I wonder what the melting temp is for the wax. I Trap in attics which Can get up to 140 in summer time.
Baker’s wax, often used in baking and food preparation, typically melts at a temperature range of 140-150°F (60-65°C)
This is a great idea. I had not thought of using a non food substance for bait. Thanks for making this! I use marshmallow, vanilla, and some Nutella.
your welcome...good luck
I'm planing on doing this for are squirrels that are not good and trapping them. I could not find good bait but now i think this will work great to entice the squirrel to the trap thanks.
Good luck!
Peanut Butter makes squirrels go crazy, Their favorite!
correct!
Can paraffin wax also be used in this recipe instead of bakers or regular wax? Thanks in advance.
Yes, he actually said that in the video.
Appreciated the video. Didn't have a problem with the length of the video. Unfortunately, our squirrels like to chew the wiring on our automobiles better than anything else.
It can just be stabbed onto the prongs of 110 conibears etc?
Does the wax make it flexible at all?
Wonder if one can use corn meal in place of the saw dust and bees wax instead of the edible wax. Maybe a little chocolate in the mix.
might work, i have been experimenting with other things as well
Man I laughed out loud when you were explaining to the younguns what an ice cube tray was !!! That bait is a great idea. Love your channel and all the terrific tips and info you share. Cheers from Southeastern Ontario
Glad you enjoyed
It is sad younguns do not know what ice trays are nor, a home line phone…😂
Might try letting the bait firm up a little more and then heating the pan slightly and the entire block will fall out and then slice into usable sizes
good idea for sure,
I wonder if corn meal or oatmeal pulsed in a food processor will work instead of sawdust. I quess you just need someting to soak up the green apple concentrate.
Great idea! I’d replace the sawdust with cheap oatmeal because it absorbs great as well. But yea I like it
Perfect suggestion !!!!
Oatmeal and birdseed.
I dont have sawdust, but I have some clay granules for cleaning up oil spills. It’s just plain clay, not kitty litter. U think if I powder it up it’ll work like sawdust?
not really sure....can't hurt to give it a try,
Your mink bait recipe saved me this season when I ran out of fish scraps. I caught 3 on the mink paste bait!
Glad to hear it!
Thats animal cruelty, this is wrong.
You may be right. I find it more humane to cull grey squirrel numbers by shooting them in the head with a quality air rifle instead of trapping them. But I might try this bait if it assists in keeping them still longer for me to take a clean shot.
@@mirandack4350 when these animals eat our food it's human cruelty, go figure
Does this work with Grey Squirrels ? Reds are protected here in the UK while Greys are deemed to be pests.
yep, sure will
Excellent video. Where can I buy the green apple extract? What brand do you use?
In the description
or just put a little peanut butter on a stick, works every time. Sorry I'm lazy!
yep, that works to...
The problem with peanut butter is that ants can take it all away in a matter of hours.
@@mikeyeska7056 lol true
I thought the wax was to kill them. What good would subbing peanut butter be?
@@carolro6673 it is bait to lure them into a trap
Oh, my packrats are going to love this. Cariboo BC
Probably could use some raw steel cut oats instead of sawdust to soak up the extract, if sawdust not readily available.
great tip
Squirrelinator trap, and hand full of peanuts I caught 8 squirrels in one day
I love the bait making videos
Thank you....and thanks for watching
Ordered the bucket trap from rod in TN. Which baid do u prefer for raccoons, the cherry mix or the bacon greese?
i like the bacon grease and cat food one to start
if they are trap shy....the cherry
Why not pour this liquid into an ice cube container, they are then ready blocks. You could half-fill them for smaller blocks as well. Great video NBWildman and thanks for the tips.
Great idea!
would this work for rats and mice? I like this
this would be great to mix with floating fish food pellets to make a dp bait for raccoons ,just going to keep stirring to coat the pellets with the apple scent and wax . i tried apple slices on baited pole sets and kept catching raccoons . this is a great idea about the squirrel bait and gave me ideas for dp bait .
Sounds great!
@@NBWildman going to try it ,i have pvc dummy dp's and going to get some apple concentrate and i have leftover floating catfish food pellets . sounds like a good use for a game camera .
have you ever used this for rabbits,I have seen videos where guys use slices of apple for bait?
never tried it on rabbits, not a bad idea though
Hazelnut extract the best!!!
I would forgo the extra work with the sawdust and wax. Just apply a heavy dose of that natural apple green extract onto peanuts. You're good to go. The smell is what attracts the squirrel not the wax and sawdust. That's a given! Thanks for the natural apple green extract tip. Maybe a dab/smudge of creamy peanut butter. It should enhance your odds of catching them.
Great point!
@NitroLPR9 Okay! Here's what you do next. Smear the creamy peanut butter onto the acorn. Go down to home depots or lowe's and purchase a cage trap for small animals such as squirrels. The brand to get is Havahart. Gurantee you will catch them if you do it right. Insert bowl of peanuts. Lightly smear your creamy peanut butter over the peanuts. You will have success in catching these varmints.
@@kerrytom4731 mostly those traps don’t work. You may catch a couple.. catch and release- nope!! You can drop them miles and miles away and they will come back!!
Heres what you do next, stop being mean and hurting squirrels. If you want the squirrels to leave than use coffee grounds, anything orange. What youre doing is animal cruelty, and its wrong. Everything you do and say in this world matters, you will be judged by God and God will condemn you to hell for this.
@@mirandack4350 Yeah, no, I prayed for 2 years and God didn't do shit to help with it. This year, I've killed at least 7 that were all in my yard simultaneously. Get over yourself. They are a pest and need to be culled and controlled. Remember, every thing you say and do will be judged by God. So take your own advice. And being condemned to Hell isn't that easy, mate. Get over yourself.
Does the wax cover the apple smell?
Thumbs up to you sir.
GOOD ONE
thanks for watching
Good, good stuff 👍
supposedly possum and coons also like apple. I had been using peanuts in my squirrelinator and so far all I get are possum and coon. But I really want to remove those damn squirrels. Will this be more squirrel specific?
This video could have been 30 seconds long.
thanks for your input.
Click bait
What would you use for moles
Does it attract insects, like ants and flies?
Wonder if doing the same process but using ansi extract would work on raccoons??
Can't see why not
I wonder if whitetail deer might like this?
I have three chain saws but I don't save the sawdust, I hoard enough as it is. I think crushed peanut shells, even with the peanuts mixed in, would do the same trick. I think the benefit of this bait is longevity, not convinced it would be better than PB.
Great idea. Perhaps lard boiled can be used as a replacement for Bakers wax if you cant get local as that is what I use for rats which is mixed with spearmint oil.
TLDW=Sawdust, melted wax and green apple extract.
Or just use a gob of peanut butter if you dont wanna cook.
Thnxs
no problem
I wonder if this will work for muskrat?
can't see why not..
What is type Apple extract is it for brewing
My problem is getting a good smelly bait without attracting a shlt load of ants. That's why I don't like using peanut butter. Will this bait attract ants?
Thanks ! Going to try it on the squirrels at the lake ! They are tearing into my cabin and need to be …..exterminated? Lol going to try this with some 110 coni bears and see how that goes ! Stay turned !
Ty
Apple wood for smoking, apple extract for the dust wax.
great idea
Deer corn. $13 for 50 lb. Deer, rabbits, mice, rats and squirrels love it
I cant get my squirrels to touch deer corn. Hmmm
@@garynasrallah8710 They must have something better. I can't keep them out of mine. If they're fox squirrels that might make a difference. All of mine are gray.
Have you ever tried it with doe estrus?
have i tried doe estrus as squirrel bait??....no
I think the nutria in the Willamette Valley would love this bait as well as the squirrels.
we don't have nutria here, but I'll take your word for it !
I’ve googled Bakers wax and Al I come up with is Paraffin wax. Every time.
Thanks for the bait recipe. Unfortunately no Prime shipping for Canada, but if the bait works, it will save me the cost of vegetables ruined by squirrels.
Sorry to hear that
@@NBWildman No worries. It will be worth the cost in the end.
Have you tried this on the squirrels? How did it work? I have tried everything on those dang rats(squirrels)!!!
@@annmcneal7804 I did try it and I it didn't have much effect. Maybe a little play. But the apple smell really didn't last long. I will try it again in the spring and see what happens.
I also notice I got more squirrels in the spring and early summer, when they were so greedy for food. But not much in the fall.
I might just go back to fresh peanuts and peanut butter.
@@trh4982 if youre wanting to repel them than why not try coffee grounds? Fake cats? Anything orange scented? Stop using peanuts and peanut butter. Stop hurting the squirrels, its animal cruelty. They do so many things that is beneficial that you dont know about. If you ever have a burglar, your dog isnt gonna stop a burglar or help protect you. All the burglar has to do is get a peanut butter sandwich to your dog, and than the burglar is able to come inside your home, steal your stuff and harm you.
What is that apple flavour called?
Green apple concentrate
I found a lot of the squirrel or mouse poops on the attic. 🤨😐 I will force myself to clean the poops up soon.
Tootsie rolls work for me. It's like squirrel crack 😂 Carmel squares are like heroin 😂 they keep coming
WHAT A GIANT WASTE OF TIME...........ANSWER PEANUT BUTTER
Just use peanut butter with peanuts with the shell on.
good tip !!
You don't even need the peanut butter, just a small pile of peanuts in the shell in a live trap. I've caught hundreds this way.
👍
Does this actually kill the squirrels or is it just bait?
it's a bait, it's not poison to kill them
can you make some lethal bait for moles? I've tried the poison plastic worms and different kinds of traps too numerous to mention...still got moles tearing up my yard... thx
Try "ramik mole and gopher bait" its green pellets works great.
Apple flavored fire starters. I actually thought there would be peanut butter.
All chocolate has perifin wax in it. It's not special wax. Its just parifin wax from petrolium production.
I have tried everything!!!
Interesting might have to try this for rat
Go for it!
Does this attract rabbits?
peanut butter works for me.
You DIDN'T show how thick the bait was.
Deer corn works the best and cheapet
How to rid squirrels from attic
Peanuts or pecans. Your welcome.
Crack works well also.
Let me simplify it for you just get some walnuts.
Use paper one use bathroom cups
nice idea
I would rather eat the wax over the sawdust. Just looking at the pile under my tablesaw, no way could I think about eating that. Wax and honey is good.
You're 😍 handsome!
Way to wordy.
*too
This 13 minute video only had 3 minutes of info.
5 minutes tops.
Use 2X speed
Lot of noise not much information
I am not doing all of that I will just pay crazy 😜 Jimmy to kill my squirrels 🐿 he eats them for breakfast 🥞, lunch and dinner 🍽 who am I to destroy his food 🍱 source. Go crazy Jimmy
Forgive my ignorance, are you trapping squirrels to eat? Or do you have a squirrel 'problem' in your neighbourhood. :)
depends on the season, i also do a fair amount of ADC work.
wow, you make me so nervous....
How r u
All good
Gotta love a guy that uses 1000 words when 10 would do... SMH
thank you for your incredibly helpful comment. We all do the best we can.
Bro talk slower like way slower
TLDR;
No worries, dude's just making fake apple bait when real apples work just fine because they are..................apples.
Geeze! Can you possibly talk any faster?
Thought the same. Could barely stand the fast talk.
Stop abusing those sweet squirrels, this is animal cruelty. You should be reported, and put in jail for this.
I live in a historic district with wonderful old homes. But the grey squirrel population has gone unchecked for decades due to the lack of natural predators leading to many homes being damaged by these squirrels and causing hundreds of thousands of dollars in repairs. It’s amazing what a good air rifle can do to restore balance after putting down 40 confirmed squirrels in a 6 month period. Now my desired song birds can repopulate and nest in peace without murdering squirrels stealing their eggs. This approach promotes life. That’s God’s work if you ask me.
I just watched a video showing how squirrels have caused many thousands $ to alfalfa farmers. They live in burrows and come out to eat the crops. They are extremely destructive rodents.
Can u talk a bit FASTER KEEP MISSIN BITS CHEERS
i sure can...stay tuned for more videos....
