  • Watch an exclusive interview with iconic Liverpool band The Farm guitarist Keith Mullin and vocalist Peter Hooton in the Indulgence Suite at The Shankly Hotel, as they reveal the inspiration behind the emotional lyrics of All Together Now.
The Farm, first formed in early 1983, rose to success during the 1990s with releases that bridged the gap between classic pop-rock and late-80s dance music. Originally called The Excitements, they switched to The Farm when Peter Hooton joined as lead vocals. Their debut album Spartacus reached number one in the UK Albums Chart in March 1991.
Famous for hits including Groovy Train and All Together Now, The Farm are never ones to shy away from strong political and social messages: the band were central to the release of track The Fields of Anfield Road (commemorating the Hillsborough disaster), joined forces with other artists to play at the Don’t Buy The Sun gig in Liverpool and performed at The Labour Party rally prior to the 2017 UK general election.
Today, the band comprises of six musicians: Peter Hooton, Steve Grimes, Carl Hunter, Roy Boulter, Keith Mullin and Ben Leach.
All Together Now was released on 26 November 1990 and peaked at #4 on the UK Singles Chart and #7 on the US billboard Modern Rock tracks chart. Produced by Graham McPherson (better known as Suggs, the found member of the band Madness), the song links themes of socialism, brotherhood and football. It was inspired by the Christmas Day Truce in World War I, where soldiers laid down their weapons and met in no-mans-land to play football.
Since its release, ‘All Together Now’ has been used numerous times by football team across the country, as well as by the Labour Party for their 2017 General Election Campaign.
