complete wing-mirror while it was intact. Once somebody hits it (like Valterri) it instanly shatter and throws shards of all sorts everywhere.
    2) Those double waved yellows were almost impossible to see - judging by the TV footage. In a dark sky race if they are going to continue using flags, they need some way to illuminate them by the marshal. Otherwise, the marshal themselves needs an illuminated board they can hang out.
    3) There is a lack of trusting the stewards by having an inflexible rule book. With the confused marshaling they needed to be able to say "this only warrants a 5-second penalty" or "look at it after the race". Yes, Max saw the flags and Lando didnt but a 10-sec stop and go was OTT.
    4) The one place grid drop for Max was an oddity. What was that about? In the end it only sought to motivate Max even more and whatever advantage George might have thought he was angling for, was gone PDQ.
    5) Overall there seems to be a lack of consistency with rules and application in a number of recent races. This refelects badly on the sport. Yes, Max (and others in the past) have pushed the rules to the limit because if you dont, you are leaving time on the table for somebody else to pick up. Quite often that looks poor form too (dash it, its just not British) but the authorities do what they've done previously. Change the rules. But apply the equally!!

Yeah in this case stewards were actually consistent for once, it just seems shockingly harsh to viewers because we haven't seen it happen in a while. But Mazepin ignored double yellow in 2021 Austrian GP and got the same: 10 seconds stop and go. Same for Räikkönen in 2017 at Spa. It also doesn't matter if there's a serious incident ahead or not, ignoring double yellows are always punished this severe.

The lack of clarity has been going on since the V8 era to be fair. A number of figures in the sport contributed to this contiuous behavior. Drivers cutting corners, hitting each other, cutting pitlane, teams running illegal car components, some receiving clear favoritism, cheating scandals, the list goes on. Lack of clarity and consistancy is only one reason the viewer base shrunk from 650 million viewers in 2006 down to 275 million by 2017.
The viewers have been seeing the bs for a long time and now the drivers are finally starting to find their voices too. The sport needs a hard reset to get itself right. Regs, leadership, points structure, the technology, it all needs to be rethought.

How can they called it so late when debris at straight line track where the only place they do overtake, I know they were not in racing line but its where driver can overtake others with DRS. Were they want to yellow flag it for the rest of race if Valteri never run it over or Sainz and Lewis didn't get punctured? It mean no overtake for rest of race then.

Even if the Drivers' Championship is closed (congratulations Max, it was well earned!), I was enjoying Lando and Max's race and was waiting for the overtaking moves... then the Stop and Go penalty ruined it. And let's not even get started on the punctures; it seriously harmed the race and even the Constructors' Championship with the punctures for Ferrari... not to mention it could have caused a much worse accident. Sorry, this is very unfair to the stewards and race controller. ... Even with so many cameras, the commentators only noticed the debris just a few seconds before cars ran over it. ... The race controller gets signals from the marshals, and the marshals report the level of risk … Don't forget the race controller also has to prioritise race continuity and minimise stoppages. ... We the fans, and even this UA-cam channel, many times we criticise race controllers for too many safety cars etc ruining the race. We can't have it both ways. … Finally, the danger was not as high as you say. This was debris, not a crashed car parked on a corner, and there are a huge number of races where fibreglass on the track was not a reason for halting the proceedings. ... Just saying, the safety, the support vehicles, the marshals, the stewards, the race controller, they are all brilliant in an extremely difficult job of monitoring 6 km of road in real-time and making decisions in sometimes mere seconds. Let's give them a bit of slack and a bit of love 👍❤

Can’t really agree with all you comment. The mirror was mentioned by the commentators at least two laps before the safety car was brought out … nearly 4 minutes.
It’s the RD’s decision on when debris can be left or removed - it should have been obvious that it could have caused punctures - which it did - on the fastest part of the track.
It was poor decision making by the RD.
The Abu Dhabi 2021 debacle was caused by trying to get the SC off the track and to return to finish under green. Sticking to procedure would have been a better outcome.
Whatever is decided how to handle these situations, it must be implemented consistently. Even if it interferes with the last 2 laps of the race.
Another example was Japan 2022? when it pelted down with rain with only a few laps to go. Rather than finish the race under SC, the cars were left on track, with zero visibility and a 10 tonne crane as well that Gasly almost crashed into.
Just be consistent, trying to ‘not interfere’ with the race actually has the opposite effect. If an SC is needed, use it.

That 10 second stop and go would have been used multiple times but never did...was it harsh yup I think so no matter who would have done it, for this way too harsh...but yup all the #33**** fanboys are screaming...but it's time for the drivers to drive and not whine over the radio it isn't kindergarten....

Oh look. Another AI generated video jumping on the F1 bandwagon. If Max was given the same penalty, you wouldn’t be bothered at all. But oh no, not a penalty for a British driver! Surely that can’t be happening!!
