Because most players in games like LoL are low-IQ dolts that chase damage, damage, DAMAGE. Items... runes... most players just take the "what gives more damage?" routes. The game has played into this by making kill times faster and faster. So the players often want to blow things up faster.

its exactly that. 5 players, 3 lanes 1 jungle. because of this you see some weird support picks/champs. Pyke for example is a roaming support and can generate money from executing so doesnt fit the traditional support role of sticking with the ADC. you also have the mage supports (lux, brand, xerath) that provide CC and can them build up to a lot of dmg in the late game. the poor under levelled role actually makes the game more interesting, the other 4 roles are fairly stale and repetative and usually on-meta compared to support, which is a lot more dynamic with what champs can play there.

The support role is all about being useful on the lowest income in the game and there are many ways to go about doing this, not just by playing a traditional support. Brand happens to be a champ that can still do top damage while a full item behind in the lowest income role. Is he a support? Nope. But, he completely works in the lowest income role. And that's why he will continue to be picked there.
@@DisastrousIntentionally exactly! 12:20 hits nail on the head, Brand only really needs Rylais to be useful, a support can get that item so so so easily. so it makes sense for Brand to be in the support role, then if the game goes late game you have a full build mage that provides utility and shit tonnes of tank killing dmg, which no other support can contend with.
He's in support role because of pick rate, not because he's actual support. The role recommendation thing is not set by Riot, it's an algorithm that decides the main role of a champ based on total pick rate. Olaf is a good example back when he was S+ meta in both top and jungle after his gameplay update, till they kneecapped his jungling at the end of last year. Olaf could be in top laner tab in 1 game, then randomly appear in jungler tab instead when you play a 2nd game. This was because Olaf had a 20+% ban rate and fluctuated between 43%-47% pick rate for both jungle and top lane. Brand is in support tab exactly because his pick rate for support exceeds mid lane. Brand only need 2 items to become a menace and make team fights dangerous, plus it satisfies the autofilled support's fantasy of being a carry in support role. There's a reason you don't see any actual support mains play Brand, yet Brand have such a high pick rate in support. If you want to find someone to blame, blame the carry role players who immediately go for Brand whenever they get autofilled support.

Brand was one of my first favorites because his kit was simple enough for me to understand but also rewarded me for proper combos and positioning.
Just proves that champion mastery ia always more worth than playing what's meta constantly. High rank one tricks are literally better than pro players on their specific champion.
Brand is a midlaner and not a support. No one will convince me otherwise, irrespective of whether or not he's bad in mid and good in support.
I felt ufathomably old after seeing the notification, for a second I thought "Brand mid is off-meta?..."
