You are correct regarding the Rebbe Rayatz knowing hashem will release the Rebbe from prison since seen the divine providence.

The Rebbe Rayatz had the trust that everything is a divine providence and seen how everything is a divine providence and trusted that the release from prison will happen. That being said the highest form of מסירות נפש of today are the soldiers of the Israeli army. Thus what Ive told the state of Israel to remove some women from the army or at least show they are moving in that direction suffice for now, however if lubavitch chassid asked me whats my position on women serving in the army my answer would be absolutely under no circumstances should women serve in the army.
I am not a Rav i am a congregational Rabbi. A similar story is once told i believe regarding Rabbi Shmuel Lew regarding a rabbi who was in opposition with Lubavitcher Rabanim on the Halachic topic of mikveh and the rebbe said take the rabbi who stood in the opposition and allow that rabbi to serve as a שוחט.
