I use to shoot 338 lapua, I fell off my chair when i heard 338 belt fed. I just felt US national debt doubling.

I thought the 6.8 caliber was 6.8 SPC (in order to fit into an AR-15 mag), this 6.8 fits into a 7.62*51 mag. This will be a true upgrade of power.

Beautiful firearms with seemingly amazing design to improve on the models they're geared to replace. Would be a shame if Sig doesn't win the competition.

The MG-338 and MG-6.8 both have a recoil reduction system but for some reason they decited not to impliment it into the MCX-SPEAR. Seems like a missed opportunity to me.

Them achieving less recoil than the M240B a medium machine gun shooting 338 is insane.
That barrel swap out is pretty badass
Love all the upgraded features of this MG as well as the caliber upgrade. Also thrilled that we are getting the 6.8mm and getting rid of that anemic .556 Poodleshooter that should have NEVER been adopted as our military round. Yes I speak from personal experience so don’t even bother. As a uniformed American fighting Man or Woman the word “recoil” in a negative sense shouldn’t even exist in your Language!
I am slightly worried that the 6.8barrelburner is a great performer, but it will still weigh more than the tried and trusted 5.56 that is almost exclusively used for suppressive fire. We get less than 10 enemies killed per million rounds fired. And i just find it hard to believe that carrying heavier or less ammo will make the situation any better, let alone the material wear. The accuracy and power is great - if you replace barrels all 1000 shots.
It's not like any one of the 10 killed desert people described above was using body armor that we could've defeated in the first place, and with new armor technologies this will never be able to defeat any new level 4 plates to 600m. Just check SafeLife Defense, we have light ceramic+polyethylene lvl4 plates that will eat any 6.8mm ammo for breakfast, and even flexible level 3 armor (updated DragonSkin).
The only problems I have with the Sig NGSW R submission is the lack of weight reduction, and the fact that US troops are sacrificing a 1/3 of ammunition for more penetration abilities. Other than that, it's a well rounded, great entry!

I understand the sentiment for the argument about form factor and time to train on the new system...but... it’s pretty hard and infrequent that the army gets new weapons. Give the troops the best guns available for the future

They talk about the MG338 being lighter than a 240 but as soon as you add a box of 338 Norma mag to it, it’s way heavier than a loaded 240.
I hope these hybrid cases are magnetic on the percussion cap end, would make range clean up much faster!

The MG-6.8 and the MCX-Spear are not using the 6.8spc but a 6.8X51which is closer to the .270-308 wildcat
It's gonna end up just like the XM8 as highly collectable items that failed the trials! Not because it's a bad weapon system it's usually politics.
Politics are a factor, but to be fair the XM8 was just a G36 with a crappy rail attachment system

I hope the metallurgy of the barrels has kept up with the ammunition advancements. Taking 6.5 creedmoor as an example, throat wear on that barrel occurs at HALF the barrel life of the .308 rate. I can only imagine how hot the other, heavier calibers run, and I know for the next gen testing the Army requested performance tests @ +20% standard pressure. 5,000 shots barrel life vs 10,000 shots barrel life is BIG DIFFERENCE...I imagine it matters a lot less when you're talking about a cone of fire or volume of fire [[ I mean in regards to accurate shot placement ]], but still...for budget reasons alone. A lot of barrel changes.

8:58 Anyone else notice there is only one 6.5 Creedmoor round of the five for the 6.5 Creedmoor display? The first four are 6.8 and the last on the right is the 6.5. I wonder why they did that.

Lots of nooks and crannies. Cleaning after a mud tour will be a treat.
The MMG for mounted use seems fine but the MG 6.8 at 12lbs I don't like when a Fightlite MCR is 9.45lbs unloaded. If we enter a new war with a conventional military, we will have operate within the enemy's effective range for all its weapons systems while contending with electric warfare. Moblity will be key and having an Fightlite MCR seems better decreasing weight even by 3lbs and having a LMG upper compatibility with mil-spec AR-15 lowers will make a defference.
This machine gun shoots .338 norma magnum out of a BELT. That's a caliber normally used for sniper rifles

I don’t believe the 6.8 carbine will be a complete replacement. It will likely be used like the SR25. You can’t beat the 556 for use in 0-600 dependent on set up of course. It’s the same reason they didn’t go thru with the 6.8 SPC. Harder to control and heavier Ammo.

Yes, it does. But it's nice to see some real advancement on ammunition technology. Not slight bullet design change or moding existing calibers to fire different size bullet.
That's one sexy Machine Gun! Really hope our military adopts it, would love to have 6.8 ammo price go down, not to mention we reach out and touch the enemy at a much further distance than the 308 can.

It's piston. I personnally don't like the side-charger, but I guess it's better for when you're prone.

Replace the 240? I don’t know dude, the 240 is a good MG. The 240 has 3 gas settings too, but it weighs 27.6 pounds. At what cal. Though? Cool weapon system. Good video.
