I was a teen in this glorious heyday of Chicago radio. Johnny B & Buzz then handoff to Kevin Matthews (sprinkle some Bruce Wolf in there), into Steve Dahl and Garry Meier. We had it good boys. We had it Really good.
I just came across this; used to listen to Volkman's impersonation years ago on Chicago radio. THE BEST DAMN' IMPERSONATION of ANYBODY BY ANYBODY that I've ever heard! Only can listen to a little at a time, since I have to stop and attempt to control the laughter.
Jim Volkman has been doing the best Harry since we were in the 6th grade together. Was great at 11 years old as well. He does a GREAT Jack Brickhouse, Steve Stone, Lou Boudreau and Vince Lloyd. Keep it going Jimmy.
Best Harry impression I've ever seen - and I always loved John Camponera's version, but this is even better. He's got ALL his mannerisms, plus speech style down to a pat. Well done!
You're exactly right, on both counts. Ferrell should be embarrassed. Volkman should be in the Hall of Fame, if only they allowed impressionists into the Ford Frick wing for broadcasters, lol.
I agree that this guy does it better due to being closer in age and looking more like him but I, like many people, thought WF was pretty hilarious doing him.
Cubs win cubs win, holy cow, i never thought i would live to see the cubs win the world series in 2016, and i was right as i passed away in 1998 ha ha ha. so long everybody
I remember him saying, "That burns my forehead and it frosts my ass!!!" The first time I heard Volkman was the morning (on Jonny B's show) after Harry was inducted into the broadcasters hall of fame and the bit was that they'd been up all night. The impression was so good that I took it hook line and sinker....
Of all the Harry Caray impressions I have heard, from Will Ferrell to John Campanero to even Ryan Dempster, NONE of them compares to Jim Volkman. He's got his voice down PERFECTLY!
Holy Cow, what a team Andy Rizzo ,Lane Bryant, Brent Zobrist, Addison Avenue, Georgie Solar, Jon Voight Lester, Aramis Champman, just to name a few says Harry.
Any of Jim's stories from WFRT Fort Wayne were funny. Whenever he had his mom & dad on the show it was absolutely hilarious. whatever happened to Wang & baby Luger?
Volkman's Harry is perfect, and I love it when he refers to Jack Buck, and says, Remember the place by the Gateway Arch, hahahaha... which is probably a reference to the strip clubs just across the river from STL in Southern Illinois. How many times did Harry frequent those lovely establishments back in the day, when with the Cardinals?
What's really sad is that young people always "imitate" Harry by trying to replicate Will Ferrell's version of him. And, it's not even close. Jim sounds just like him.
And last but not least the skipper super bowl champ and now world series champion. The great manager and coach of course i'm refering to John Maddon. Holy Cow, here's a pitch on the way, wheww he had a rip.
This is the BEST impression of Harry EVER! way better that will ferrel cause this actually sounds like him, i mean ferrels is good but this is amazing!
Thank you, thank you, thank you... So tiring hearing Ferrell and Campenera doing their very lame impersonations. Volkman sounds so much like him, the lip-smacking, the slight stutter, the coughing, the rambling... There will never be another Harry, and probably never be a better impersonation.
Hello again everybody, it's a beautiful day for baseball, ha ha ha ,you know who aways does a good impersonation of me ha ha ha, former cubs pitcher Dan Ryan Dumpster, Holy cow.
I was a teen in this glorious heyday of Chicago radio.
Johnny B & Buzz then handoff to Kevin Matthews (sprinkle some Bruce Wolf in there), into Steve Dahl and Garry Meier.
We had it good boys. We had it Really good.
Coppock on Sports in the evening was good too. WLUP AM 1000 probably had to be my all time favorite radio station.

Totally. And don’t forget Jimmy Shorts :)
Jim Volkman is THE BEST harry carry impersonator HANDS DOWN!
Volkman's Harry is equal to Caliendo's Madden. Right on the mark. Best I've ever heard.
God do I miss the Loop line-up of Johnny B, Kevin Matthews and Steve and Garry.
Jim Volkman is the best, period!!!
THIS IS THE BEST HARRY CARAY IMPRESSION I HAVE EVER SEEN!!
I used to listen to this guy on the radio 20 years ago and this still makes me lmao. Kevin Mathews is one of the funniest people on earth!!!!!!!!!!!
Man I miss Kevin Mathews' show.
This is the best Harry Caray Impression hands down..even better than mine.I bow to you.
Had a gym teacher named Jim Short. He called himself Jim shorts. Gym teacher with a sense of humor. 1 in. Million shout out to Jim Shorts.👍
Jim Volkman's Harry Caray is excellent! I wish WGN would hire him to do the Cub games. I miss Harry.

Damn this brings back great memories of when I lived in Chicago in the 80's and 90's.
Harry used to cough like that on TV. man this is down to the tee!
Will Ferrell's Harry bit isn't even funny. Volkman's Harry on the other hand is the greatest impression of all time.
You mean the actor from The Miami Vice Movie? He impersonates Harry? I'll have to see that one (cough cough!).
Agreed, Volkman is the one true Harry impersonator. Will Ferrell doesn't come remotely close.
TOTALLY AGREE. JIM IS THE BEST
Will Ferrell doesn't hold a candle to this impression.
Danny Carlino - Amen... and sadly people that don't know Harry think that Will's impression is the "best".
Yes, and Ryan Dempster has the worst Harry impression I've ever seen.
This guy was so good that Harry had to go on the pre game Cubs broadcast and tell people it wasn't him.
Cubs win cubs win, holy cow, i never thought i would live to see the cubs win the world series in 2016, and i was right as i passed away in 1998 ha ha ha. so long everybody
Best Harry Impression bar none!
Please Kevin...Come back and share the old times with us
great impression, I want to see more!!!
Oh that brings back good memories
Of all the Harry Caray impressions I have heard, from Will Ferrell to John Campanero to even Ryan Dempster, NONE of them compares to Jim Volkman. He's got his voice down PERFECTLY!
Holy Cow, what a team Andy Rizzo ,Lane Bryant, Brent Zobrist, Addison Avenue, Georgie Solar, Jon Voight Lester, Aramis Champman, just to name a few says Harry.
Does this guy do Harry Caray impression any more ? he without doubt -IS- THE best ever. Period !
Oh my god! My Brother-in-law got me HOOKED on Kevin Mathews and Jim Shorts about this time when they were one AM1000
Memories funny as all hell THANKS FOR SHARING!!
Any of Jim's stories from WFRT Fort Wayne were funny.
Whenever he had his mom & dad on the show it was absolutely hilarious.
whatever happened to Wang & baby Luger?
Great hard-hitting questions too from Jimmy Shorts: "Should a baseball player go out and hurt a fan?" LMAO... He's a freaky dude.
We're here at the Polo Grounds...
Perfect. Didn't know where he was but was rarin' to go!
That's my Harry.
Im on my couch crying watching this.
When I close my eyes and listen to this, I think of WSNS and WGN on all over again. Best Harry impersonation
@boduke70 Jim is Harry's son and the brother of former B-96 morning guy Ed Volkman.
Whata gooped up on goop!!! I loved it when Kev and Jimmy did commercials for "Fudge Packers" and Dickens Cider.
Volkman is spot on.
you know he didn't have great offensive season this year but right fielder and former chicago bear ironhead heyward was great defensively.
And last but not least the skipper super bowl champ and now world series champion. The great manager and coach of course i'm refering to John Maddon. Holy Cow, here's a pitch on the way, wheww he had a rip.
After Harry passed, they used the Heaven Line for further reports from beyond the veil.
This is the BEST impression of Harry EVER! way better that will ferrel cause this actually sounds like him, i mean ferrels is good but this is amazing!
Wow 😮
oh boy ,the 2016 world champions network formerly 1908 world champions network. HOLY COW!
This is great sounds just like him! OMFG better then anyone else period!
This Hass to be the same guy that Jonathan Brandmeier uses for his Harry Carey impersonation
we used to watch this show every day. why come i can't find anything on imdb about the show?
Thank you, thank you, thank you...
So tiring hearing Ferrell and Campenera doing their very lame impersonations. Volkman sounds so much like him, the lip-smacking, the slight stutter, the coughing, the rambling...
There will never be another Harry, and probably never be a better impersonation.
Albert Belle LOVES this video!
Bill Hicks understood the reference.
I LOVE YOU FOR POSTING THIS!!!!!! LOLOLOL!!!!
Will Ferrell should bow down to Volkman!
I used to listen to Kevin Matthews when he was in Grand Rapids BEFORE Chicago.
ITS THE MLB SLUGFEST GUY.
This is the funniest thing I've ever seen
This is so fucking funny!
Man, dead on!!!!! Hilarious!!!
"What are you talking about!!?? Who the heck do you think you are??? This is the year 52....We're hear at the polo grounds "
For sure. John Campanera is good too but Jim gets Harry down 110% percent
Hello again everybody, it's a beautiful day for baseball, ha ha ha ,you know who aways does a good impersonation of me ha ha ha, former cubs pitcher Dan Ryan Dumpster, Holy cow.
Volkman did Harry better than Harry.
much better impersonation than that AT&T guy!
@apatheticempathy He occasionally appears at Zanies. I think he's there this Wednesday.
Riggght IT'S GUT-CHECK TIME!!!
Eating Teeth For The Blackhawks at 3 Today!!!
Harry should a player ever hurt a fan? LOL! Rigggghhhhht!
Will Ferrell is shit compared to Volkman…nailed it 💯
@garylobo3 Caponara sucked, but Volkman's Harry was almost perfect.
it's the best Harry impression, but you need good jokes.. Caponera and Farrell have him beat on that
Go to sleep dad.
Fake Harry-" Hey there honey what a beautiful day for baseball, but I gotta ask you, have you ever bitten into a Ballpark Wiener"?😅
slugfest?
Sports, you bet!
